Re: Victor Reader Stream Upgrade

2014-02-15 Thread Dane Trethowan
So can the Victor Reader Stream handle flash streams like most other portable
Internet Radio devices can?

If it can then I'll certainly look at buying one.

One thing than can be said about the new Victor Reader Stream is that it has a
far better speaker than the older model but then again, what doesn't!

I'm looking at Daisy players at the moment, the Plextalk Pocket looks a very
attractive option still even though the processor isn't as good as that found
in the Stream, dealers tell me that still the firmware is far better.

The Milestone is also something I'm considering, Bluetooth connectivity is very
appealing.

The upgrade can be installed using the update facility of the VRS or can be

If you're looking at the Plextalk I'd be looking at the Linio Pocket has 8GB

the most accessible and best quality recorder. The New Stream has the

Ah now that's impressive but not at all surprising, I'm a fan of Sense products
and I own a Voice Sense which - even though is nearly 6 years old - is still
amazing in what it can do Audio wise and just about everything else type wise
smile, using it in conjunction with my Mac now to write this eMail, using the

Anyway thanks for bringing us up to speed with what Hims Inc are up to, will be
worth waiting a little longer then.

Good point! certainly you wouldn't want one of the earlier models.

My only explanation is that sometimes you need more than one device at your
disposal, its a bit like the iPhone and the iPod, you want to play music, read
books or whatever on your iPod but keep the battery charged on your iPhone for
those important calls, in other words horses for courses smile, point well
taken all the same and yes, iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S4 phones etc do make the
Victor Reader Stream seem very fossilised indeed!

hello I am a blind pc user, I own a blue yetti pro, I use it on the
stand
that it came with, and it is a very good mic. my problem is that I
have a
tower under my pc, with a five inch fan that is on top of the pc and
it
blows air up. when my mic is on I hear the fan of the tower, but that
is not

the problem.
like I said because my tower is under my desk and the mic sits on top
of the
desk I hear a humming coming from my desk, I think it's the fan that
is
blowing under the desk. now when I take the mic off the desk the
humming
goes away, so I think that the humming is coming from air hitting
bottom of
desk. now I bought a shock mount, but the hummming is still there with
the
shock mount. and again once I lift the mic off the desk the humming
goes

away.
is there anything I could do for this. some one suggested a boom arm,
but if
I get one will I have to take the mic off the stand to attach it to
boom

arm. any suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks so much.

also you may wish to change patterns, or if recording in stereo, from
the microphone, the best solution is isolation from the hum source, and
I do mean vibration, since the Yetti seems to be prone to it. I truly
do love mine! One other thing is to record at a lower volume level and
see if that cuts down on acoustic hum as well, or use a 120Hz filter in
your audio software. I made one in Sound Forge, copying the data from
the 60Hz one and changing the frequencies to 120Hz. I did that for 50Hz
also for European and Canadian recordings which have hum.

2014-02-15 Thread Pat Seed

Hi Angel and Everyone,
I was waiting to see if someone would bring this up. Yes, you will still get
a hum because the boom arm is attached to the desk.
And, yes, I am hoping, if you want to use a boom, that there is one
specifically for the Blue Yeti. It is a Heavy and Expensive Mic, and I,
myself, would not use a boom. I would sit it, as has been previously
suggested, on a piece of foam. Now, if you do not have foam, you might be
able to use a soft covered Braille book instead.

I also would not detach the Yeti from the desk stand. The desk stand is
quite sturdy, and meant to hold this Expensive Professional Mic.

I hope that this helps.
Blessings and All the Very Best,
Pat

If I hit enter on any link you send me (such as the one below) the
mp3 starts playing. I want to save it instead of having it play.
Hitting the context key or shift-F10 in my email client doesn't bring
up a save option. Any ideas please?

If you put the characters ?dl=1 on the end of a link containing an .mp3, you
will be asked do you want to save or open the file?

Dane,

Putting the characters of question mark followed by the letters d and l then
an equals sign and the digit 1 works for any system with which I have been
acquainted, suggest in future, when you send DropBox links remember to add
these characters to the end of the link.

Thanks for the tip about adding the letters to the end of the file.
However did you learn this?
By the way, we had a foot of snow two weeks ago, followed by six
inches a few days later, followed by a foot a few days later and then
24 inches three days ago. I don't know what that is in meters.
Believe me when I say we are having trouble finding places to stack
it when shoveling.

All the best during flooding. I have been listening to the BBC and so
have heard about your water woes.

Okay well that's not too bad then if Humanware are using a provider, I
don't know what the provider is for Apple's iTunes/Apple TV Radio
service, I know that Denon and Panasonic use vTunes and Sangean use
something called Wifi Radio.

So can the Victor Reader Stream handle flash streams like most other
portable Internet Radio devices can?

If it can then I'll certainly look at buying one.

hi:
humanware uses ootunes.

One thing than can be said about the new Victor Reader Stream is that it
has a far better speaker than the older model but then again, what
doesn't!

I'm looking at Daisy players at the moment, the Plextalk Pocket looks a
very attractive option still even though the processor isn't as good as
that found in the Stream, dealers tell me that still the firmware is far
better.

The Milestone is also something I'm considering, Bluetooth connectivity
is very appealing.
