re cdex170 beta 2

2014-07-10 Thread brian parker
Hi alexandra, as you see from the subject line, it is 170 beta2. that
is the latest version i have. what happens if i try to convert an ogg
file is this. it appears to do the conversion, and if i go to where
the converted file should be, it is there. it will tell me the size
of the converted file in bytes. if i then open it in foobar, it will
show me at the bottom of the xcreen come up one with 8, what rate the
conversion was done at, whether the file is in mono or stereo, and
the length of the file in hours and minutes. there is one problem,
although foobar says it has it loaded, it won't play it. i then
loaded the file in to soundforge7. it also acknowledged that it had
it loaded, would give me the details in rate and length of the file,
but wouldn't play it. my friend is still using 151, and he says it
will still convert ogg to mp3. i had this programme myself, but when
later versions came out, i moved to them, assuming that they would do
everything that 151 would do. at present i have versions 160 and 170
beta2 on this machine. 160 behaves the same as 170 with regard to ogg
files conversions. if you remember alexandra, i tried to reinstall
151 again, and you helped me with the ini file. i failed to do that,
as 151 can't find the directory where i have put the files to
convert. well, there it is, all of it. best wishes, brian.

Pioneer XW-SMC4 Full Media Center System

2014-07-10 Thread Dane Trethowan
The system described here is both the most complete and flexible Media Center
I've used.

I'll be writing a review on the system shortly as I have some exploring to do
to get access to some of the features so here's a summary of what I've found
thus far.

The system is a stereo unit which looks much like a Boombox but thinner.

Sound is very good with the unit offering Digital Amplifiers at 20 Watts RMS
for each channel.

Connectivity options would seem endless when you look at what's available on
the system.

• Bluetooth Connectivity
• AirPlay and DLNA compatible
• USB port which will handle files in most audio formats including FLAC, AAC,
MP3 etc.
• Line-In jack
•Internet radio
• FM Tuner
• Music Server
• Compatible with Pioneer Remote Controller Apps for IOS and Android
•Able to handle music services such as Spotify and Pandora
•Built-in iPhone dock

Its unfortunate that Pioneer Didn't include DAB+ but perhaps its easier to
market something like this world wide without DAB+.

The XW-SMC4 can be connected to your Network either using Wi-Fi or LAN,
unfortunately I'm going to require a little sighted assistance to set up the
Wi-Fi connection but I was able to connect to the network using the LAN port
and update the firmware without any issues, the system has a HTML Web Interface.

I'll keep you all informed of my progress

Re: Review: Belkin Bluetooth HD Music Receiver Review:Best design in Digital function - Portable HiFi

2014-07-10 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I received this in the post this morning, took me all of ten seconds to install
the device.

There was nothing special regarding the pairing between the device and my other
equipment, as soon as I turned the unit on and set my Bluetooth equipment to
search for unpaired devices the Belkin box came up.

I'm listening to Music from the iPhone through the Belkin which is connected to
the Rotel DAC and it sounds very good.

Interesting to note that - when using Voiceover - there's very little delay
between the action performed and when Voiceover speaks or gives feedback, one
of the best performing Bluetooth devices I've used in this regard.

You can have multiple effects processing sound at one time so you can hear the
end effect. Of course, this could
result in a log of processing and a computer may have trouble with processing
it all in real time.

Hi Brian,
What beta version are you talking about? There are different ones. I haven't
checked yet, but I'm sure you will still be able to convert ogg files.

I'll install it next week and tell you all about it.

Take care,

Hi. CDEX will rip to Wave or rip to MP3. It will convert from mp3 to wave
and wave to mp3. It will also record and save as mp3 or Wave but it doesn't
do Og files for any of that, I'm using 1.51. You will need to use Switch or
Gold Wave for converting Og files. Walter.

Re: Cool Edit

2014-07-10 Thread Steve Jacobson
Peter,

CoolEdit was purchased by Adobe and became Adobe Audition. Adobe Audition
through version 1.5 was pretty much
unchanged from the original CoolEdit. Audition 2.0 changed how data was
displayed on the screen and became much
less accessible. Adobe did build in some other means of getting the
information but it requires more scripting to
get at it, and in my observation doesn't seem quite as complete but I have not
looked at all of this in a while. I
had some difficulty installing Audition 1.0 on a Windows 7 64-bit computer, and
have not devoted the time to
determining how accessible the most recent version of Audition is with the
propper scripts or app under Window-eyes.
It would be very helpful if someone has really exercised the latest version of
Audition to know where the gaps might
be as I did like CoolEdit and Audition.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

RE: Cool Edit

2014-07-10 Thread Robert Nelson

Which probably tells us that 3CR is a nickel and dime operation and they may
still be using 4 8 6 machines.

Cool Edit became Adobe Audition which a lot of broadcasters found too
inconvenient. A lot of stations moved to using Macs or moved to Audacity
under Windows because of its multi-tracking and range of plug ins.

A lot of broadcasters are now using I Pads for studio automation and audio
production. One IOS program which seems to be favoured by broadcasters and
voice over artists is TwistedWave which, surprisingly, is much more
accessible than Garage Band or some of the other audio editors under IOS.

Hi , I just installed and used CDEX.
I fooled with about two hours because the program would not see my
external disk drive.

I have since ripped two cd's and it was slow but they got done.

Another thing is , the program does not close corectly, and there are
messages from microsoft warning you about trouble.

It said something about compatibility.

One good thing about the program, is that it creates a playlist,k if you
want.

Hope you have good luck with it.

CDEx never used GraceNote.
You have to install Player.exe to get information from GraceNote that you
can also export to CDEx.
It is all described here:
The url for information and download is:
