I haven't played with FaceTime for quite some time so I wasn't aware of the some of the settings available. One of great interest is the output audio selection either automatic, speaker or Headset. I've just been chatting to someone on FaceTime using my Yamaha MXP100 Heads Free music system, as its a Bluetooth 4 device the quality of audio between us was very good indeed! as was the noise cancellation effect, I was sitting in my kitchen with my fridge doing its job and the person I was chatting to had alarms going ooff, phones ringing and God knwos what else happening, I did hear the odd click as the noise cancellation system did its thing but apart from that the call was dead silent apart from the conversation being conducted, pure magic. I've not played with Skype for IOS but do intend to in the coming days as I'm interested to see whether Skype will handle such devices as the Yamaha MPX100 as well as FaceTime obviously does,. And finally, both of us in our chat were using hands free devices, me the aforementioned Yamaha device and the other party used their iPHone in Hands free mode, we both commented just how clear the whole thing was and how we wouldn't have known that we were both using hands free systems. RE: Plantronics Voyager Pro HD Headset Was FaceTime On Your Audio Device
It's a mono headset and is quite large compared to many others. The electronics of the headset are in the part that curves around the top of your ear. The speaker does not go in the ear but rather sits over your ear canal with a boom mic that swivels up and down. There are 3 buttons placed on the part that curves over the top of your ear, power, and volume up and down. The buttons serve double functions. The power button when pushed while the headset is on will give you battery status. The volume up and down, when pressed down both at the same time will pause and play audio. On the part that sits over your ear there's another button that is used for phone call related functions like answer/end call and redial. If pressed and held, will start your voice control which would be Siri in my case. It charges via micro usb. There is a separate belt case available for it on Amazon which I use all the time. The headset fits very nicely and very convenient having on hand right on your belt. I believe the belt case is around $15 or so, maybe a little less. Like I said, the incoming audio is excellent for what it is. I've made voice mail recordings with it to listen back myself and the out going audio sounds very very good, full bodied and clean. Well, the minimum compression you can do with mp3 is probably 320 kbps, which is still about 4 to 1, unless some encoders can do a higher bit rate than that. - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2014 2:21 PM Subject: FLAC Files was Time To Purchase FLAC? Re: FLAC Files was Time To Purchase FLAC?
sorry, the minimum compression rate of MP3 I've seen is 32K, maximum I think you meant to say is 320K. With FLAC you can control the compression rate but that doesn't make any difference in audio quality, it just takes longer to compress the file the smaller it is and - even then - you don't make much of a difference in the actual file size, probably 1 or 2 meg per track say so - given all that - its not worth bothering about. That's actually a very good point. I haven't used my Voyager Pro HD since I upgraded to IOS 8.x. Having said that, I am noticing John's issue on other BT devices using BT 2.1 or less on IOS 8.x. I would try to find a headset that supports BT 3.0 or even better 4.0 if any exist. The BT devices I have using BT 4.0 (mostly speakers) connect so much faster and sound better than the older ones using 2.1 or 2.0.
