I’ve never bothered with the user manual for Airfoil - whether it be Windows or
Mac - and there are more than likely things I’ve missed, I just messed about
with Airfoil until I got the product to do what I’ve wanted it to do.

I guess you can ask questions so I and others may answer.

Re: Its Goodbye To An Old And Faithful Product

2016-07-14 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ah the old Logitech Transporter, they’re worth a mint now on eBay.

I appreciate the sound of Sonos products but always refrained from buying any
of their line for many of the reasons you mentioned, the closed nature of the
product which doesn’t suit me.

I’m also at a loss - like you - to understand why Sonos products don’t play HD
Audio and so on, you’re paying enough for them in my view.

The only hope you’ve got of using AirPlay with a Sons system is to used its
line-in - assuming it has one of course as many Sonos models don’t - and
connect an Airport Express or something similar to that.

A lot of systems are dropping AirPlay support now, the Bose Soundtouch systems
have dropped AirPlay in favour of Bluetooth and in a way that makes perfect
sense whilst in other ways its just crazy, you’ve got the Wi-Fi connectivity
already established, the device is connected to the Network so why not leave
AirPlay there along with Bluetooth? Ah well, gave up long ago trying to work
out the reasoning behind some company’s and the way they think.

I have to admit a similar puzzle has me wondering when it comes to the Bowers
And Wilkins Speaker systems such as the Z2, A5 and A7 devices, they support
AirPlay and that’s nice but why not DLNA as well? DLNA Apps pick the Bowers And
Wilkins speaker systems up but won’t play to them so I suspect DLNA support
could be easily added via a firmware upgrade.

Hi!

Someone was after a microphone they could use with their iPhone? Well I found
this in the Australian Apple Store which may be the type of microphone that
person was looking for.

Hello Dane
I did the upgrade and now I am just wondering: do you perhaps have a user
manual saved as one file. I notice that the manual on the site consists of many
links, so it would be nice to have a .txt or .docx file.

New versions of Airfoil have been released for Mac and Windows, discover what
this amazing audio streaming product can do.

I use both Airfoil on Windows and Mac, accessibility on the Windows PC is okay,
you can tab through the buttons and get to the menu system.

Hi Dane
I know where you're coming from. A couple of weeks ago I had to disconnect my
Logitec Transporter from my system as it stopped working. It's over ten years
old so owes me nothing even though I paid a thousand quid for it at the time.
It's the best sounding streaming player I've ever had. It probably used the
same HTML interface as the one you used with your Boom and of course it worked
with an iPhone app called Ipeng which I got following a recommendation from
yourself.

I've just replaced it with a much cheaper Sonos Connect. It sounds much better
than I expected but it can't play HD audio so I've got a small collection of
albums I'll actually have to downs ample. Still, the app is very accessible and
it gives me access to my Apple Music and Amazon Prime and audio purchases as
well as internet radio. I haven't actually scanned my own home collection onto
it yet so we'll see.

Before that I got a Sonos Player 1 for my bedroom and was so impressed I got
a second one to make up a stereo pair. The one big disadvantage with the Sonos
range though is it doesn't do AirPlay or even Bluetooth. That means I can't use
some of my iPhone audio apps with it. For instance, I have a great audio
Relaxation app that can't be played over it.

Because it's a multi-room system the temptation is to keep adding to it but I'd
like to see the above drawbacks addressed before wading further into the water.
It does sound pretty damn good though, especially for the money. That's not to
say it's cheap, but it's certainly not the most expensive system of it's type.
