So then all you need to do then is use your powers of logic. As you suggested, all tracks are checked by default, so pressing space on each track will deselect it, Yes! Hi Dane I fully respect your point of view, but I think removing a person from a list is a very harsh thing to do, and there is a significant risc that a blind person easely get trapped in the fact that when he get some power he will for many reasons use it more agressevely then it actually requires. there for I hope the moderator will try to get into a dialog with the person about re subscribing to the list after a period of time he decides. Hi, Yes correct. Windows xp Home edition supports up to 2 cpu kernelss. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: Josh [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, I just found a very interesting website and thought I'd pass it on as it can or since it's sapi5, this software, can be used with window-eyes and or jaws. Ok. I'll explain a little first. Suppose you wanted to add your own voice to the library or portfoleo of voices or voice fonts in the ATNT natural voices speech synthesizer. Well you'd have to pay thousands of dollars. But thanks to the website: http://www.asel.udel.edu/speech/ModelTalker.html you can now do it, at least temporarily, for free! The speech synthesizer is called model talker. And you can create new voices with it by using your very own voice, a microphone, and your very own computer. There's good documentation with it that explains what to read and how to read it. If you spend the time. You can make a voice that sounds as good or better than the cepstral voices, or, you can create a voice that sounds as bad or a little worse than microsoft text to speech mary mike and sam voices. But with a little effort. Window-eyes and jaws, since this speech is sapi5 compatible. window-eyes and jaws can now talk in your own voice! or whose-ever voice you decide to record and turn into a voice font. Enjoy and have fun creating voices. I myself signed up to their mailing list and to be a beta tester of upcoming versions of the software. Can anyone help me? (how do you adjust the equilizer and how do I know what I'm adjusting? Actually this is a very good thing for 2 reasons. Firstly and most importantly, it shows that the program is under very active development. This is good news because if something goes wrong, you can write to the developer and you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting a reply. Secondly, lots of people, including Steve who likes and uses the program, just wants everybody to know that a new version is available. The only down side to all of this is that when a new version comes out, it's a common practice for people to freak out and worry that the program will no longer work with their screenreader. Sometimes that happens, and sometimes the reverse is true and the program works even better. I believe Steve uses Betanews.com, which allows you to have what they call a watch list of your favorite programs. Every time a new version of a particular program comes out, you are sent an e-mail about it. That's what I believe Steve sends to the list. If I'm incorrect in any way I'm sure Steve will pop in and correct me. From my point of view, if you're willing to invest in the tool that gets the job done most efficiently, Sound Forge is so far ahead that Goldwave isn't even worth your consideration. I say this because the reason Sound Forge became the leading single track editor in the blind community is because of the way in which it embraces standard Windows navigation and selection methods. So if you're a competent user of word processors like MS word, and you understand how to select text in regular Windows applications, your learning curve with Sound Forge is minimised hugely. I would put Studio Recorder way ahead of Goldwave and in some respects better than Sound Forge for certain tasks. For example, the sound don sound feature in the latest Studio Recorder is incredibly easy to use, yet powerful. It also attempts where possible to adhere to Windows standards. It's special accessibility features make it worthy of serious consideration, particularly if you don't require lots of special affects. For those constrained by limited time, selecting and manipulating sound in Sound Forge or Studio Recorder is vastly more efficient than Goldwave is. If money is a consideration, I would still recommend Sound Forge's cut down version because of the superior adherence to Windows conventions, although Goldwave is definitely more feature rich than this version of Sound Forge. Re: External Sound Cards
HI, What you can do is to get an spdif converter for your pc, typically just a sound card with this feature. Then you can have a physical amplifier and connect this to your pc. Then you make your converting from digital to analog outside the computer and should there by be able to reduce noise and such. If you just mean weather or not there is a sound card with a very powerfull output I don't think so. I'm asking because I need to upgrade both my computer and my hi-fi shortly and I was thinking of combining both, but only if I can get really good quality high wattage sound. Hi, Ok maybe this is a bigger problem in region 1 then here in region 2. I can just report that I don't have any problems so far with the shrink. Best regards Brian - Original Message - From: Raul A. That is the only reason why DVD Shrink will lose popularity if it is not kept up to date by the author. I'm not talking about features here. I'm talking about decrypting newer DVD media which comes out like some of 2006 release movies. Try the movie Stealth which was released in 2005. You cannot decrypt that and shrink it with DVD Shrink yet you can decrypt it fine with AnyDVD. Hi, What you must do is you have to select the advance box under options. Then in the play back and record dialog you get an advance bottun you can activate. Then you get access to the tone controls. I'm beginning to think that perhaps this card is on the cheapper side of things and won't allow me the ability to change those settings. It could be as well a conflict with the sound blaster software and drivers which are also installed. Re: Sound Forge 8.0d is now Available
Hi, Nice update! Can anybody confirm, if Sound forge still will work with Snowman's scripts after you've updated to 8.0D? Best regards Brian - Original Message - From: Steve Pattison [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, April 07, 2006 2:23 PM Subject: Sound Forge 8.0d is now Available Sound Forge 8.0d is now available. I have listed the changes in this version as well as those in version 8.0c because I don't think they have been posted to this list previously. Here are the changes for both versions: Notable fixes/changes in version 8.0d Support has been added for opening and rendering ATRAC3T, ATRAC3plusT, and ATRAC Advanced LosslessT files. A bug has been fixed that could cause Sound Forge to crash when bypassing certain plug-ins using automation envelopes. A bug has been fixed that could cause Sound Forge to crash when starting the Batch Converter script if the current file had not yet been saved. A bug has been fixed that could cause Sound Forge to crash when running scripts that use markers in a media file and attempt to close the media file via the script. A bug has been fixed that could prevent you from dragging regions from the Regions List window to the workspace or to an empty data window. A bug has been fixed that could cause Sound Forge to freeze when starting playback on some systems. Improvements have been made to resolve issues with certain VST effects. An issue has been fixed that could cause some VST effects to unexpectedly revert to their default settings. A bug has been fixed that caused preset labels in the Mix, Crossfade, and MIDI Trigger dialogs to display incorrect settings. A bug has been fixed that prevented arrow keys from drawing straight lines with the Pencil tool when holding the left mouse button. A bug has been fixed that caused recording to stop prematurely when recording 88.2 kHz audio. A bug has been fixed that prevented you from undoing sample-rate changes made via the status bar. A bug has been fixed that caused file lengths to be displayed incorrectly in the Explorer window. A bug has been fixed that could cause lengths to be displayed incorrectly in the Undo/Redo History window. A bug has been fixed that could cause Insert Silence to display incorrect time values in the Batch Converter. A bug has been fixed that caused the Post-roll setting from Preferences Previews to be ignored. Various issues with the Auto Trim/Crop function have been resolved. A bug has been fixed that caused the Markers to Regions command to fail if a selection existed in a file. Notable fixes/changes in version 8.0c A bug has been fixed that could cause ASIO devices to stop working after installing the Sound Forge 8.0b update. A bug that affected rendering and reading of large AIF files has been fixed: 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo AIF renders are now limited to approximately 03:22:53 of audio (536,870,909 samples); 24 bit, 96 kHz stereo renders are now limited to approximately 01:02:08 of audio (357,913,940 samples); the largest file that can be rendered as AIF is approximately 2GB in size. Sound Forge 8.0c will continue to load files created with previous releases that exceed these limits, though other applications may fail to load them. A bug has been fixed that could cause problems reading some VOX or IVC files. General improvements have been made to scripting and the Batch Converter script. When developing scripts, be sure to use the latest version of the scripting SDK. Hi, Oh what asus board does only have one available pci slot? Never mind. I think it's the way elloquenze is switching sample rate. You should really try moving your card to another slot. Set the new start of selected time to the time you just copied to your clipboard, and the finish time to the end of the file. Now just set your volume for the selected portion at the same level you faded down to in the previous step. I don't know if that's a street price or not, I think it's MSRP, actually, so it will probably end up being cheaper. I got my Edirol R-1 for that price, and this is supposed to be cheaper than the R1 since it's a more slim-line design with less bulk. As for the SD cards, check mwave or newegg for good prices. Mwave seems to have 2GB SD cards starting at around $115, 1GB starting at $48, and smaller cards for cheaper. I also think the mastering, which is missing on the R1, has so much potential that it's worth paying the extra money, and if you do as I said in a previous message, that extra $30USD will pay for itself. Yep. For example, the Edirol R1's first firmware revision only supported fat, and now it supports fat32 formatted CF cards, but you still have a 2GB limit on the wave format itself. So if you want to continuously record at uncompressed PCM, it'd have to be done with no wav header, which the R1 doesn't do. Otherwise, it'll have to be mp3. I have a 2GB card in mine, and I've been able to successfully fill up the card with one mp3 at 96KBPS, which recorded for just over 47 hours continuously. Sure, the quality wasn't so great, but that wasn't the point of the test. Re: Joint Stereo - what is it?
Hi, Joint stereo is only the next best, but it saves space and there by makes the file a bit smaller. Here are some definitions of what it is. . A specific coding mode in Layer II audio coding. In the joint stereo mode, the upper frequencies of a stereo signal are joined and coded as intensity stereo in order to conserve valuable bits and improve overall quality. www.sidetrips.com/support/glossary_a_l.asp . A method that takes advantage of the similarities between the left and right channels in an audio file so that it requires less data to compress it. (cp. dual channel) (more..) www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/glossary.html . Joint stereo, in audio engineering, is the technique of encoding stereo audio into a mid channel which is a full channel average of the combined left and right channels, with a side channel which has separation information on how to re-create two distinct stereo signals. This can aid compression for a large majority of music, and may be used in MP3, AAC and Ogg Vorbis audio encoding techniques. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_stereo Best regards Brian - Original Message - From: Gary Wood [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. Hi, This is some times the problem with the movies themselves. It's the design of the dvd that causes this problem. And to make it worse the film industry don't have a standadized way of designing these menus. Some times you have a play movie as the top option and that's good, but in other wierd situations they switch them so the default might be setup or maybe language or even something totally different. With the Sony Raul mentions, I'm wondering if, by pressing the forward button on the player (not using the remote) will this take you to the next episode and will the back button take you to the previous? While you may think this a silly question, I'm asking specifically because my daughters have DVD players and they use these complicated menus to go to a chosen episode and they tell me you have to use arrow keys on the menus to find episodes and not just hitting a forward or rewind button as you do with CD players. I know DVD's are formatted different from CD's, but we're hoping we can simply use a forward or backup button without having to use menus or a remote to go to different episodes, and so far the ones I've seen don't seem to allow this type of ease when changing to a new show on the DVD. Not really understanding how DVD's are formatted, didn't know if it was possible to simply forward and back up with the same ease you have with a CD player. I have a laptop (toshiba A65s126) running Windows XP Pro. For a rather long time, the option in recording control to have the +20 DB boost has been unavailable, as I can't get to advanced controls within the sndvol32 application. This is not specific to the onboard sound card, as this is the case for any external sound card I use on the laptop as well. I rarely ever use anything other than my dedicated AKM semi-conductors USB dongle for microphone input as it's much cleaner than the onboard sound or the creative USB interface I have, but it'd be nice to know, for future reference, how to get this back when it occurs. Is there a key in the registry that breaks it? What actually causes it, and how can it be fixed? Re: Good PC Speakers
Hi Gary, Oh interesting. In my opinion not all kind of stuff works well in surround sound. But movies and such do. Also professional sound cards do have a build in surround decoder. For gaming and such I have a nice set of Creative Inspiron 5700 speakers. But I still bring my music with me to the stereo, if I want to relax with some good music. But a good set of speakers stereo or surround and a good sound card may give you a great listening experience. Just remember that mmp3 music is not at all top of the world in quality, and this get more noticeable as better a lout speaker system you have. But there is a trend going on with brand new and much better audio formats especially for us, who like exelent quality. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, October 26, 2005 6:50 PM Subject: Re: Skype Version 1.4.0.84 is Now Available In answering this question, two important things should be looked at. First, the change in version number is minute, very, very small. You'll almost never see any major changes to the actual outward appearances of the program, and thus screen reader accessibility, with a change in version number so small. Also, the what's new section is a good indicator. In this case, none of the changes listed are interface changes, just internal fixes. These are two very strong indicators that if the previous version was screen-reader accessible, the current version will be as well. Just some thoughts. Hi John, Well I might just be a bit old then. But I really think I remember that Jeff has stated so in an earlier mail. Of course, in the case of software tools, the only way a blind person can gain access to the interface is via a screen reader. Loll. - Original Message - From: Peter Scanlon [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, October 24, 2005 4:21 AM Subject: Virtual weather man Televirtual unveils a Virtual TV Weatherman By Submitter: Televirtual Working in collaboration with Britain's top speech scientists and the BBC's weather graphic suppliers , Metra, Televirtual proudly announces the world's first synthetic broadcaster. Whilst many of today's small screen personalities are arguably artificial, advanced content pioneers Televirtual, have now produced one which is certifiably so. Televirtual's UK Media Lab has just given birth to METman , a virtual weather reporter/forecaster, whose entire performance is generated automatically from a few lines of text-based data issued as a meteorological summary, and accompanied by a weather map update. METman doesn't even need a script. In the final application , raw field-entry data, in the form of facts and figures will be fed into the system, which automatically draws from a lexicon of appropriate phrases, to produce a narrative description of events past, and those to come. This text is then fed into METvoice the first ever artificial voice or TTS (Text-to-Speech) engine, to be custom-built to broadcast standards. The human vocal model for METvoice was Televirtual boss and founder, Tim Child, a broadcaster and former TV newsman. Modern speech engines are created by recording up to 30 hours of dictated speech, but by capturing Tim's speaking patterns as well as words and phrases, Televirtual were able to 'fine-tune' the new engine to a performance level unheard of to date.. The new speech engine has further powerful features. Operating as part of Televirtual's award-winning RAP animation system, METvoice features a powerful XML-style mark up language stream, triggering lip-synch animations, and controlling and dictating the 3d animated METman' s moods, expressions, gestures, and screen positions. Whilst the new voice is still being improved upon, the early results are impressive. ' Unless you were aware or suspected it, you would not normally be able to detect METman's vocal performance as anything other than the real thing,' said Tim. Further 'broadcast' voices are now planned, and the breakthrough is by no means limited to weather forecasting. Gaming channels and Quiz TV variants could also employ the system to operate virtual presenters in virtual sets , at a fraction of the cost of conventional presentation methods. But the big market for such synthetic voice and character creation applications is probably in the Home of the near Future. Installed in domestic television set top boxes (STBs) , 3d ' announcers ' will be able to present a personalised information service tailored to individual requirements. Such 'homecasters ' would be able to advise on TV viewing schedules, read the news and weather on demand, and trawl the internet on request. In disability scenarios, they will be able to read incoming emails to the blind, and could 'sign' to the deaf or provide lip-readable augmented information to the hard of hearing, whilst the speech-impaired might use them to make phone calls. more details from www.televirtual.com ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Re: Jaws scripts for sound forge by the Snowman?
HI Gary, Thanks for answering. His page is dead, and it has been that way for quite some time, so he has probably gone out of business. It's very sad, if that's the case, because he wrote some very cool scripts for sound forge and other programs. I think you'll be able to find it there, as well as other interesting programs. Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: Brian Olesen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. Re: Easy CDDA Extractor 821
Hi, Well instead of grumbeling about it here, why don't you write to him and ask? Best regards Brian - Original Message - From: Jardata_Mailservices [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2005 5:28 PM Subject: Easy CDDA Extractor 821 Well! I can't for the life of me understand why the writer changed the check/unchecked notification feature at all. It use to work just fine and it did not do anything bad to the program so why bother with it. I purchased the program back in early 2000/20001 and that original version allowed you to just arrow up and down the list and it would let you know which track was checked or unchecked. In fact, there was an option in the settings area that asked you whether or not you wanted to use check boxes or not. With this checked to yes ensured you would have this data read or you could set things with checkboxes and know whether or not a track was selected or not. The layout acts the same, so why not put it back. I just can't understand why programmers feel they must tamper with things that work. There is absolutely nothing improved in the program by making this info ungettable. I would say to the programmer put it back and make the program better for us all.
