A CDA file is just a file on a cd. so you just take your mp3 files and burn
them onto a blank cd using a program like CD Burner XP which will work on
any windows PC from XP to the current.

Saving audio from flash

2015-11-08 Thread Dean Masters
There is a web site which lets you listen to demos of choir music. It uses
flash but not Youtube, etc.

I used to have a program that would intercept anything from flash but don't
have it any more and don't quite remember the name. It was a free program. I
think it is something like VS Download but I couldn't find anything when
doing a web search that still existed. It seems like the company made other
audio and video software.

Does anyone nkow the software I am talking about or can recommend another
accessible software that will do the same?

Thanks,

Hi my friends. Does any one here still use the Accessible Podcatcher from
www.webbie.org.uk ? Or have people moved on? Just
asked because either my PC's hard drive has errors on it already or it
causes them. Because I had refreshed the PC, and all was well and good. Then
I installed it and all was well and good for a few days. Now how ever, the
shortcut doesn't work, it says feature ID not regestured, and the comp keeps
going on about drive errors. Also it's stuck in an endless update and
restart loop. I think it wants to go to Windows 10 but can't since the drive
is so screwed up. Personally, I think something's up and I need to have a
friend format the drive like brand new. But just wanted to see. I wanted to
see if it's even remotely possible the PodCatcher opened some old woond as
it were. Because funny thing is that all was well and good until I came
along and put it on the PC. Also it's install path is blocked. I can't even
uninstall it to reinstall it. Something about where the MSI file goes is
screwed. Thanks for any answers.

Format Factory 3.6 accessible

2015-02-21 Thread Dean Masters
The latest version of Format Factory is now accessible again. the toolbar
down the left sets your choices more as a table than a list.

this program can be used to rip DVD to video, cd to audio, join video, join
audio, change format of video or audio to other audio. Change formats of
photos.

one must use the mouse cursor on the toolbar that goes down the left side of
the page to choose what you want to do. Then one can tab through the dialog.

The last version that was accessible was version 3.

Re: jaws friendly program for cutting out commercials

I use that program. You mark the beginning of the commercial by hitting b
and mark the end of the commercial by hitting n. Then to delete the
commercial hit delete.

Then play the file and you can fast forward in larger chunks by hitting page
down and by smaller incremements by hitting the right arrow key until you
get to the next commercial.

And if you have one complete show on one file then hit control + w to save
the whole file.

I use Dawm Pot Player for 64 bit PC's and don't see an adjustment in that

Does anyone know if this can be changed in Windows or if there is a media

I use it with JAWS 15 and windows 7 64 bit.

It does not rip or do anything but give you the title and names of songs
on
the cd's. Then there are keystrokes so you can copy all the info so you
can

paste it elsewhere.

Hi,
Before winamp did a nice job showing which original cds were played on a
computer by querying a database. But this facility is no longer available
for

winamp as the current owner haven’t payed the annually licence.

So now I’m searching for a utility that will tell what cd is inserted, and
the

track names and so on.
Do you know of a good program for handeling this?

I had the same problem when I ran a line from the headphone output on the TV
to my PC. I dindn't know which of those things to get on Amazon but I knew
that with Comcast they don't ground their lines correctly and that is where
the hum comes from. so I unscrewed the cable connection until the hum went
away. so I have no idea if there is a picture but since I am the only one
that uses the TV it doesn't matter. So the cable connection is just stuck in
enough to get sound but not enough to get the hum.

Re: Hum from Cable

2014-03-20 Thread Dean Masters
What I meant was that if the program had a lot of blasts then the hum
couldn't be heard if the volume of the TV was raised.

I raised the volume too much which distorted the sound but I still had the
hum during the program. So I guess the only thing I can do is do away with
the cable which means recording on VHS or DVD then disconnecting the cable
and playing the recording which I can record on my PC.

Dean,

I'm not sure what you mean about not wishing to raise the volume unless the
movie has explosions and loud parts.
I was referring to when you had the patch cord plugged into the headphone
plug and you were recording. I am
assuming that you are not listening to the movie when you do that. If you
raise the volume on the TV, you might

have to lower the record level on the PC.

The advice to get one long good quality cable rather than using two with the
RCA connector might be worth a try,

too.

Subject: Re: Hum from Cable

This is probably stating the obvious, but be sure to turn up the volume
some

on your TV to overcome any residual
hum that is a part of the TV's circuitry. If you run your headphones at
relatively low volume, you may not hear
the hum, but when that same signal is fed through another amplifier and
played back at a higher volume, hum can
become evident. However, that would be too easy a fix.

Also check where your cable is routed. Sometimes if a cable is too close
to

another power supply, even an AC
adapter, hum can be introduced.

Finally, the cause is most likely the hardest to fix, that being a ground
loop. This is especially likely if your
TV is connected to cable TV. It can be further complicated if your
computer

is connected to a network through an
ethernet connection as well. Try disconnecting the cable from your TV
while

it is on to see if the hum goes away,
realizing, of course, this isn't a viable solution. If the hum does go
away, you probably have a groundloop. We
tend to think that "ground" is "ground" and this just isn't the case. When
devices are connected to ground
through multiple paths that take different routes, those paths can
themselves create what amounts to one turn on a
large coil that can pick up hum. Sometimes to correct such a problem you
have to actually disconnect a device
from ground or isolate devices. Let's take a quick possible example.
Let's

say that your computer is connected
to internet by being plugged into a router that is connected to a cable
modem. In addition to normal grounds,
there is a ground on the ethernet cable that connects back to the ground of
your router, that connects to the
ground on your cable modem that connects to the ground or outer shield of
the coaxial cable that goes to a
splitter where the cable splits and goes to your tv. Now, the ground on
your tv is connected to the audio ground
on your patch cord which connects to the audio ground on your desktop which
is connected to your desktops ground.
We have just described a path that makes a long trip that can be described
as a loop. If disconnecting the cable
from your TV gets rid of the hum, there are filters that can be placed
between a TV and a cable that allows the
cable's shield to act as a ground for radio and TV signals but not for AC.
This would then break this particular
loop. Unfortunately, there are other interactions that can cause ground
loops so figuring out how to avoid them
is a pain.

Of course, if you were able to connect your TV to your desktop using
bluetooth, there would be no physical
connection. This can be done in a number of ways, but the bluetooth sound
might be lower quality. You also might
consider recording on aa portable audio recorder and then

Re: Hum from Cable

In the past I would record the programs on VHS then disconnect the cable and
play the VHS so I could record on my PC without the hum. so it seems like
the only way to record without the hum is to disconnect the cable. But I was
hoping not to have to record on one thing then play to record to my PC. I
was hoping to cut out the middle man and twice the time to record. Plus I am
having trouble with the VHS. The machine also has a DVD recorder if I can
figure out how to run that thing. I guess I need to do that then play the
DVD after disconnecting the cable.

This sounds like an earth loop of some kind.

The first thing to check is whether the cable outlet is isolated
- it should be. Do you use a cable box or does the cable go
straight into the TV? If you have a box, check if you still get
the hum with it disconnected. If not, that's the cause of the
problem and the isolated outlet will cure it.

If you still get hum without the TV cable connected there are
other things to check; is the TV connected to anything else? Do
you have an outside aerial as well, or a satellite receiver?

If the TV is fitted with a two-pin mains plug, is it the right
way round? Try reversing it in the socket.

I'd plump for the cable outlet first, though, it's a very common
problem.

played back at a higher volume, hum can

become evident. However, that would be too easy a fix.

Also check where your cable is routed. Sometimes if a cable is too close to
another power supply, even an AC

adapter, hum can be introduced.

Finally, the cause is most likely the hardest to fix, that being a ground
loop. This is especially likely if your
TV is connected to cable TV. It can be further complicated if your computer
is connected to a network through an
ethernet connection as well. Try disconnecting the cable from your TV while
it is on to see if the hum goes away,
realizing, of course, this isn't a viable solution.

You also might
consider recording on aa portable audio recorder and then transferring the
results to your computer. In the end,
you should be able to record directly on your desktop, but depending upon
other factors, the hum may not be so
easy to eliminate. Maybe, though, you'll be lucky, and turning up the TV's
volume a little will clear up

everything!

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

The PC and TV are on opposite walls so they are about 12 feet apart. so they
can't use the same outlet. The PC is plugged into a uninterrupted power
supply which has the three prong outlets and it is plugged into a three
pronged outlet which means it should be grounded.

Hi.
Using your recommendation, I downloaded and installed Freemake Video
Converter.

I have used it to convert several DVDs to avi.

I have a few questions on its use however.
1. Do you have any idea what some of the buttons that Jaws does not read
might do?
2. The DVDS have multiple titles. So far, I have only been able to convert
the first title, "title 1".
How would I select other titles from the list, and can Freemake Video
Converter convert multiple titles, or do I have to convert one at a time?

Many Thanks.

I use DVD Shrink; it's old, but rarely fails. Allows you to only
pick parts of the disc (like the main film but miss out the
trailer, for example) and choose things like which subtitle or
audio track/s you want.

ALso, as the name suggests, will if needed compress the video so
it will fit on a standard writable disc.

Hey Listers,

I just wanted to take time to say thanks to a kind person on this
list by the name of Humberto who told me about SONGR. If you want a
good and reliable converter of files from Youtube, then this is
definitely the ticket. I might have been a little disappointed with a
small few of the downloads from Youtube over the past week, but not in
SONGR.

I became genuinely interested in Youtube conversions around the 50th
year of the Kennedy assassination because some of the programs
available were quite long, and I could find no way to mark them up
for later listening, making it necessary to relisten to ground I had
already covered. I put out an appeal for some help with the problem,
and Humberto suggested SONGR. It took me a month or so to finally get
around to putting it to the test, but I'm really glad I did. For me
at least, this program has lots of potential.

So, thank God for the list, Humberto, and SONGR.

OK, this may sound a bit over the top, but it isn't often I find an
application as useful as this one.

Thanks for graciously putting up with my gushing ,

Larry

Re: Convert .mkv file

2013-11-24 Thread Dean Masters
I can play the .mkv file on my media player but if I try to jump forward or
backward it takes a while for it to move. I figure that is what is going
wrong with the converters. they are moving faster than the file wants to so
quit converting. I guess I am going to have to play it on one player and
record it in real time with another program. the file is over 1 gig in size
so I don't know how I could get it to anyone to let them try to convert it.

Format Factory & JAWS 14

2013-11-09 Thread Dean Masters
I installed the latest version of Format Factory which is 3.2.1. I think
there was one page you had to read with the jaws cursor to find out it was
trying to install junk on your PC but the buttons were easy enough to tell
it no.

The last accessible version of the program was 3.0.1 where when you clicked
on an item in the left toolbar a menuu would bebelow that item. In versions
since then the focus is on that item but no menu is found anywhere. so I
thought I would try JAWS OCR and did find mp3 and AFE as the only two
choices under audio. I didn't find anything under any of the others even
with OCR. so it would be possible to convert something to mp3 or AFE by
clicking on one of those. And when you do this a dialog does come up which
is accessible.

But with that being the only thing that can be done with the program I guess
it is back to version 3.0.1 for me.

just for information, the newest version of Format Factory which is 3.1.1 is
not accessible at all. I think they changed things for people who use
tablets, etc. I never tried going through the context menu but always
through the program but now when you click on an item in the left side menu
nothing shows up like what kind of audio files do you want to make?

I did change the format of some audio using the context menu but I could not
tab through the dialog as in earlier versions and could not see where to
change the bit rate, etc. So I will be going back to the previous version.
It also adds the ask toolbar but I have WinPatrol which I use to stop it but
then use CCleaner to uninstall it.

To try to answer Clifford's question, I checked out the current version of
format factory on the web, because I haven't updated since version 2.96 and
didn't know if things had changed. However, I found out that with the new
version, you can not opt out of the Ask toolbar during installation. And the
Ask toolbar is very difficult to eliminate. You need a program like Revo
Uninstaller. Therefore, unless you have an earlier version that lets you say
no to the Ask toolbar, or unless you want the Ask toolbar, I can no longer
recommend Format Factory.
By the way, you're correct about the low bit rate. I use Total Recorder when
I want higher ones.

Hi!

Okay, decided not to use Easy CD DA Extractor any longer as the software
certainly wasn't becoming any more accessible under Windows, I think the
name of the software has also changed so forgive me .

So now what to use for Audio file format conversion? Well I just upgraded
my version of Prism Video Converter Plus so decided to look at some of
the
bundled software I could buy alongside my upgrade, I chose to buy the
Switch Plus Audio Format Converter and Wave Pad, I'll talk about the Wave
Pad Audio Editor in another message.

I've seen mention of the Switch Audio Format Converter in previous
messages, list members have given Switch - on previous occasions - a good
wrap and at the discounted price of $10.00 for the Plus edition I decided
to buy and try.

I'm not disappointed.

I see that audacity has an option where you can do this, but the vocals seem

I’m just curious – is there a better program to do this or will there always
be some of the original vocals in the background?

to do so is because I have an accompaniment track for a solo I am singing

starts out soft then the electric guitars kick in. The sound guy would set
the level for the loudest part so I would not be able to hear the
accompaniment during the softest sections so would not know if I was on key

type of accompaniment would chane but not the volume. so all could be at a

Re: Freemake's software

I use the Freemake Video Converter to convert video and make mp3's from
other audio or vidoe. I also download Youtube using this program.

when you get a link for a Youtube site go to the video converter

open the menus and go to the edit menu. the only thing in there is paste so
hit enter.

Next go to the menus to the convert menu. Here you can choose what format if
you want video or mp3 and enter on that.

A dialog will come up. Tab to edit preset and hit enter.

Tab through and choose the bit rate, etc. then enter on OK

You will be back in the original dialog. Tab to ... and enter to choose
which folder to put the new files in.

Then when back in the original dialog tab to the convert button and hit
enter.

When it is finished you will have a window over the program that says
success. So alt + f4 to close this window.

Hey listers,

Just wonder if someone could help me with this issue.

I am trying to figure out how to use IE8 as an aggregator for
podcasts, but can't figure out how to effectively subscribe to RSS
feeds. In other words, when I subscribe, I never get any indication
that I've been in anyway successful. I have never received a Podcast
from C-SPAN for example, and others I cannot at present recall.

If IE isn't a practical way to subscribe to or receive Podcasts,
please let me know, and also why this should be.

If anybody could recommend another aggregator besides iTunes, that
would really be appreciated also.

If this is understood by any who might be willing to respond to this
question to be barely on topic, please respond off list.

Thanks much,

Larry

like I had one in the past that would do this but don't remember what it
was.

thanks,

Re: Freemake Video Converter and Youtube

2013-03-16 Thread Dean Masters
The video file formats I am familiar with which are available are .avi,
.wmv, .mpeg, .mp4. There are others listed in case you have a smart phone
and you can choose a format just for that smart phone. Or if there is a
video in some other format you can choose Youtube to put it in the form to
upload to Youtube.

I don't use video so I can't really say which one is better for you. I would
assume most computers would be able to play .avi or .wmv files.

I found out that one of the files I tried to download was blocked. the other
link was for a folder. You can play videos from the folder but can't save
any of them.

Hello Dean and list: Thanks for taking the time to write this out for us
who want to use Freemake; it should be most helpful and I am keeping this in
hopes to make the next experience with the program easier! One more
question: if I want video as well as audio, which would be the best choice
to use as far as that list is concerned? You said if we just want audio, we
want MP3. But I gather that for video that there are several choices?

First you must get the URL of the Youtube video you want. I have five
e-mails which each has one link to a video. I used the append to clipboard
to have all five links on my clipboard. If you are not comfortable with
this or don't know how to do this, you could open a text editor and copy
and paste each URL into the text editor. Here are my links:

http://www.youtube.com/user/fourtwelvevideos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNuQbJst4Lk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32-k2_VLq_M

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsl6YXHdWnE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=PcwGrzA8Cj4&feature=endscreen

If you have them all on your clipboard you can go to your previously
opened Freemake Video Converter. If you copy them to a text editor just
select all and copy with control + c then tab to your previously opened
Freemake Video Converter.

Hit alt

Arrow over to edit

Paste will be the only item on that menu so hit enter. This pastes the
links into the program.

Hit alt

arrow over to convert menu

Down arrow to the format you want to save the file in. If you only want
the audio arrow down to mp3. If you want the video then choose one of the
video formats in the menu.

I have chosen mp3 so that is what I entered on in the convert menu

A dialog will come up. the first thing you hear is mp3 output parameters

Tab once and you will find a combo box and it will say custom.

Tab again and there is a button to create a preset. If you like to use
presets you can go through the dialog for each preset you wish to create.
but I don't use presets. I just edit the custom preset that is there.

So I tab one more time to edit preset

Another dialog will open and you will hear mp3 preset editor

Tab once and you will hear custom which is what I use so tab again

Here is a combo box to choose the bit rate of your file. You can up and
down arrow through the combo box to find the bit rate you would like.
Youtube videos aren't usually that great so you don't need a high bit
rate. I will set mine at 128 kbps

Tab again and you can choose but I usually leave this at 44,100 hz

Tab again and there is a combo box where you can choose between mono and
stereo by arrowing up and down

the next time you tab jaws doesn't say anything so I don't know if
anything is there or not so tab once more to the OK button and hit enter.

You will end back at your original dialog at edit preset.

Tab again and there is a button to delete a preset so tab again

The next two tabs jaws speaks nothing so I don't know if anything is there
or not.

Tab to the button that says ... and hit enter

Another dialog will open up. This is a tree view just like My Computer or
Windows Explorer. so arrow through the tree view to find a folder you
would like your mp3 to end up in.

Once you have chosen a folder tab twice to the OK button and hit enter.

You will be returned to the top of the original dialog.

Tab all the way through the dialog. If you would like your files to show
up in iTunes then check the checkbox near the end of the dialog. Check the
box by hitting the spacebar.

Tab to the convert button and hit enter.

The program will let you know the percentage of the work that has been
done. When it is through a window will come up that says success. Hit alt
+ f4 to close this window.

Tab to the program and it will also let you know the work is finished. Hit
alt + f4 to get back to the program.

Re: Question About Free You Tube Converter

2013-03-15 Thread Dean Masters

You can use the free program Freemake Video Converter which is available at:

www.freemake.com

You copy the link of the Youtube page then go to the opened program.

Next go to the edit menu and the only thing there is paste so enter on that.

Next go to the convert menu and choose which format to save the video or
audio.

A dialog will come up. You can set presets or change presets then tab to ...
and enter to select where to save the file.

then tab to convert and hit enter.

You may get some warnings or alerts. I don't know what these say since jaws
won't read them. sometimes you will be able to download the Youtube but some
of the videos are blocked. so if you get a warning or alert try a few more
times to make sure if you can download it or not.

Then a dialog comes up where you can tab to change preset to change the

I have no idea why it is putting two copies of the same song together.

Subject: A Couple Questions About Freemake Audio Converter

Guys, I've installed this Freemake Audio Converter, and done some file
conversions with it. It's (mostly) accessible with my Window Eyes 8.1, and
it does exactly what I want it to do, that is, convert my mp3 files into m4a
files, sounding the same but saving me on storage space. It'll even convert
multiple files at once, so I can convert whole albums at a time. And, it
preserves most of the audio tags. So I like the program overall and I want
to use it. However, I just had a couple of questions:

I can't figure out how to tell it where to put the converted files. That's a
minor annoyance, but the bigger problem is that it is making two of every
converted file. Except for the filenames, of course, they are exactly the
same, making the conversions twice as long and then causing me to have to
delete the duplicates. Anyone seen this and know how to stop it, and does
anyone know of a way to tell it where to put its converted files? There
doesn't look to be any option for that in the menus anywhere.

Thanks much.

USB headphones with Windows 7

2013-02-25 Thread Dean Masters
I had some USB headphones with microphone which I got to use on my previous
PC. I wanted to use it so I could use Skype so plugged them in and Windows 7
home premium 64 bit PC found the drivers.

So I go to the volume control on my system tray and choose playback. There
is a combo box where I can go between the USB headphones and the RealTech
speakers.

I select one and tab to set as default and hit enter. but something weird is
going on.

When I select the RealTech speakers as my default all sound comes from my
headphone. And the volume icon in the system tray says speakers.

To be able to hear through my speakers I have to choose the headphone. so
the icon in the system tray says headphone but the sound come from my
speakers except for the sound from my media player of choice which is Dawm
Pot player. so I have to wear my headphones to listen to media but JAWS
comes through the speakers.

I just tried it with iTunes and the audio from that program also comes
through the headphones.

What is making this weird thing happen and what do I need to do to get it
straightened out?

I recorded some shows on my VCR/DVD recorder. I did use tape since a DVD
has

to be finalized before you can use it on another machine and that
finalization is not accessible.

So I hooked audio cords to the audio RCA jacks on the back of the VCR and
ran them across the room to my PC. I ran them into a splitter which has a
plug which plugged into the line in on back of my PC.

I have a hum which is recorded when I record the audio. Is there some way

there some way to get rid of the hum using software like noise clean-up?

Recording from VCR

2013-01-22 Thread Dean Masters

I recorded some shows on my VCR/DVD recorder. I did use tape since a DVD has
to be finalized before you can use it on another machine and that
finalization is not accessible.

So I hooked audio cords to the audio RCA jacks on the back of the VCR and
ran them across the room to my PC. I ran them into a splitter which has a
plug which plugged into the line in on back of my PC.

I have a hum which is recorded when I record the audio. Is there some way of
getting rid of the hum so future recordings won't have them in them? Is
there some way to get rid of the hum using software like noise clean-up?

Thanks for any help,
Dean

Hi folks,
Do any of you have any suggestions as to the easiest way to Copy the sound
file from video on to my Win 7 computer, using Jaws 13 or 14, in MP3 format?

Should there be an Audio in on my internal or external sound card, that
could be connected to my video-player's audio out?

What recording program do you think would work best with Jaws 13 or 14?

Many thanks! Vicky

Re: Saving MP3 Files in Freemake

2012-10-18 Thread Dean Masters
If you have the video converter then I assume you have gone to the edit menu
and entered on paste. then you went to the convert menu and went to mp3 and
hit enter.

A dialog box should have come up. You can tab to edit presets and choose the
quality of file you want to save. Then when you get back to the dialog you
tab to ... Enter on this and the save dialog will come up. After you choose
where to save and change the file name if you wish you will go back to the
mp3 dialog where you tab to convert and hit enter.

so the p;lace to choose where you want it saved is two tabs before the
convert button.

Good evening all,

I have just downloaded and installed Freemake and appear to have downloaded
a Youtube video of some Hawaiian music. However, I am unable to find the
presumably converted MP3 file either in my music or downloads folder. The
menus do not appear to be a standard windows pulldown menu and I do not find
a file > save dialogue box that gives me the option of saving it to a folder
on the hard drive. All suggestions and tips appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: program to convert mp4 to avi

2012-10-10 Thread Dean Masters
Freemake Video Converter is a good program to use and it is free. find it
at:

www.freemake.com

You just go to the file menu and enter on select video.
then go to the convert menu and select avi.

Next I assume a dialog will appear where you can edit the settings. I have
only converted to audio but assume the same type dialog would come up for
video as well.

with this program you can also save YouTube videos and videos from a lot of
sites.

Re: blind friendly duplicate audio file remover?

2012-07-27 Thread Dean Masters

try No Dupe which can be found at:

http://otissoft.co.uk

The way I use it is to go into Windows Explorer to the folder I want to
search. Then I hit the applications key and move to search with No Dupe and
hit enter. After it searches the program will come up and there is a tab for
results you can go through.

One thing I don't get is that every time it starts up it checks to see if
there is an update. And even if there is no update it brings up a window
telling you which version you are using and which version is available.
There are buttons yes and no to enter on to download or not. so be careful.
just because that window comes up it doesn't mean there is a new version to
download.

I have been using Audacity 1.3 beta. Are there any advantages in upgrading
to 2.0? Also, the noise reduction effect in Audacity appears to be far
superior to that in Goldwave, which I used up until a few years ago. Is
this accurate or just an isolated event? For example, I successfully
eliminated virtually all of the background noise from a recording without
affecting the quality of the voice. When I would attempt to do this in
Goldwave, I would get that under-water cell phone distortion effect at times
in some parts of the recording.
