Re: Infrarecorder - I Found A Problem

I did, Brian. It's the new one that doesn't like to burn an audio CD on my
computer. I was getting to like the program, too, but some hits from Google
suggest my disk drive may be prone to this problem, although Express Burn
seems to succeed, so I am moving forward. Thanks for your help.

I installed Infrarecorder, and have successfully burned a data disk. I
can't burn an audio CD, however. I have 5 .wav files that I want to make
into an audio CD, and I go through all the steps including burn
 compilation
to disk, but, when pressing OK, the CD simply ejects with a message Write
Buffer - OK or Cancel. This may be my TsstCorp sh-s23 drive, but I
 thought
I should ask if any Infrarecorder user has successfully made an audio cd
from .wav files before I abandon the program. All suggestions gratefully

ok randy,
it's very very simple.
start infrarecorder.
on the file menu choose new project, and thenn data dvd.
now you get 2 windows one where you find select and copy your files from and
an empty one where you simply paste the files into.
Now when you have done that just go to the action menu, and choose burn
compilation and decide which kind of disk you wnanawanna write.

This should get you started.

Since you've not used a burner till now, and since you're only backing

reliable well known burning suite such as Nero. There's lots of info and

Recommendations On CD/DVD Burning Programs, Please

2009-06-25 Thread graham stoodley
I was a devoted user of CDRWIN to burn Cds and DVDs mostly for storing MP3
and other files, but also Making music CDs. My new computer and its CD/DVD
drive is not recognized by CDRWIN, which seems to have ceased updates. I
would be greatful for recommendations on burning programs that work well
with JAWS, and will verify the integrity of the files burned to disc.
Ripping is not a priority because I have other programs for that. I doubt
that I need the complexity of Exact Audio Copy, but I'd appreciate
suggestions from list members.

Re: Batch Conversion With Sound Taxi

2009-01-29 Thread graham stoodley
Arthur, I also have the pro version of Sound Taxi, and as far as I can
tell, the only extra conversion speed you get is if you are converting
more than one file at a time. Converting more than one file
simultaneously does seem to be slightly faster than would be
converting them serially one after the other. So, in converting a
single file, the Pro version won't perform faster than the Platinum
version. The claim for faster conversion on the Sound Taxi web site
does not go out of its way to make this distinction clear, as I
learned after I bought the Pro version.

Re: batch processing in Sound Forge

2006-02-15 Thread Graham Stoodley
Dean, batch processing is much more accessible in Sound Forge 8 than I
found it with earlier versions and the extrernal module, which I could
never get to work. I have made the batch processing work in Sound
forge 8. For the record, I was using JAWS 7 and the Snowman's
scripts, so I cannot say how much of the added access is due to the
Snowman scripts, but it was definitely better than the external
module. For what it's worth, that's my take.

I have questions about batch processing in Sound Forge, version 8 and
also
using the external batch processing module available with earlier
versions.

Right now I have the earlier version, and can't figure out how to do
what I
want to do with it. I want to add effects to numbers of files. I can
see
how to ad plug-ins, but I don't want to do that, I want to add
built-in
Sound Forge effects such as normalize and time warp. I am using JAWS
or
Window-Eyes, whichever is better for this task.

The folks at Sony offered me a lower-than-advertised (supposedly)
upgrade
price to upgrade to version 8. Is batch processing more accessible
there?

I can do all this in GoldWave, but Sound Forge is much faster so I'd
like
to use it if I can.

Thanks.

Re: Sound Forge 8 and Noise Reduction Questions

2006-01-04 Thread Graham Stoodley
Nolan, I have had good results in removing crosstalk by using the
Noise Gate function in the SF8 menu. That's Noise Gate rather than
Noise Reduction. You need to tinker with the decibel setting -
somewhere between -30 and -35 worked best for me without cutting off
the speech at the end of phrases, and you still get crosstalk
sometimes during the speech, but it made a big difference in the final
product.

I endorse Curtis's suggestion (posted later) of using a commercial
stereo cassette deck, and resampling and reversing tracks to get the
final result. It's a little more technically intensive, but the
results are worth it. I would love to know Curtis's secret for
removing as much hiss as he does with Noise Reduction. I could never
achieve those results, which I am sure is more a comment on the
operator than on the product.

Greetings, all, and thanks in advance for reading this.

I'm using Sound Forge 8 to digitize NLS four-track books for use in my
Book
Port. So here's the question:

I'd love to reduce some of the tape hiss I get and to reduce some of
the
crosstalk that comes about when I record in stereo. (I record using a
handi-cassette as my player, record the tapes at double speed, then
reverse
tracks 3 and 4. I then resample the recordings so the speed is
normal,
combine the tracks and save them as single MP3 files that I later suck
into
the Book Port.

How do I institute the plug-in that would help reduce at least the
hiss if
not the crosstalk?

Please, no messages about how I need a different player as my source.
Trust
me, I get that already!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Sound Forge 8 and Precise Editing

2005-09-09 Thread Graham Stoodley
Nolan, out of my limited Sound Forge 8 experience, just up-arrow or
down-arrow changes the zoom rate for how much the right or left arrows
move the cursor. If you still have trouble, perhaps marking the
beginning of the portion to be deleted with the letter I, and the end
with the letter O might work for you in making the selection. The I
and the O are for marking in and out, and seem to have replaced the
left and right brackets that worked in earlier versions of SF.

Good luck.

I've been using Sound Forge 8 for about two months now, and I'm
struggling
with an editing issue I hope someone here can help me solve.

I can't get it to select very small amounts of data when I do a
Shift+Right
or Shift+Left arrow. I can get it to move in tiny increments when I
just do
a left or right arrow to move through the file, but I want to be able
to
edit out single syllables and other tiny points in an audio file.
I've done
a series of Shift+Up arrows to decrease the amount of the selection,
but
nothing I do seems to help.

What frustrates me most is that the setting is almost certainly right
in
front of me, staring at me larger than life, so to speak. But I can't
figure it out to save me. I desperately need to do precise edits with
this
program the way I could with Sound Forge 5. I'm working on another
audio
Christmas project for my kids this year, and I need to edit the job
with
real precision. Please, any Sound Forge users out there with any
ideas or
even speculation, chime in. And if this is such a narrow topic that
it
doesn't help the majority on the list, please don't hesitate to reply
privately. I've spent hours in the preferences menu trying to figure
out
what would give me the option of very small incremental selections
with
Shift+Right Arrow and such, and it's not jumping out at me at all.

Best Wishes,

Nolan Crabb

 simply go

Outlook express users can simply press the f3 key and you can read

Hope this helps folks, and many apologies for continuing what has

Re: mp3 point 5, what is it?

2005-01-05 Thread Graham Stoodley
I use a Victor Classic, version 2.2.4, not the Classic Plus, and it plays
32-bit MP3 files 22,050 mono all the time. What are you using to encode?

I have been evaluating the Victor Classic for the Mid Illinois talking book
project and found that:
(1) it will NOT play 32 bit (mono) files (22.050K mp3 files (using the
2.56 update)
(2) will not play 64K (stereo mp3 files) but does play vbr encoded files.
(3) when files are vbr it does NOT correctly display the time remaining or
the time used on the disk by such files in the info (0) report.
Also, one thing which is extremely annoying is that there is no folder
navigation in the case that books might be put in folders on a given mp3
cd
If, also, there are no (according to Victor Classic) playable mp3 files
on the disk, though there is a disk full of 32K mono mp3 files, it says,
no book on disk, rather than just saying file type not supported, as
it does when there are some.

gotten around to trying it yet.

Hello,
Recently, I sent an email to Visuaide asking whether low bit rate mp3
files were supported
in the Victor Classic Plus. I got a reply indicating that low bit rate
mp3 files were
supported but not the mp3 point 5 format.

Deleting Regions in Sound Forge - Can it Be Done?

2004-11-15 Thread Graham Stoodley
In my current project in Sound forge 7, I create regions for the material I
wish to record to CD. I can't figure out how to edit a region name or
delete a region. Can any Sound Forge user advise me how to edit region
names or delete regions?

Re: the realspeak synthisizer.

2004-09-10 Thread Graham Stoodley
I believe it came bundled with version 7 of the Kurzweil 1000 scanning
program, and was then replaced in Version 8. If you have version 7, you
should still have the Realspeak voices.

Would anyone on here happen to know where or if it's even possible anymore
to obtain the realspeak synthisizer? I appologize if this message is off
topic for this list.

Noise Reduction Sound Forge Dilemma; Solution Needed

2004-06-01 Thread Graham Stoodley
When using Noise Reduction with Sound Forge 7, I want to take a noise print
from the middle of the file and then apply it to the whole file. I can't
seem to get the technique of doing it. Sometime ago, I read of a way to
select the whole file from within the Noise Reduction preset, but I can't
find the spot to click. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Ken. Now I remember that that's where I think I first learned it
could be done. I will check as you suggest.

 Graham,

I covered this very subject for ACB Radio a couple of years ago. Just look
for my name in the archives and you should have it.

Re: Will XP burn an MP3 to disk?

2004-05-01 Thread Graham Stoodley
Andy, try this in Windows Xp for burning MP3 to a CD. Highlight the files
you want to copy. Copy them to the clipboard with CTRL-C. Put a blank CD
in your drive. Navigate to your drive with the blank CD in it. When there,
press CTRL-V to paste the MP3 files into the drive. Screen reader should
tell you that the files are there, but you are not finished yet. Now press
ALT-F and arrow down to Write these files to CD, or type T to get there
quicker. Press ENTER and the CD writing wizard will appear. Follow the
prompts, choosing to write a data disk, since you have MP3 files. That has
always worked for me in XP.
