What about those software packages that are supposed to allow you to watch
satelite TV on your computer? Are any of those accessible with Jaws?

Re: Describe Video Service

2007-06-23 Thread Jana Jackson
LOL!!! Good point, Bruce. However, I do believe that something is in the
works. Now that laws have become tougher regarding closed captioning, it
should be a little more difficult to explain why we can't have more audio
description. We probably could if folks would start working together
instead of behaving like jealous children... Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox.

Winamp Scripts

2007-05-30 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I just installed Winamp 5.35. I've been using the scripts from JFW
Lite with 5.33, but it looks like they don't work very well with 5.35. Not
in the library, anyway. Is there a way to get the original scripts back, or
has someone written some new ones? Thanks!

Re: Problem Ripping All Tracks From A CD

2007-05-29 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, John! Wish I could help. I know that I've had that problem, but it's
usually when a CD is scratched or dirty. I'm sure this isn't the case with
yours. Sounds like there could be some sort of software to work around. I
did have one CD that absolutely wouldn't allow me to rip it, although it
played just fine. I would imagine the same thing was going on with it.
Hopefully, someone will be able to come up with a solution. Take care!

Re: winamp

2007-04-19 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I've never used Winamp to burn CD's, but over the last 2 months, I've
ripped almost my entire CD collection to my hard drive, using Winamp Pro.
The process has worked very well for me, and it is very quick, usually about
3 minutes for a CD. Take care!

Sound Forge Tutorial

2007-04-16 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, all! I'm trying to find a tutorial for Sound Forge 8 that is
accessible. I need one ASAP. Also, I'm planning to use Sound Forge to
record radio shows. I need to be able to talk over intros to songs
sometimes, and I'll probably need to record intros to promote my show.
Would SF be the right choice for me, since I already have it, or would it be
better for me to go with GoldWave? Thanks!

Re: JAWS Scripts for Skype

2007-04-03 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! For some reason, I'm not able to download these scripts. I just
started using Internet Explorer 7 last week, so I'm not sure if something
has changed. When I try to download the scripts, I get the message that
Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close. Any ideas as
to what could be wrong? I don't think I've ever encountered this before.
Thanks!

Skype Question

2007-03-28 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I am hoping to launch an on-line radio program soon, and I was wondering
if any of you happen to use Skype for recording phone interviews. I have an
older version of Skype, but I really haven't played with it very much. I've
heard that the audio quality of recordings with Skype isn't great, but I
thought things might have changed with newer versions. Thanks!

Station Playlist

2007-03-15 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I'm currently looking at various broadcasting tools, and I've heard
that Station Playlist is very accessible. I downloaded a demo of Creator,
and it was somewhat friendly. However, I noticed that when I was creating a
playlist, it wouldn't show me all of my sub-folders within my music folder
after I had selected a tune. It would default to whatever sub-folder I had
selected, and no matter what I did, it wouldn't let me see any of the other
ones. Do I need Jaws scripts to use it well? And is the Studio software
accessible? My guess is that I probably don't necessarily need that, since
I'm using Winamp. May not need Creator either, but I thought it might be
helpful, since it keeps track of the time for you. I don't have an entire
station, just a 2-hour show which will start as soon as I can figure out how
to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Re: WinAmp Library in 5.33 With JAWS8.0.1163

2007-03-13 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, Dana! You're quite welcome. I've noticed that Jaws sometimes loses
focus when I'm in the library. When that happens, I've found that using the
Control-Tab keystroke to cycle through the different windows will fix it.
It's still kind of a pain, but you're right, they do work better.

Re: WinAmp Library in 5.33 With JAWS8.0.1163

2007-03-13 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, Dana! You know what, I just so hate to admit this, but I am SO wrong!
I'm functioning on very little sleep, and I was in a hurry when I was
writing about that. I got the library and the playlist editor mixed up!
I do notice when I go to the library that I get a message that
says, "Press F6 to switch between frames." So while the scripts I found on
JFWLite do work really well, I'm not sure whether or not they make the
library any more accessible. I do notice that Jaws doesn't default to that
dashboard thing when I switch to the library, like it did before I installed
them. Not sure if it's the scripts, or if maybe I inadvertently did
something to make it go away, but whatever, it's not bugging me anymore.
  Sorry for the confusion!

Re: FTP Programs Off Topic

2007-03-10 Thread Jana Jackson
Tom, since I was the one who posed the question, I have to tell you that you
apparently did not read my question very carefully. I was NOT asking about
how to use an FTP client. I simply wanted info on FTP clients that were
accessible. I've been on many e-mail lists, and I've never seen a moderator
make such a huge deal over a question that wasn't even completely off-topic!
Now, maybe someone else asked about how to use an FTP client once upon a
time, but since mine seems to have caused the problem, I encourage you to
take another look at the original post.

Re: FTP and DST Off Topic

2007-03-04 Thread Jana Jackson
It won't necessarily tell me which FTP client is accessible. No worries, I
finally found someone who was kind enough to help. I do have a life, and
sometimes it's just helpful to find someone who is in the know and
considerate enough to try to assist, especially when you're trying to find
information on several topics at once. My recent requests for help have
prompted me to consider starting a listserv of my own through my Web site.
I've always found that you get a lot more flies with honey than with
vinegar, regardless of the topic.

Re: FTP and DST Off Topic

2007-03-03 Thread Jana Jackson
Well, then, someone is welcome to e-mail me off-list. When a person needs
help with something and doesn't know where to go, they should be able to at
least ask for it. I've been working on getting a workable system together
for weeks, so that I can start my radio show. For every work-around I find,
five more hurdles seem to pop up. Figured that this one should be easily
fixed.

Now, I apologize for not putting the words Off-topic in the subject line,
but rather than getting told off for it, maybe it would be better if you
just told me where to find one, whether on or off-list. It isn't like I
started a thread, I haven't gotten a single response! That's okay, but I
mean, come on!

If anyone can help me, my e-mail address is either
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
or

Thanks!

Winamp Scripts

2007-03-02 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I downloaded the Winamp scripts from JFW Lite earlier this week, and
I've been ripping CD's to my heart's content. However, I can't seem to
access the playlist editor very well at all. Does anyone know if there are
scripts that may be a little more up-to-date? Thanks!

Hi, Doc! Does DVD Audio Extractor extract the audio for the entire DVD,

Winamp Pro Info

2007-02-26 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! This is for the person who is trying to create MP3's with Winamp Pro to
use in your work as a DJ. I'm about to be doing the same thing, and I was
determined to figure out how to rip CD's with Winamp Pro, which is also the
player that we're using for broadcasting. Happily, if you're using JFW 7 or
later, there are some scripts at
http://www.jfwlite.com
that will help. The feature is located in the library, and without those
scripts, you just won't get very far with Jaws. I'm still getting
familiar with the process, but if you try it and run into any trouble, let
me know... I now know enough to be dangerous! The process for
figuring all this out has been a nightmare, so once it's over, I'm happy to
help if I can. I wish you the best with your work... Take care!

Re: Making mp3s

2007-02-25 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! I'm trying to figure out where to even find the CD-ripping feature in
Winamp. I have Winamp Pro, which is supposed to be very quick, and my
understanding is that you can create MP3's of excellent quality. I'm going
to try the CDDA Extractor, too. But if someone could tell me where to find
the CD stuff in Winamp, I would really appreciate it.

DJ Help Needed

2007-02-20 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi, everyone! I'm new to the list, and I'm desperate for some help. In a few
days, I'm scheduled to begin hosting a daily 2-hour Christian radio show for
an on-line radio station. I know there are a lot of accessible options out
there for broadcasting, but if possible, I'd like to be able to use the same
set-up as the other DJ's, so that we're on the same page, so to speak.

We're using Winamp, along with ShoutCast, and we're currently broadcasting
on Live365. We use the IVocalize software, and we're broadcasting from a
virtual chat room. Basically, I need help from the ground up. For starters,
I just spent 2 hours in the radio room, trying to get both the music and the
microphone to play through my system. It seems that there's a plug-in that I
can get for Winamp, so that I can do this, but I have no idea where to go to
find it. If there isn't, is there a setting that I need to change to make
it work? Also, I'm using JFW 8, and while I'm managing to kind of use
IVocalize, I'm sure that there are scripts that I can get that will make it
work better... Does anyone know where I can find them?

Last question for now. Is the CD-ripper in Winamp accessible? I recently
purchased Winamp Pro, because among other things, I needed a faster program
for ripping CD's than the one I'm currently using. However, I haven't been
able to figure out how to get to the CD-ripper in Winamp.

I know that I have other questions, lots of them, but after spending all
this time trying to listen to everyone typing and/or talking to me in that
chat room and trying to follow their directions, I think my brain is just
completely fried! If you like, you can e-mail me off-list at either

or

I've noticed that my spam filter isn't allowing some messages to come
through, so you may want to send your responses to both of my e-mail
addresses, if you e-mail me off-list. I'll leave my phone numbers here as
well. Thanks so much, and God bless!

P.S. I have an Alva Braille display, and since I'm proficient with Braille,
I'm certainly open to suggestions for using it in this situation, so that I
don't have to use speech as much. I wish that JFW had a feature for
disabling speech while moving from one program to another. It would be good
if the option for muting the speech could remain on until JFW was re-started
or until a person wanted to toggle it back on, instead of having to disable
it again every time you Alt-tab between programs. Thanks!

Jana
