Music Players, Vista (all flavors), and JAWS 8 (both versions) working together or not
Hello List! I recently purchased a new PC that came with Vista (home) installed already. I also own several players (Winamp Pro; Nero 7; EMC7/8/9; Recordnow Max; Real Player; and Power DVD (the latest). I recently purchased JAWS 8. Recently, when I installed Nero on my daughter's new notebook computer, the system went crazy and we had to take it back to Best buy to check on or replace it. The technician said the problem was the wrong version of Nero on the system. He said Nero and other similar programs must do patches to make their products compatible with Vista. Do Winamp and the other players have the same problem and must be upgraded to Vista versions? Also, does JAWS 8 (Vista) really work well with all flavors of Vista and what about all of those burners and stuff we have? Hope this question is on topic and you can answer it for me. Easy CDDA Extractor (Free or Pay)
Hello List! I have owned Poikosoft's Easy CDDA Extractor for years and many versions. I recently checked the Poikosoft Site to download and get a key for their latest version; however, I cannot seem to be able to get it going. Previously, I could enter my email address and a key would be emailed to me. Now, when I enter my email address, I get a page asking or telling me to purchase the latest version of the program. I think it has OG Vorbis features and we must purchase a license to use this feature. I also saw another price of $29.95 for a full program and $14.95 for the OG license. Can someone tell me what is going on. Do I get the program free as before or do I have to pay for a new license and the Og license to get free future uploads. I am not sure of what to do. It still offers free upgrades, but now I am not sure. Weird Sounds Coming ThroughSystem when using Roxio 6.2 and JAWS 5.1?S
Hello List! Recently, I began hearing a weird sound from my system--only when I burn CD's with Roxio 6.2. What happens is that, while the burn process is going on, each time JAWS trys to read some data, the sound card goes wild, all gittery, deep-sounding, and slow (like a big bump deep sound, and sometimes light sounding; yet the burn process goes through all right. When I turn off the JAWS (either chosing, none or unload jaws), the sound is no longer there. When I have it set for all or highlight, or if I access JAWS in any way, the sound is there again. It is annoying to say the least. Does anyone know what is going on. I ran the JAWS repair utility twice, but the same process comes back. What is going on? the only thing I can think of doing is install a router, but I can't see how that could do it. I still don't see any sign of the router installation. Have I damaged my system. If anyone sounds, do let me know. New MP3 Player Not Seen in Drive Line-upre
Hello List! I just purchased a new MP3 Player today at Best Buy. It came with a disc withe the installation file. Windows says it recognizes new hardware, but when I go to the My Computer and open up it and view the list of drives, the MP3 drive cannot be seen. On the otherhand, I plug in a thumb drive and it immediately sees it. The system does see it and asks me if I want to scranize with Windows Media Player. I am suppose to be able to download MP3 or WMA files to this ystem. My thought is that I have a USB compatability problem (maybe my system which is old and has the old USB style is too old and the MP3 player is a USB 2). Could this be the case. I heard that Apple IPODS and similar devices are all USB2. Is this the case or is it time for me to upgrade my system? Hope someone can answer this. I've been in the software world for over 25 years, and for a small operation with one guy doing all the coding, Louis has done about as impressive a job as I've ever seen. Small companies don't have the same resources and teams of programmers to throw at a project - and therefore are almost always limited in how much effort they can invest in small market segments. And products with huge potential markets can invest more in targeting niche market groups. SAM, obviously, will always be a niche market product. As a small developer, I know how critical it is to make those hard decisions dividing your time up - and having to do it and judge which things make the most business sense. As much as I might sympathize with your problem, if I were calling the shots I wouldn't for a minute consider rewriting the program for a handful of users. Bryan & Louis have done an amazing job getting SAM to the point that it is - and as with any software application, it continues to be a growing and evolving process. Just my two cents worth... Fw: Accessability of Sam Broadcaster Program and its usability for Blind People
- Original Message - From: Jardata_Mail_Services To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; pc-audio@pc-audio.org ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; James Robinson ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 1:47 AM Subject: Accessability of Sam Broadcaster Program and its usability for Blind People Hello Spacial Audio.com and List! When I purchased Sam Broadcaster, I was led to believe it was one of the most usable and exciting broadcasting programs around. However, as soon as I opened it up, I found out that it is pretty tough for a blind person to use. I was a bit perplexed at this because it does pretty much what other similar programs do and those programs seem to be able to make their programs accessable for all people. Even Winamp, a free program, makes an effort to make their programs useful to all. Well, I even signed up for your streaming service, but got nowhere with signing up for the program and using it. I had to cancel my subscription because I could not use your program to sign up. I could get a sighted person to click on the moving screen to get things done, but this option is not always available to me. Anyway, I want to get it done myself. I am not sure why the design is what it is, as all I and other blind people want is to be able to set up and manipulate our play lists, connect to the server, play music and/or talk on the radio, and enjoy the program like anyone else. I am always surprised at companies wo say, "We are a small company and are not interested in making our program useful to all." Programmers write code and it is no easier or harder to write one like yours than it is to write one using conventional methods. the real question is "why doesn'' your company feel it is advantageous to make your program accessale to blind people, since blind people are one of the major groups who use such programs." I have purchased Sam Broadcaster on a four-month installment program. I am wondering should I take back my money and try another program or give you an opportunity to make the program useful to me. I like the way your auto dj works (easy), but that is where it stops. Even the microphone feature and talk feature are not usable, as I can't find them. My wife can because she can see, but this does not help me, especially when she is away. My wife is beautiful and helpful, but she cannot read for me when she is in downtown Los Angeles working or sleeping o taking a shower, when I need something done with your program. I want to be able to use it. >From what I know, the "Delphi" system is the culprit, as it is designed to >have things moving on the screen that "sighted people" can just point a mouse >at and click and things work. A database and playlist can be made accessible >and does not have to be floating. You can have things on the screen and make >them work similar to other windows features. You know, "XM Radio," a similarly small company, also had a weird setup, whereby blind people could not see the screen with screen readers; yet they worked with us and now their site is usable. They have edit screens and boxes and the features are true, so we can find hem with our cursor and/or mouse keys. I am not asking you to change your program for me or other blind people, just make it accessible. Put all of your featuresd in a menu section so we can use them (text file type). In othr words, give me line command capability or menu driven features that do everything from the keyboard as sighted people can do with the mouse. For example, if I want to search for a song, give me a command way to do this (edit field for search menu item; then tab to go and have a box where the song shows up to be played.). Mike set up (put it in the menus and I can set it there and check or uncheck it to make it work). You can easily make all of your screen features doable in your menu structure. In other words, if you wish, make an accessible version, which a blind person could invoke through your configuration menu item. You could alsomake your program available to screen reader companies to plan for it. I have heard that this company is not interested in working with the blind users of the program to make your program usable. If this is the case, it is unfortunate. However, it it is the case, then let me know and I can take my money back and move onto a program that will work for me. I like Sam Broadcaster, but only if I can use all of it. Connecting to my broadcast server and playing my music should b easy, not a hard task. I won't drag this out, but I want my voice heard. The company could put out a help feature telling people how to access the program or put out a blind friendly product with your progr

XM Radio
Hello List! I recently signed up for the XM Radio Online Service. I have been able to play a few stations online, but for the most part, it is a hit and miss proposition. I emailed XM Radio with my complaints and asked them for a better way of accessing their stations online. They say they are committed to helping "all" of their customers and want their service to work for us all. I have one of their receivers and boombox setups and the radio works fine, except for a periodic satellite-reaching problem. I'm in an apartment and sometimes I lost signal when the antenna falls or someone walks across the signal in another oom. They could bet a better antenna for those radios. It would also be good if they had a Direct TV type setup and we could use Direct TV or Dish dishes to run our radios. I hear it works fine in cars. Maybe they have small dishes on cars. The home system antenna does not have a dish, just a long antenna. What is wrong with just having buttons or links that work upon "pressing the enter key" or "pressing the spacebar" to reach a station or stream. They can still have this linked to security password and user name set up. Or they could offer a text only version for those who use screen readers (as a separate page); then we could go there first and then have the links list right in front of us and could click on anyone we please. There is only 65 or so choices. I'm sure someone on this list would be glad to help them out along these lines. I haven't tried the other service, but you must have a radio to have access to their streams. I hear their streams are free to radio subscribers. XM Radio should try this too. Or the other service should change their policy and make their internet streams available for subscription alone. What have they done to Easy CDDa Extractor
Wow! I got the latest upgrade to Easy CDDA Extractor and, boy, to me, it sounds or looks nothing like the old version. I can only see a couple of tabs; I cannot find a playlist or list of tracts on the disk; I cannot tell where to set up the online database; I cannot even find out how to extractor a song from a CD; and I am lost with this program. What are they doing. they list lots of new things, but the program is becoming almost unusable and of no value to me. Am I missing something. What is the reason for gutting a program the way they have. Once it had an easy way of setting up your preferences, determining whether or not to use check boxes, and just extracting songs was easy. Now nothing. If I am missing something, would someone please tell me how to extract songs from a CD or how to use this rogram. It is ready for the trash if someone don't help me. XM Radio Online and Flash 7
Dear List! Recently, just this past Saturday, I signed up for XM Radio's Online Premium Services, giving me access to their music channels. The problem is that the program seems to rely heavily on Macromedia's Flash Player 7 and the play screen and info are all in "Button Form." I use JAWS 5.1 (they recently upgraded to 6.0) and there is not much I can do with the program now. I am able to get JAWS to read some of the button titles and I can use the JAWS curser to find and click on them with the space bar. Now, I heard that Windoweyes has a feature whereby one can rename or re-order certain graphics into buttons that are readable by the program. Help with OTSDJ and WMP10
Dear List! About Windows Media Player 9/10 Series: Recently I installed Windows Media Player 10 on my system. Every station or streamer who use this program to play their streams seem to work; however, one particular station (www.daytonjazz.com) will not play for some reason. I cannot understand why it is not playing. I click on the link, go to the "listen live" link and press enter, but I only get a clicking sound and no music. Now, on the otherhand, I can move down the page a few links, click on an interview with a certain artist this station made and plays in WMP10, and the stream or link plays. The live link is the only one that does not play. What could possibly be the trouble. I had the same problem with WMP9 series. I get the same problem on my work system (Windows 2000) and both profiles on my system (Windows XP Professional/Service Pack 2). It's iritating and, if someone can answer, this question, please do. OTSDJ: Well, I reinstalled OTSDJ recently and made the necessary updates and clicked on the program (OTSDJ), but there is a static sound that I cannot get rid of. Previously, I went to the Graphics Equalizer window and changed the slider and I got a clean unstatic sound, but now I cannot get rid of it. I think the gtrouble is in the Tools Menu (Graphics Equalizer and Dynamics Processor), but nothing works. If anyone knows which area to do this in, do let me know. The sound is like a scratched record. I know you can get rid of it because I did before, but something has changed and I can't figure it out now. I hope to hear from someone soon on this matter.
