windows media player 10 question
I want to burn music items from my hard drive using windows media player 10. How do I get the program to allow me to choose from a specific directory instead of showing me every piece of music I have? John H -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: sound forge 8.0 help needed
Hi to the list, Let me try and explain this a little better! Before I installed Sound Forge 8.0, any sound file I opened would be played by winamp 5, automatically.13. Since I installed the Sound Forge 8.0 demo, the files are opening in Sound Forge instead of winamp. So, yes, Sound Forge has taken over as my default player. I looked around in Winamp help last night, and did everything it said to insure that Winamp is the default player. The help file did say that some programs would try to assume control, which is exactly what is happening with Sound Forge! At 02:22 AM 6/7/2006, you wrote: Hi What you are saying isn't making much sense here. Winamp will still play your mp3s. The sound forge demo does not take Winamp's ability away to play mp3 files. You just have to purchase the mp3 plugin for sound forge so that you can edit them. Winamp doesn't even fit into the equation here. So don't worry, the sound forge demo has *not* changed your default player. John H -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Re: sound forge 8.0 help needed
I solved the problem by highlighting a file in my music folder, and going in to properties. On the general tab, there is a change button. After entering on that, you're presented with a list of applications to choose from. And yes, sound Forge was on the list! I chose winamp, and now my mp3 and wav files play in winamp, as they're supposed to. John H -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. At 03:32 PM 6/6/2006, you wrote: I've only tried ripping with nero a couple of times and that was a long time ago. Seemed more hard work than CDEX or media player so I didn't use it again. Typically, there are a few common parameters that determine how fast your program will rip music from a CD. * the speed of your CD-ROM * the quality of the output files, the higher the quality the longer the rip. Added to this, if you have jitter correction or image creation as an option, this will extend the rip time * the priority of the rip - generally you have a choice of very fast ripping that stops you doing anything else with your computer or very slow which allows you to carry on using your computer while the rip is in progress with no impact. There is, of course, a happy medium to be had. Regards. Don't completely disagree with your points below - very valid. However, I don't think it gets much easier to rip a CD than placing a CD in the drawer and having it automatically ejected less than 2 minutes later having been ripped to the format of your choice which once set as your default will stick. You're free to do as much or as little with your computer while media player is ripping too. I personally ripped with CDEX for years but was converted over to media player due to CDEX's lack of support for modern formats and, in particular, the format I use most often, lossless WMA. I haven't regretted it. Also bear in mind that the free version of CDEX is ancient now and the current version is not free unlike media player 10. As far as playback goes, try playing a concept album where the tracks run into each other or a live album in both winamp and media player 10. You'll see that media player wins hands down in providing a seemless listening experience. As for quality, it's very subjective but I do think that media player does a better job with WMA than winamp. I suppose that's not a surprise given it's a microsoft player playing a microsoft format? THis is the 4-th question in 1 month i ask which i hope will be answererd. Maybe my questions are to complex or maybe im not getting through. But instead of picking on folks i ask another one. Lets say i have set goldwave or whatever soundrecording software to record from one sound card and have another soundcard as a playback sound device. Is it then possible to hear through the playback device what you are recording from the recording device? A kind of monitor option.
