A Winamp question

2007-05-22 Thread Jon C. Pierson
Hi folks,
I did something to my winamp which has caused it to play only one track at a
time no matter whether I encue or just play files. I have tried just hitting
enter on two files but it stops after the first one.
I don't see a setting for anything like this in the preferences area but on
the other hand, it sounds somewhat familiar.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

RE: RSN To MP3

2007-05-17 Thread Jon C. Pierson
Hi,
If you can play them in Winamp then you can set an output plugin which will
write them to disk as .wav files and then convert them back to mp3.
There is also an .mp3 writing plugin for winamp which I have used this way
as well.

Hi all.

I've got a shed load of oridginal Nintendo and Sega game cartridge
soundtrack rips. From NES, SNES, Sega Master System.

I want to convert these to mp3. I can play them back fine in Windows with a
Winamp plugin. It would be very cool and geeky to be able to play them on
my mp3 player though.

Any thoughts as to what bit rate you'd use for something like this?

Winamp converts them fine, I just need advice on the bit rate that would be
best suited.

Thanks,
Dj paddy.

If the plugin's not registered you should have a button which allows you to
enter a code but it only appears when you choose the custom option.

Hi Jim,
Does SF think perhaps that your mp3 plugin's not registered?
It's a shot in the dark and usually it'd nag you but I've seen it work both
ways where rather then teling you that you had exceeded your encoding limit
and bla bla bla, it just won't let you set custom options for saving an mp3

RE: Batch file renamer

2007-05-13 Thread Jon C. Pierson
I use multiren (multiple file renamer) which was a PC Magazine shareware hit
a few years back. It's good for typing whole titles plus the mp3 or whatever
extention into the box and then numbering away.
It has a creat undo file option which makes one of those old familiar dos
batch files in case of screw-ups.

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good freeware batch file renamer? I will be using it
to rename mp3 files though the file type probably should not matter. There
are many file renamers available. I tried a couple but they turned out to
be trial versions or required making changes in the registry. I thought it
would be safer to get one others are already using and is less likely to
contain malware.

Thanks

RE: Winamp Volume problem

2007-05-09 Thread Jon C. Pierson
Hi,
If you select the Direct Sound output as the winamp output plugin you can
control the volume controls for speech and Winamp independently. Also, make
sure that the EQ isn't turned on and with the pre-amp lowered substantially.
To do this, press alt plus g, control tab to the EQ window and press the
letter n to disable the EQ.

I have a strange issue with the volume in WINAMP that I never used to
have.
In order to get WINAMP volume at a decent level, I need to turn my main
speakers up quite loud. This makes JAWS volume way over the top. I
 decided
to go into volume control and adjust my WAV volume so JAWS would speak
quieter, and WINAMP would be loud enough. Apparently WINAMP isn't
 controlled
by the Master volume, and when I lower JAWS, it also lowered WINAMP to
 where
I could barely hear it. How can I get the WINAMP volume to be acceptable,
and yet still have JAWS lowered enough that it's not yelling at me? I'm
using JAWS 8 and WINAMP 5.32. I'm planning to upgrade to 5.34. I have a
Santa Cruise Turtle Beach sound card, but there doesn't seem to be any
 place
to adjust for volume there. Thanks.

 Vicki

You can do this if you are using JAWS; it is a JAWS feature, NOT a Winamp
feature.

To place the marker, simply press M at the point you want to insert a
marker.
ctrl-shift-m brings up a list of already set markers, and lets you delete
some or all of them.

But I can't seem to recall the command to bring up a list of already set
markers, so you can jump to one of them. H; That's not very useful. Can

RE: CPU usage of Sound Forge vs Goldwave

Hi Kevin,
Try setting a custom swap or paging file size equal to 1.5 times your ram,
in your case, that comes out to 768.
Then defrag the heck out of that bad boy and see if that helps.
I'd also add ram as 512 is a little light for Xp, Jaws and Sound Forge in my
opinion.

Subject: Weird sound problem

Hi listers!
I recently upgraded to Windows XP and since then I have a weird sound
problem I hope someone can help me with.
When there is some stronger system sound or when I play files online (sites
such as Myspace or YouTube) the quality of JAWS gets lower; it's as if it
was in sample rate of 22 kHz instead of 44 kHz. Then when I close the
playing sites or the system sound finishes it gets back to normal. Now I
noticed it also happens when I change the Winamp output to something else
than the DirectSound output: as soon as I start playing a file JAWS quality
gets worse but when I pause or stop it it gets back to normal. I have
Windows XP Professional, SB Live 5.1 and JAWS 4.51; I first thought it was a
JAWS problem and shortly tried version 7 and experienced the same, then I
haven't kept the newer version for now due to the lack of space on my system
HD, also JAWS 7 still doesn't have translations for Czech so I've kept this
older version for now instead. When I had the very same programs in Windows
98 I never had these problems with JAWS, only now that I upgraded to XP; so
I can only suspect it has something to do with the soundcard vs the system
since both versions of JAWS I tried should be compatible with XP, right? Any
ideas if there is some way to fix it?
Thank you very much in advance. In case this is not totally on-topic you can
write me privately, preferably at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Martina

That is probably the simple part.
I am also guessing that I also need a piece of software to select the
channels that are playing at any given moment, and this could have some
accessability issues as the wrong software might make channel hopping
 difficult.

I am using Window-Eyes 6.0 on a machine operating with XP home with 512
 mb
 of ram.
There is plentyof free disk space.

Can you folks give me some direction as to what I need to look for.
 While
I rather spend more than less, my ultimate goal is simplicity of us
preferably with the simplicity I can get now of tapping a few keys or
numbers and getting to the desired channel.

RE: Internal Tripletalk soundcard wireless headphones issue

2007-03-08 Thread Jon C. Pierson
Hi Ann,
I'd check with the manufacturer as to voltages and such as some of these
cards are not meant to handle impedances other than that of a speaker.

Subject: Internal Tripletalk soundcard wireless headphones issue

Hi folks,

I just got a new Tripletalk PCI synthesizer, and boy am I excited. I'm one
of those folk who have never been totally satisfied with the performance of
software speech, especially under serious processor access times. But am
having one minor annoyance with it. Apparently, unlike my very old internal
doubletalk synthesizer, this thing puts out a good amount of juice, and I
can't connect it to the Line-In of my soundcard without experiencing some
serious background noises.

Now, can anyone tell me either of the following. How I can connect the
output of this to my soundcard so I can use my wireless headphones to listen
to it privately from anywhere in the house? Or, b. how I might connect my
wireless headphones to both my soundcard the sound output on this
synthesizer? And, I'd like to do any of the above as cheaply as possible.

I have this nagging feeling that the answer to either will be so simple I'll
kick myself when I receive it.

Thanks.

~Ann

Hi Hank,
The only thing I've found is called XtreMe PCR and is used with the XmPCR
radio which connects to the PC via usb. It works pretty well with JFW.

Great suggestion...This won't help him with XM, so in that case, I
recommend a subscription to XM Radio Online, available at
listen.xmradio.com. I think the trial is three days; not sure what the
monthly fee is since I get it free as a regular XM subscriber...But, you
get a LOT more channels with a real sub than you do with Winamp. I also
recommend using the XStreamXM player instead of the default one on XM's
 site.

Do yourself a favor! Forget about the Winamp library! If you want to play

 a
shoutcast stream, go to the shoutcast web site, find the stream on their

 playing, bookmark it.

Hi. I'm having a hard time playing shoutcast streams using winamp newest
version and the scripts for jaws 7. For example, when I try to play xm
radio, I get an error message and then I can't even close winamp. When
 the
error comes up it highlites the don't send button. The only way I can
 get
anything to play is if I click on the link that says shoutcast. How in
 the
heck do you use these scripts? Please someone, help!.
 Thanks, Joe.

John,
BTW, my nbame is Dana, NOT Donna.

As I mentioned, the URLs appeared immediately *above* their respective
stream names. I know that is confusing, but that is how they are organized
in winamp.bm, from which I copied and pasted them. The entire string above
each stream name, up to, at least, the first question mark, needs to be
plugged into Winamp's location bar. If you still have trouble with this, go
to my Media page:
http://members.cox.net/dsleslie2/media.shtml,
where I have made links out of these URLs; play the streams from there, and
bookmark them for yourself.

I believe these streams will only play in Winamp. You aren't trying to play
them in some other player; are you?

Good luck.

Blessed Be,

Dana

 crashed.
 Any ideas?

Goldwave will do it after you do a search for k-lite-codec and install that.
Then when you open the mp4 filein Goldwave, select all under file types and
that does it.

Could it be that your drive is fat32 and that the temp file has hit the

Hi everyone. For some reason, sound forge (5.0) is telling me, stopped
recording because temporary disk is full, when, in fact there are over 6
gigabytes free. I defragged, chkdsk the drive and it still is happening, not
all the time, but lately, and never in all the years I've used SF has this
ever happened. I wonder why? Should I change to another temporary drive and
see if it continues? I made sure the path was correct in SF and it is.
