Accessible mp4 Video Editing Program
Greetings All, I'm looking for an accessible program to edit mp4 video files. I've been transferring our old Vhs tapes to computer Mp4 video files. I don't need anything fancy, just something I can edit, cut out clips, split etc by listening to the audio on the file. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Lee Mounger
Internet Volume Control
Greetings All, I just purchased a Toshiba laptop using Windows 8 to replace my old workhorse computer. I really like it but I have a problem I hope someone can help me with here. I'm using Jaws 14 but whenever I access audio on the internet meaning radio etc, the audio almost drowns out Jaws completely. I found the system volume controls and to hear Jaws reasonably well, I have to turn the internet volume control down to between 15 and 20% with everything else maxed out at 100%. My problem is, I can't seem to find a way to save the internet volume setting. Whether I use Escape or Alt-F4 to close the volume controls window, the next time I access audio on the internet, the volume is right back at 100% with all the other volumes. I've never encountered this problem before as I've always had multiple sound cards in my computers, one for Jaws and one for recording playing, etc. So, how can I save the internet volume control setting once and for all or what do those of you who have single sound cards do to balance volume so you can stream audio and use Jaws at the same time. Thanks in advance for any help. Lee Mounger To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Onyx 820I, capability question
Greetings and Merry Christmas All, As per the advice on this forum, I bought and love my Onyx 820i. Using the Onyx along with Sonar 8.5 Producer and a Usb Keystation 61, I really like what I can do with soft synths I'm using. So, I have what might be a dumb question or might not be. After performing Onyx operations on sounds coming from Sonar and soft synths and getting something I really like going into my monitors or headphones, can I patch the new sound back into Sonar for recording or is it even possible? If it is, I'm sure it's probably quite simple. Coming from a live performance background and being a relative newbie at recording, I'm still getting a little bogged down with various connections, etc. By the way, forum folks were right on. The Mackie Onyx series seem to be extremely accessible. Don't know if it will fit everybody's needs but it sure looks like it's going to fit mine. Vhs Capture Software
Greetings All, I just purchased the Hauppauge 610 capture device for capturing vhs tapes to avi, mpg files etc to save them. The winTv software that came with it doesn't seem to be accessible and and it doesn't seem to work well with Total Recorder 8.3 audio-video either. Can someone recommend some accessible capture software to try with the Hauppauge or if not, an accessible combination of another capture device and software. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Freedom From The Computer
Hi Listers, A few years ago, I decided that since I was using Jaws and had no need for the screen, why should I have to be tied to the computer to use the computer. Here's what I did. I connected an FM transmitter to the sound card of my computer and now use a small FM radio or my Sansa mp3 player which is tiny and equipped with FM to hear Jaws or anything else from the sound card. Then I bought an RF wireless keyboard with a range of a hundred feet or so. The keyboard is small and light and with a transmitter built in. The keyboard's receiver plugs into the USB port of my computer. With this combination, for probably the last five years, unless I have to load a disc or do something physical on the computer, I compute wherever I want from bed, to the living room, to the kitchen, etc. My only problem is that because it's an RF keyboard, I sometimes have to physically adjust the keyboard receiver's little antenna at the computer depending on where I am in the house. So here's my question. I haven't done anything with Bluetooth and I know some of you are much more knowledgeable about this technology. Is anyone doing the same thing I'm doing with Bluetooth? I think I need a longer range, Class 1, wireless Bluetooth keyboard. Does anyone know where I could buy such an animal? There seem to be plenty of infrared or short-range wireless keyboards out there but the first question from well-meaning sighted computer people is, why would you want a wireless keyboard anywhere too far to see the computer screen, grin. Of course the answer is that you probably wouldn't unless you were a visually impaired person using a screen reader so it's kind of a niche problem. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. The Apple KB is a little on the expensive side, so it will be a kick in the teeth if it doesn't work how you want it to when you get it, but it's something to keep in mind. http://www.apple.com/keyboard/ -- James Scholes http://twitter.com/JamesScholes To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Freedom From The Computer
Hi Chris, Thanks very much for the info. I did some checking this morning and found what seems to be maybe a better RF wireless keyboard than I've got. I'm mainly looking at this setup for a friend of mine who can't walk and although I'm pretty satisfied with how my setup works, it's a lot easier for me to scamper to the computer to make minor receiver adjustments than it would be for him so I want his setup to be better than mine. And then if we get him set up really well, I might have to start looking real sad around the wife and mention the one word she hates to hear me say the most, upgrade. If the iPhone also contains a classs 1 bluetooth adapter then this would explain what James is seeing. In other words, I think this is more a factor of the iPhone than the Apple keyboard. I would guess that if you get a class 1 bluetooth dongle for your PC then you could use any bluetooth keyboard, but it may be that you need a class 1 device on both ends. Re: Sansa e280 16gb Card Problem
Hi Chris, Just got back from out of town. Thanks very much for all the good info. I changed my Rockbox installation from official to daily build and I believe the e280 is now seeing the 16G card. I had a friend verify that the card is formatted fat32 but I don't have a card reader so I guess the next step is to purchase one to load up the card. I travel a lot and I'm loving the move from bulky CD player to the e280. What version of Rockbox are you running? I have a Sansa e280 myself running Rockbox, but I only have a 2G card in it at the moment. I've been thinking of getting a 8G card, but I haven't yet. I tell you this so you know that what I'm saying is based on what I've read and what I understand, and it isn't based on actual experience. If you're running an official version of Rockbox, currently 3.2, then you don't have a USB stack in rockbox, so as you probably know, your Sansa boots into the Sansa firmware whenever you plug it into the USB port of your PC. The Sansa firmware won't work with HC cards, so you won't see your 16G card in the My computer listing on your PC when you plug your Sansa in. So if this is what you mean when you say your card isn't recognized then you have your answer. You should be able to format your memory card and transfer files to it with a memory card reader on your PC and then put it back into your Sansa. With the Sansa running Rockbox, you should then see it in your Files listing. If you're not seeing the card at this point then I'm not sure what the problem is. If you haven't already, I'd suggest formatting the card as FAT32. I'm not sure what FS Rockbox recognizes, but my 2G cards are FAT32. If you're running a daily build then you should have the USB stack in rockbox, and your Sansa shouldn't be booting into the Sansa FW when you plug it into the USB port of your PC, and you should see the memory card in your My Computer listing. At least, this is my understanding. I also think that this USB stack will be included in the official versions of Rockbox shortly. I hope this helps. If not, let me know. You may also want to post your question on the Rockbox mailing list (being sure to follow the list etiquette) or search the Rockbox site for more information.
