Re: Digital recorder info needed

2004-04-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hi Don. I have an olympus ds330. it has a built-in speaker, it comes
bundled with software that I needed sighted help for with only mouse click
then all the rest was accessible and continues to be so. Erasing is easy,
and when all are erased, it beeps. I do not believe you can vary the
compression rate, except that you have 2 modes standard and extended play
and standard is about phone quality, e p lay is old telephone quality. You
transfer the files to your pc via the usb port. You can configure it to
automatically change the files from dss to wav, which is nice. if you want
to hear the quality of standard play, visit the acb radio csun diary and
check out some of the interviews from the exhibit area.

Re: Recording phone interviews on my computers.

2004-04-16 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hi Roger.

I will call you later today, but the set-up in a nutshell is a comrex 2-line
digital hybrid into a macki 1202 mixer. The comrex does all the mix minus
stuff and even trains itself to handle subsequent renulling as necessary. I
found that when I first got it going, it was not as stable for the first ten
calls or so, but not it's like a rock! It's crystal clear on both lines, so
I can have a guest and take calls for the guest as well. I use an Octava
microphone which I also like very well.

Hello listers,
I apologize if this has been previously covered or is off topic but was not
sure where else to post the question.

The subject line says it--I'd appreciate comments on anyone's experience
with Rhapsody which I was considering trying. I want to find out as much as
possible before downloading the trial version. Does it allow for files to
be streamed via Winamp or one of the other players or does it require an
embedded player for this? Are all links and functions accessible with JAWS?
Is it free of ads and spyware or will i be bothered with a lot of other
garbage if I install it? I assume there is a monthly cost for using the
service and then an additional fee for downloads, is this correct?
Finally, is the trial version fully functional and what are the actual costs
per download or use? Sorry for all the questions, but I found the website
rather vague on a lot of these points. I may think of other things I'd want
to know but these are my biggest concerns at the moment. Please feel free
to write me on or off list with your experiences.

Susan

RE: inquiring about Rhapsody

2004-04-19 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Tim, I could not agree with you more, and that was precisely what I did
in my five email which went unanswered. I've worked with many providers
and helped them to achieve basic access, which usually includes labeling
of graphics, but these folks would not respond. I'm hoping to hear
which version you have that is accessible, cuz I'll go get it
immediately and snack on my words while I listen to the finest audio
I've ever heard on the web.

I wish the graphics were labeled but they may not even understand the
problem as a sighted person can look at the screen and see right away
what to do. I think blind people need to remember this when they write
or call. They need to spend a little more time than they do explaining
what software vendors can do to address the problems of blind people and
not just shouting that a software package is inaccessible. As to
inaccessibility, all one needs to do is have someone with some sight sit
down with them and label graphics. Just in case you haven't seen it,
the graphics change a little depending on whether you're in playlist or
cd burning mode.

I tried Rhapsody a couple of months ago and found it a little cumbersome

for me to use, just a personal thing. I'm not sure what features folks
are
seeking, but I absolutely love the Real Music Store. It is, IMHO, fully

accessible and a lot of fun. I am not sure of all the features, as I
use
it to purchase and download music, but some of you might want to give it
a
look.

Hi Tim this is great. I do use Window Eyes but when I tried this, I
used Jaws and only briefly tried it with Win Eyes as a non Win Eyes
user. Now that I know a lot more about Win Eyes, I'll try it again with
Win eyes.

Thanks!

Well, what I had was 2.1 build 0.215 but I did a check for update and
got 2.1 build 0.227. It appears to be as accessible, but you have to do
a few tricks. For instance, if you want to search for a song and you
haven't labeled graphics, and just let me say I'm speaking in
Window-eyes terms as I don't own JFW, you would use your virtual mouse,
go to the bottom of the window, move up by line until something is
spoken (by that I mean
non-graphic) and left click on it. You're then put in a browser window
which you can navigate like normal. If you find what you want and save
the album or track to your library you will be put back in to the first
screen. The thing about the first window is you initiate everything with
the mouse. Let's say you want to pick something out of your library.
First you would find your library list with the mouse keys. Then you
would left click on any artist. After that you can use your regular
arrow keys. You are in a tree view like Windows Explorer. Moving up
and down moves through the artists. When you're on the artist you want,
hit your right arrow twice and you'll be on the list of albums of the
artist you selected. If you haven't saved any albums then you'll be on
a list of tracks by that artist. If you want to add the album or track
to the play list, route your mouse to the pc cursor and do a right
click. There'll be a list of things you can do which you navigate with
the mouse keys. When you get to what you want, say, play now, just left
click on it. Your playlist window is below the library window. I can
only get to it with the mouse keys. You can tell when you get to it
because you'll hear track, then you'll start hearing track names instead
of artists. On any track in the playlist just right click and again
there'll be a list of things you can do with the track or the playlist.
Some things to remember, you need to find the CD burning graphic. The
one to the left or above it will put you back into playlist mode. When
you're in playlist mode, anything you play will be added to the
playlist, so you should clear your playlist once in a while. If you're
navigating a list of albums and hit the right arror twice you'll be in a
list of tracks for the album. Use the left arrow just like Windows
Explorer to close the list.

I don't know if your cd burning software has the capability to first copy to

Re: Questions about audible.com

2004-06-02 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
The books from audible are not mp3's, but you can use goldwave to convert
them to mp3's. Audible uses its own file format, but Sarai is right,
audible is accessible, so long as one knows how to navigate forms and use
one's screen reader's access features.

cddb and winamp

2004-06-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hello. I am running winamp 2.90. A few weeks ago I had a serious crash and
had to reinstall everything. In the p c days, prior to crash days, I had
the cddb installed with winamp. Now when I insert a cd, winamp tells me
that cddb is not installed. Yet, I do not recall ever having installed or
activated that most wonderful feature. If I use cdex to digitize my cd's, I
can access it through their utility but it is not often as good as gracenote
which I had in winamp 2.90 in my goold ol' p c days. What have I failed to
do?

Many thanks in advance!

I have a sony xm receiver which is very accessible. I have a remote with it
like a phone pad with additional buttons. We have one in the car and one in
the house. I also have the pc version attached to my computer and as a
person using both JFW and Window Eyes, I can say that JFW needed scripts Win
Eyes handles it straight out of the box. The titles are abbreviated
because, according to my husband Gary, that is how they appear on the xm
screen itself. Xm is wonderful!

Re: XM Radio

2004-07-14 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hi Robert.

The receivers connect via u s b. There is an antenna that connects to the
back of the small radio. As long as you install the software on the
computer you plan to hook to, you can run it from any computer. I use to
take mine on the road when I was travelling for Pulse Data.

As for fully accessible, I'd say it is certainly accessible enough that you
get all the features you want. There are things I haven't bothered with
such as setting up notifications when your favorite artist or song is on any
channel, but you can do your presets, read the title bar of what is playing,
move from channel to channel and group to group all with glirous Window Eyes
out of the box no sets or scripts.

Mimi, I have not done it for a long time, but it seems to me that all I did

Re: XM Radio

2004-07-14 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Terra,

I'd call them before making that leap because when I was travelling for
BrailleNote, I took my xm and the only place in all the places I went where
I could not get it was inside a friend's house in Revere, MA and that only
because I didn't have the luxury of positioning. I even had it on a cruise
my husband and I took and so long as we were headed toward Mexico along the
Mexican Rivierra, we got it pretty well but when we were turned the other
way coming home, we didn't get it as well.

rhapsody

2004-08-13 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Is anyone still using Rhapsody? Thanks to Tim Grady from this list, I was
using it pretty successfully with Window Eyes. Then, several weeks ago, I
had no choice and had to download the newer version. Since then, my luck
has been dismal. I would appreciate hearing how people manage to get to the
edit box to type in the artist you are seeking. Before, i clicked on the
third occurrence of the word artist in the rhapsody application window, but
that no longer works for me.

any help will be greatly appreciated. If like me folks are having issues
with its access since the new version, maybe we should contact them directly
by mail or phone? If so, let's organize this effort off this list. But
first, maybe I am just missing something and you guys can help me figure it
out.

You can see a trial version of Rhapsody at

www.listen.com

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: the Aviva

2004-08-25 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
You can reach Barry Scheur directly at 617 969 7500. When I interviewed
him on Main Menu, he explained that the original unit was lost by an airline
so they had to start all over again.

Re: Keeping two sound cards enabled at once

2004-09-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Don't know about the jaws end, but Freedom does and they can direct you. As
a window eyes user, all I need to do is select the card to which I want win
eyes to speak by going to my audio tab in the control panel and highlighting
the proper card. then, I simply reboot. that puts win eyes where I want
it.

Then, I select the other sound card, and go to my media players and ensure
that they are all pointing to that second card. works for me like a charm.
I think freedom requires some adjustment to the ini file of some sort or
another and you should be fine.

Good luck!
