Use of two sound cards on a Windows 7 computer with JAWS
Hello: Our client has recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. He has both an internal and external sound card for this computer which he uses for his Karaoke and D.J. work. He currently has JAWS set to use the sound card chip on the mother board. When he boots up and comes to the welcome screen, JAWS speaks and he enters the password and presses enter, but then the computer hangs. When he tries this without JAWS, everything is fine. Any ideas? Oh, by the way, he's using the latest version of JAWS. Thanks. Michael Barber To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

And don't forget that if you buy one of these cartridges, you also have to get the special cable so you can connect them to your USB port on your computer when transferring books or MP3 files to your NLS player. The cartridges come from the American Printing House for the Blind and I believe they're about $12.75. I recommend getting the cable meant to be used for these cartridges from the same place because I think they're less expensive there. Subject: DIGITAL TALKING BOOK PLAYER QUESTION Hello List members, I just received a new digital talking book player in the mail. I have a few questions about it. For starters, this machine can play files from a USB flash drive. What kind of format will those files need to be in an order for this machine to play them? I haven't tried this yet, but can this thing play in stereo? It has a monaural speaker built in to it. But I'm asking about its headphone jack. I have seen some digital playback equipment that had mono speakers built in to them before. But when you plug a pare of headphones in to them, the sound came out in stereo. Is this digital talking book player one of those machines that can do this? Thinks in advance. My best regards. John. PS. Where is a good website to download digital talking books? RE: NLS Digital Player Question
Yes, they do. You have to make sure they're updated to the latest frirmware. Then, you have to get the serial number of your machine. After you have that, go the the RFBD site, log in, go to the authorize daisy player area and choose the NLS player and then follow the prompts, one of which is to enter the serial number. You will then be able to download a generated UAK and load it onto the machine. Then you're ready to play the RFBD books. For whatever reason, being able to play RFBD books on these players has not been widely talked about. I found out when I was getting ready to authorize my Victor Stream. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Denny Daughters Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2009 9:00 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: NLS Digital Player Question Hi guys, Will the new digital players from NLS play the RFBD material? It depends what you want to do. If recording is mainly what you want to do, then I personally think the pocket is your best bet. I personally like the ability to decide whether you want to set your recording volume manually, which can be an asset if you want a really good recording quality, or use automatic recording levels. Also the pocket has certain automatic recording settings for environments like conferences, etc. And it can play material in different formats as well and .txt and html files at this stage. But it is quite possible that the sense can play back more files than the pocket. Remember all of these devices are updated by firmware updates which can be downloaded from the manufacturers' websites so what we may discuss as pros and cons now may not necessarily be true in say 3 months time! -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Brett Boyer Sent: 24 December 2009 02:38 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents So now what are the main differences between the book sense and the plextalk? bb - Original Message - From: André van Deventer andred...@webafrica.org.za To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2009 5:31 AM Subject: RE: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents I have often wondered why you would have the ability to record in .wav
Sam Party DJ Software
Greetings: I've been looking at Sam Party DJ which is from Spatial Solutions for one of our clients. It says it can be used with Karaoke and I wanted to know if anyone here has done this and if there are any tips I should know about. By the way, the software is loaded with lots of shortcut keystrokes which is very helpful. RE: Determining Time of Clip using Goldwave
Tai: If you set a beginning marker at the beginning of your recording and then set and end marker, pressing alt plus shift plus d is supposed to work. I did this in a file just now and it told me the length of my selection. Is this what you're after? Hi Andy, Thanks for your reply. I currently use an Edirol R09 recorder with 2 Shure PG81 unidirectional mics, and I get good results with it. I am hopefully getting a Sony PCMD50 later this year, so that should be fun. What I'm really interested in doing is importing recordings into a file with my narrations inbetween the tracks. Hi Michael. Personally I use Goldwave, but SF is perhaps the more professional and flexible program. I really don't think it matters too much which you use, unless you intend to do some really fancy recording stuff. If all you are talking about is recording the pure sound of trains, then it's a matter of which recorder, rather than which Digital Editor you choose. Loads of us love the sounds of steam trains, passengers and day trips by train. I have an Olympus DS50 and a pair of BSM Binaural microphones and the sound quality is actually very good. Okay, I need to convert my file, which is not MP3 into an MP3 file using goldwave. but apart from that, my Olympus and Goldwave does the job. Finally, there is a lot to be said about keeping things as simple and basic as you can. This, I believe, can be a sign of professionalism. Clarity and simplicity, that's the answer. Very best wishes. Hi everyone, My name is Michael and I am 17 years old. I'm totally blind, and I make audio recordings of trains. I am interested in putting a podcast together but I am not too sure how to do it or what software programs to use. I currently have SoundForge 7.0 on my computer, and it does everything I want it to. Well, just about everything. However, I know that GoldWave is popular with people who are blind, and I am wondering which program would be easier for creating a podcast? I am thinking of putting several of my recordings into this podcast, but I'm not sure how to put the files together in eather program. RE: Accessible Karaoke Software
Actually, my reason for starting this thread was not about a blind person singing karaoke but about a blind person actually operating the software itself where he/she can choose the songs and get them up on the screen. So it's accessible for the operator not the singer. One of the ways karaoke software shows the singer what to sing and when to sing it is by highlighting the word or syllable either in a different color or type font. The only way of doing that in Braille that I could think of would involve using the extra dots, and it seems to me that that would be incredibly hard to follow. But ya know, it might be interesting to try it out, except for the fact that the .CDG files on karaoke disks are just graphics, no text.
