RE: Sound card recommendation wanted
Hi there! I would like to find an external one, that has separate jacks for line-in and headphone. My sound card on my Del Latitude only has one plug, making it very difficult to use like I need to use it. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Robert Nelson Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2014 6:23 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Sound card recommendation wanted Unfortunately, I doubt that you will be able to find a sound card which has Jaws friendly software. However, go to techbuy.com.au and do a search for sound card. There are still several cards made by Creative (even though their model names do their best to hide the nature of their functions). I suggest that you look closely at the Asus XONAR cards. Flash content not playing on my system.
Hi folks! I'm having a lot of issues with flash content not playing on my Del latitude machine. Some flash content does play, like youtube videos. But content from mlb.com/s gameday audio does not play. I have tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer with no success. I have tried installing the latest version of flash, which is now version 14. Anyone have this issue, and if so what did you do about it? Thanks very much!
RE: question about a laptop's audio.
Dave, if it is like my laptop, a Del Latitude, the headphone output should be set to speaker out for the best sound quality. Not overly impressed with the computer speakers themselves. Mine only has one plug that serves as both headphone input, and line In, when you set it for that. I don't like that either. If you're planning to do some work with audio files, or recording into the computer, I would recommend an external sound card. This way you would be able to monitor the input better. That's just my opinion. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dave McElroy Sent: Sunday, July 06, 2014 7:16 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: question about a laptop's audio. Tina, there is a very nice side-by-side comparison of the KNFB reader App, and other OCR apps. You can find it by visiting http://www.coolblindtech.com. I use Siri and Voice Over for most of what I do with a phone--send text messages, make calls. I upgraded to 8 because of an article much like the one in this message which I have just read most if not all of. I'm now using 8.0.2. I have had enough problems with VO and Siri that I re-installed 8.0.2. Some slight improvement after that but not much. The problem I have in particular is the inability to place a call or send a text message reliably. To me, that, and not the bells and whistles, is why I got the phone. Whether my experience is typical I cannot say. Nor can I say whether it's because of my 16-G iPhone 5. But, unless you really need the bells and whistles, I'd be somewhat cautious about the upgrade. RE: station program accessibility
I would recommend three programs for station automation. Station Playlist is the best one that I have heard of to date. I have a friend who operates an Internet radio station using it. RE: SiriusXM online
Go to the following web-site: http://www.siriusxm.com Then, click on the listen on-line link. You may get an option to try the new beta player. Click on this option, and the new player will pop-up. You must have an on-line account to be able to listen to the channels on-line. Once you have logged in, you will see the new player. Granted this is a beta version, and it may be a little clunky. It has been for me. Across the top of the page, you have several options that are all clickable. They are not links, but if you use your arrow keys, you can still click on them by pressing enter. You have, search, channels, recent, me, favorites etc. When you select channels, then the page refreshes. If you scroll down, you will see the list of categories. Let's say you want to listen to music. Find where JAWS reads Music clickable, and press enter. When you do this, scroll down, and you see the different types of music categories, like pop, rock, country etc. Select the category you want, and then press enter. The list of channels under that category pops up. Just scroll to the one you want to listen to, and press enter. Now if you want to change channels, go to the channel clickable option and click it. Then repeat the process above. Question about meta data displaying in Winamp using JAWS and a braille display.
Hi folks! I'm wondering if someone can help me with an issue I'm having. I have a friend who wants to see the metadata information on his braille display using Winamp. He says JAWS reads it to him, but the braille display is not showing him the information even though JAWS reads it. Is there a way to make this happen?
RE: Noice canceling headphones.
I would recommend the Bose OE Sound Link headphones. This is the next model of Bluetooth headphones that Bose has made. I use them, and I like them. I will point out one issue that I seem to have with mine though. The delay in sound from my phone to my headphones is sometimes hard to deal with. Other than that, I think they really sound good, and may give you what you're wanting. Also, you can pair them with more than one device at a time, which is a real advantage. I have an iPod and an iPhone. If I'm listening to something on my iPod for example, and my phone rings, I can answer the call, and when I'm done switch back to my iPod without any major issues. Pretty cool in my humble opinion. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Anders Holmberg Sent: Friday, April 24, 2015 5:26 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Noice canceling headphones. Hi! Sadly my Bose ae headphones does not have a noice canceling feature. This drives me nuts especially when i go by car or bus, even though they are closed headphones. I still hear the hum from the car or bus. So what i want is headphones which are closed and noice canceling and bluetooth 4.0. Any recomendations appreciated. I’d rather use bluetooth than a wired headphones. So Dane and others come on and help me! /A
RE: CD Problem
Hello! I have had this problem before, and it all had to do with the type of CD drive I was using. When I used my HP laptop, several CDS simply could not be read, so I could not rip any tracks from them. Now I'm using a Dell. Recently I tried to rip tracks from the problematic CDS, and was successful in doing so. Just sharing with you my experience. It may be something this simple. In my case, if the CD doesn't play using anything, then I cannot rip any songs from it. I always attempt to play it first. I hope this helps! -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of roger.so...@virgin.net Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 2015 3:07 AM To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: CD Problem Good Morning A while ago I decided to scrap all my music CD’s and store them onto my computer. I never share any of my music it’s entirely for my own enjoyment. As I’m a jazz fan my wife, a few years ago, bought me a collection from Time Life of 12 double disc album called Classic Jazz. They are wonderful and a joy to play but, unfortunately, can not be played in the PC. This just will not recognise them which means I cannot move them into the PC memory with the other music. I have always thought this was because of some DRM protection but I tried again today and I'm wondering it it’s for another reason. Ripping DVD's.
Hello. I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend who would like to burn his DVD collection onto a hard drive. I'm wondering which program does this the best, and is the most accessible using JAWS.
RE: ripping DVD'S
Can I ask you where you found the tutorials? -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane Trethowan Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2015 5:31 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: ripping DVD'S Hi! Decided to have a go at doing this with VLC Media Player for Windows, found a very nice tutorial on the subject. Firstly if you’re using Window-Eyes and you wish to have a go at doing this then I suggest you forget it, by default Window-Eyes won’t even read the dialogue boxes and thus you won’t be able to select the information you require. I don’t know about JAWS as I’ve not had time to explore the various options in VLC for ripping/converting but I have had time use NVDA and it worked quite well. ** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave the rest of the halfwits in this world behind.
Using a virtual audio cable.
Hi folks! Wondering if anyone here can help me use a Virtual audio cable. I want to split JAWS into one side of my headset, and have my computer sounds on the other side. Is this possible?
RE: stereo mix question for a friend
You may want to tell your friend to consider the virtual audio cable program. This seemed to work well for me when I tried it out. It does cost money, but you can try it first. The only problem with the trial is every few seconds, a female voice can be heard saying "Trial". -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Michael Amaro Sent: Tuesday, July 14, 2015 3:08 PM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: stereo mix question for a friend Hello Listers, I have a friend, that is running windows 7 64 bit. RE: SV: Apple's iPhone 7 WILL dump the headphone socket | DailyMail Online
I use the Bose OE Sound Link headphones, and the latency is not good at all. There is quite a delay that is annoying. That is why I still use my trusty analog headset for now. I haven't figured out a way to improve the latency. I wish I could, because I want to rid myself of as many connections and wires as possible. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Hamit Campos Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2016 7:41 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: SV: Apple's iPhone 7 WILL dump the headphone socket | DailyMail Online Oooo harsh.
