RE: Can't do streaming audio with WMP.
You've probably got Winamp installed? Here's a little trick I discovered. I don't know why this works, but it does. Here's what you do. Get into Winamp preferences, then file types. Now tab to the button that reads none and hit enter. Now tab into the list view of file types and select only mp3. OGG and m3u. to play. Your file will now launch Windows Media Player and play fine. Real streams
Is there any way I can listen to real streams using winamp? I know there used to be TARA, but I've lately tried the new winamp with a dot RAM file and it won't play. You'd think surely after all this time Wimamp would play real media streams such as Radio 1 and Radio Scotland? Or is winamp only good for mp3 and ogg and the like. Peter -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Larry N Sent: September 4, 2005 11:43 PM To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: explorer won't permit playing of .pls or .asx files. Hi. I'm having trouble opening .asx and .pls files from within Internet explorer. The only option that I receive is to save the file to the desktop, and explorer doesn't want to recommend that because it claims that the file is either corrupted or has an incorrect file type. This claim is questionable, because it prompts me with the same message no matter the source of either file type. Further, when I "save target as" and open the stream in question from the desktop, it works just fine. Given the fact that I like Internet Explorer about as much as some folks in this group like Real Player, what I would really like to do is switch to a non-Microsoft browser. However, since WindowEyes and Jaws only work with IE, it would seem that I'm stuck with it. So, does anyone have any idea of how I might go about getting IE to stop vetoing .pls and .asx files? One other thing, I downloaded Winamp 5.1 the other night and the problem seemed to start right after that. But if Winamp 5.1 were at fault, why would that affect .asx files which play in Windows Media? Any thoughts? RE: gigs, megs, megabytes
Just two more mentions. Why would anyone want to store CD Audio or cda files on their computer. That doesn't make sense. A cda audio file takes up tons of room compared to an mp3 file. There's no difference to the quality as far as I can tell. Also, I wouldn't create and store ogg files. You can burn a data album of mp3's from your computer and play it in many home CD and DVD players, Sony Discman etc. But you can't burn a data disc of ogg files and do the same. Fun With Your PC Audio.
Hi all, Let me share with you a little of the fun I've been having these past few days. What I've been doing is opening WinMX and, in the two edit fields, I have been entering the name, Karaoke, pronounced, Kary oki. When I do this I get about 4 thousand different types of Karaoke files to down load. These files are much like mp3 files, only I guess they are larger in size. I believe they are larger in size because they are video files with the extension of mpg, not mp3. Anyway, what these files give you is a video of the artist as he is singing the song. Lets say you downloaded Frank Sinatra singing New york New York.. The file would open in Windows media player, that's fine because, as I've said, it's a video, or mpg file. But at the bottom of the screen, because it's a karaoke file, you will get the words or lyrics to the song. This is really cool if you start to fool around with it. And here's how you fool around with it to have fun. These mpg or Kari oki files are broken into two parts, the left hand speaker, and the right hand speaker. The right hand speaker contains the vocals or the words to the song, the left speaker contains the music to the song. If you bring up your sound volume control, you can turn down the volume to the words by moving the balance to the left, or bring the words up to the foreground by moving the balance to the right . You can now search for the lyrics to that song on the internet and learn them off by heart. Practise learning the words along with the music on the downloaded karaoke file by moving the balance to the left or right to bring up the music and or vocals. Think on how you can now be a hit at your local pub on karyoki night. But what a way to have fun with your PC Audio. Any questions on what I've mentioned? Otherwise Scott, there's something else you can try. Get into the CD via windows explorer, highlight one of the files, which probably has an extension of cda, that is, C D A. hit the right windows key to open a pull down menu. Select open with. Now select choose program and hit enter. From the list provided select Winamp. This isn't very clear, but you should get the idea as you go along. Mp3 music on a DVD. Now there's an idea. I imagine if this is possible then you could perhaps contain an artists complete discography on one DVD? I'm assuming a DVD has more than 1 Gig of space, otherwise you'd just place the discography on a regular CD. Which is fine if you only have a discography of 8 albums or so. But if an artists discography amounts to some 15 albums, then a DVD with the space of perhaps 2 Gigs would certtainly be the way to go. Now get into your list view of preferred file types and hit the spacebar on Mp3, M3U and OGG. Select no other file types. Now try to stream your internet audio. Subject: mlb's game day audio Hi all, Over the past couple weeks and especially the past three days, I have been experiencing trouble using Major League Baseball's Gameday Audio. Here's what I've been doing to listen. I will go to the Gameday Audio page which I have saved as a favorite. There I will select the link for the radio station broadcasting my team. Then I have to log in, entering user name/password info. Once I've done that, a window pops up displaying the MLB media player. The problem I've been encountering is that the audio just simply won't begin. There are no errors. So, I tried to change my settings by going into the preferences section. Here I selected the second radio button which I believe chooses the MLB media player, then saved my changes. Still nothing. I returned to preferences and selected the first radio button, which I believe is Real Player. When I saved that change, the audio began ... for about five minutes, then a real player dialog comes up telling me about a time out of some kind ... network difficulties and all that jazz. This sequence of events has occurred numerous times for me over the past couple weeks, and the latter part of this week I have been unable to get anything going. Anybody have any ideas for me?
