CDex and Exact Audio Copy (free) are two great examples of what it is that you
are looking for (links below).

CDex | Free CD to MP3 converter, ripper, FLAC, M4A, WMA, OGG, CD extractor:

CDex 1.77 Portable released | CDex:

ExactAudioCopy (EAC) is a great piece of software that really gives the user
many options about the specifications of whatever it is that's being ripped.
Exact Audio Copy is freeware, free for non-commercial use[4] and highly popular
among audiophiles for its high accuracy and ability to rip severely damaged
audio CD's.

RE: A Victor Stream Query

2017-09-01 Thread Smiling?
There are three types of resets.

The first, and simplest, is to hold down the Power or On/Off button on the
stream, with the
stream off. Hold it down for about fifteen or twenty seconds. This will
result in the Stream beeping twice, as if it is starting twice. This is
exactly what it is doing. The second time it starts, it will have reset.

The second way to reset the Stream is, with the stream off, hold down the
Bookmark key, the number five key, and with these two buttons held down,
press and hold the On/Off or Power button on the Stream until the Stream
comes on. This is called a Profile Reset. This will result in the loss of
all bookmarks in any books you are reading.

The third type of reset is the most drastic. It is called a Factory reset,
and will result in all keys for BARD, Learning Ally, etc. being removed from
your Stream. In this reset, with the Stream off, press and hold down the
number two, six and eight keys until the stream comes on. The Stream will
come on, and you will have a menu from which to choose. You will press the
number two key until it says Factory reset. This is the most drastic of the
three types of resets.

RE: Issue with Buzz in Radio Recordings

2017-08-29 Thread Smiling?
If you seem to not get this buzz as you put it when you are recording whatever
from your iPhone, it must be something specifically with either the digital
radio or some routing of the cables involved. Try moving the cables around and
see what comes of it because sometimes certain cables crossing paths can cause
noise depending on the quality of the shielding or lack thereof.

Subject: Issue with Buzz in Radio Recordings

Hi. For a long time now, I have noticed that I get buzzing in
recordings from my digital radio and tape recorder, even though using
the same set-up (2x RCA phono connectors in my mixer to 1x 3.5 mm jack
in the audio device in question) works perfectly when using my iPhone
to record. I'm using GoldWave 5.65 (I know it's not the latest
version) and, although I've tried all of the hiss/hum removal options,
I can't seem to get rid of all of it. The best result that I got was
when I used Stereo Center to keep just the channel with the least
(almost hardly any) buzz and then put that channel into a mono mix.
However, it still didn't remove the whole hiss and, of course, it lost
a lot of the bass as a result of removing the other channel. I've
also tried buying a brand new lead but I'm still getting the same
results (at least, I've trialled it with the digital radio and am
still getting a lot of buzz, which I knew was going to happen as soon
as I plugged it in because I could hear it in my headphones via the
mixer).

So, does anybody please know why this might be happening with two
devices but not with my phone, even though the radio is digital (so
it's not a matter of using a mono device)? Also, does anyone know of
settings/processes that I can run with GoldWave or another piece of
software to successfully remove everything, or am I just going to have
to accept things as they are?

Many thanks in advance for any help, Danny

There's no such thing as a perfect SD card. The point? Is that there will be
lemons so to speak regardless of the manufacturer, name etc. the second gen
Victor will handle any SDXC card thrown at it regarding capacity. The
highest I've heard used to date is the 512GB PNY SDXC which last I checked
was at $190.99. there are a decent amount though using the 256GB SDXC PNY

So the size is entirely up to your individual budget or lack there of. I

RE: VRS & Internet Radio

2016-10-26 Thread Smiling?
The Victor second gen is other than sitting at the PC, the only streaming
device I use and I've never heard of only 35 presets. The presets are
limited to either you taking the time to find and save the presets or, you
installing whatever playlist M3U's etc that you've put together yourself,
but 35 is news to me. Note: just because I've never heard of 35 being the
limit, certainly doesn't mean that it's not the case.

Stations will slip in and out from time to time no different than most
streaming devices. So it's entirely up to you as are most other things

RE: Recommendations for a Large Capacity SD Card for my VRS?

2016-10-26 Thread Smiling?
There's no such thing as a perfect SD card. The point? Is that there will be
lemons so to speak regardless of the manufacturer, name etc. the second gen
Victor will handle any SDXC card thrown at it regarding capacity. The
highest I've heard used to date is the 512GB PNY SDXC which last I checked
was at $190.99. there are a decent amount though using the 256GB SDXC PNY
card as well. I myself am only using a 128GB card and haven't filled that up
yet, but I am not one who hangs on to books etc. like most seem to.
So the size is entirely up to your individual budget or lack there of. I
myself would go with the PNY cards and choose whatever size fitting your
comfort level with the cost. Amazon is a great place to go and
look/purchase.

Subject: Recommendations for a Large Capacity SD Card for my VRS?

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a large capacity card to store a large quantity of
OTR shows encoded in MP3 format on. I'm sick of swapping 64 GB cards for
listening to various genres saved on several SD cards. Just want one big boy
card to put the majority of them on.

What is the largest capacity SD card the Victory Reader Stream can handle?
Also what is the best brand to buy that will last the longest period of
time?

Thanks for any recommendations.

RE: Daisy Player

2016-09-11 Thread Smiling?
This is simply just a list of Daisy players that RNIB put together that I
thought may help whomever of you find informative. there are Desktop players,
Portable players (which I've copied and pasted below) and Computer software
players.

Buy a DAISY player from RNIB | RNIB | Supporting people with sight loss:
http://www.rnib.org.uk/services-we-offer-reading-services-rnib-audio-books-service-talking-books/buy-daisy-player-rnib

Portable players

If you want to fit a large amount of audio content in your pocket the these
small, lightweight players can be easily carried with you wherever you go. They
all use SD cards for storage and you will generally need to use a computer in
order to copy your content to the card. All portable DAISY players have these
common features:
•play various audio file types - DAISY, MP3 and WAV
•listen to text files read out with the text-to-speech (T T S) software, with a
choice of male and female voices
•microphone, speakers and headphone jack

Milestone

The Milestone is the smallest and lightest DAISY player on the market. There
are three different models but all feature the same simple layout with five
buttons arranged in a cross with a button in the centre and a mode button on
the top edge. These tactile keys and simple layout help ensure you hit the
right button every time.

The Milestone 212 is primarily a book and music player and is one of the
easiest to use portable players.

The Milestone 312 adds an FM radio, one gigabyte of internal memory, a clock,
timer and alarm. You can also manage appointments and set reminders by adding
Milestone Agenda software.

The Milestone 312 Pro adds Speakout which enables you to record voice labels
for items around your home and office.

You can also use the Milestone to work out what colour something is with the
optional Milestone Fame colour detector.

Plextalk Pocket (PTP)

Listen to web-based radio stations by using the built-in Wifi to connect to the
internet. The Plextalk Pocket has a number key pad providing shortcuts to menu
functions, bookmarks as well as arrow keys for navigation. The ability to
record in DAISY format makes it perfect for education and work. You can add
headings during a lecture so you can quickly and easily navigate the audio when
revising. Available in two colours; black with white buttons and white with
black buttons.

Plextalk Linio Pocket

The Plextalk Linio Pocket is very similar to the original Plextalk Pocket both
in design and adds a calendar, alarm and 8GB of internal memroy.

BookSense

The BookSense is compatible with the widest range of formats enabling you to
listen to content from the widest selection of providers. The BookSense range
all have FM radio and a dedicated time button. There are three models available
- BookSense T50, BookSense T50XT and the BookSense DS.

The red BookSense T50 has a number key pad and arrow keys for navigation.

The white BookSense T50XT has the same key layout as the T50 but also has four
gigabytes of internal memory and Bluetooth so you can listen to your music and
books using wireless headphones.

The BookSense DS also has Bluetooth and four gigabytes of internal memory but
also has a high quality OLED screen. Its number key pad has well defined,
tactile buttons.

Blaze ET & EZ

New Victor Reader Stream

The Victor Reader Stream 2 is roughly the size of a pack of playing cards and
is the largest of the portable players. Its number key pad has well defined and
raised tactile buttons.

Make sure that your Winamp main window is open by using the keystroke Alt+W or

I don’t know how, but for some reason, the alt-3 key in my Winamp has stopped
working. I know it worked until very recently, because I use it fairly often to
edit the tags of files I download. But it doesn’t work now. I can still go into
the menu, and it does still say that I can use alt-3 to view the file info, but
alt-3 doesn’t do anything now.
Does anyone here know how I can get it back?
Thanks very much.

Okay, I've taken a look at the specs and driver size doesn't appear to
be mentioned so sorry I can't directly answer your question.

Whilst on this subject if you're going to buy a pair of these cans for
music then you'll be a little disappointed so if its music you're after
then look somewhere else.

On the other hand if chatting is your thing - or you're going to be
using a headset for a good part of your day - then these Senheiser cans
are brilliant, so lite to wear and completely open so your ears stay cool.

The Microphone on this headset is the best I've heard on a headset thus far.

I received these around an hour and a half ago and - for the money - you
do get great bang for your buck in great sound from the headphones
themselves and a very good microphone - the best I've heard from a
headset thus far -.

Firstly, the audio is not the type of audio you'd get from the B P7 or
any other audio phile type headphones we've discussed here but it
certainly isn't too bad and should satisfy most, convenience and comfort
are the ingreedients here.

The headset can be worn for hours on end and you can move about quite
freely given the long leac which comes into the left hand can.

The microphone is here too and it folds away and unfolds with a
satisfying swivil.

The build of the microphone boom is excellent and adjustment seems to be
finite meaning that close alignment to your mouth is certainly possible
and the microphone is a sensitive one so adjusting too close to your
mouth will cause distortion and so, a little bit of testing will be
required here but again that's no problem as Skype for example offers a
"Test Call" facility so you can run as many tests as you require.

The headset comes with an adapter so it can be used with your iPhone or
Android device without a problem, another great selling point for this
headset.

The headset isn't as light as the Plantronics Audio 478 but its a
different design and overall a far better headset.

So now the question is does Senheiser make a USB version of the PC320?
If so I'll be a buyer of the USB version too.

And yes before I forget I should mention the plug configuration. The PC
320 comes with 2 3.5MM minijack plugs, one for the microphone and one
for the speakers so it can be used with most computer systems around
today. The supplied adapter will allow the headset to be used with a
modern Mac, iPhone etc.

RE: Seeking Speaker Recommendation

2016-02-17 Thread Smiling?
I went and looked this up because I thought I remembered the sub being a
unique size. This is just a piece of the review from Maximum PC (URL below):

 The Z623 is a 2.1-channel system equipped with a 200-watt amplifier that
delivers 35 watts to each of the satellite speakers and 130 watts to the
sub. The satellites have a single driver each--a 2.5-inch dome with an
aluminum phase plug--while the subwoofer utilizes a seven-inch pressure
driver with a bass port in its cabinet. As is typical in this category, the
satellites have hard-wired cables that plug into the sub, where the amp is
located.

Hello again Brian and fellow listers,

You can convert m4v files and others quite easily by going to:

http://www.zamzar.com

They can convert m4v files for you. The only downside to using this site, is
that if you have lots of m4v files, you'll have to upload them one at a
time. All you have to do, is go to the above site, upload an m4v file,
select what format you'd like it to be converted to, type in your email
address then press upload. Within a matter of minutes, you'll receive an
email from the site with a link leading to the file in accessible format
that you can download to your computer. Hope this helps. Oh by the way, it
doesn't cost anything to use this service.

Change the Sound Card specifically for JAWS.
To gain focus on JAWS use the Insert+J keystroke.
Now arrow to Utilities submenu...
And arrow down to Sound Card submenu...
And change the selected sound card to be used for JAWS. I am sure that it is
still left to the default card (which is what Windows makes the USB mic
whenever it's installed)

Rich,

That's a good idea to check what you suggested. I'm doing the
troubleshooting remotely and the next time we talk I'll ask him for more
details about the mic. Thanks for the idea.

Seeing as nobody responded, here is what I've found regarding the AutoTrim

In the 32bit GoldWave version 5.70 the option called Autotrim is available.
In version 6.18 this option seems no longer available, or has this option

Might any of you know what this option may have been renamed to within the

Sounds like you were using your Yeti to record this podcast. You might want
to change the pickup pattern being used from stereo to another, this way you
will be centered rather than off to either the left or right. Only giving
this suggestion due to your being off to the left within this latest

Yeti Knob Positions

2015-11-20 Thread Smiling?
Switch settings when you are actually facing the back two knobs on the Yeti.

Top knob is microphone gain.

Bbottom knob/switch (Multiple pattern selection knob):
1. Stereo. When switched all the way to the left (facing it).
2. Omni-directional. Next position to the right.
3. Cardioids.
4. Bi-directional.

RE: Yeti Knob Positions

Yes, there are as you said two more items that we can use on the front side of
the Yeti. The bottom is a pot (volume knob) for the 3.5mm jack on the bottom of
the unit itself for the realtime headphone jack and the button is the Mute
toggle button. There will also be a Blue or Yeti (or maybe both) decal above
the mute button.

Thanks for that helpful informN.

There are another 2 controls found on the underside of the blue Yeti, what
appears to be a Master output volume control and a mute button for the
microphone.

I received my Audio Technica USB Dynamic microphone too Yesterday though I’ve
done little testing with this yet but it does look like a most formidable beast
to have in a studio setup and most versatile of the XLR and usb iputs along
with the headphones output.

I did some fiddling with the microphone and made some tiny recordings but my
heart wasn't in the game right at that moment, Murphy’s Law clearly states
that one should have an ear infection just when one is clearly having so much
fun and needs the use of their ears to continue with the work of setting up the

Monday when I next visit my Specialist, thank Goodness for the Focus 40 Braille

yeti Ultimate USB microphone for professional recording

Congratulations on your purchase of The Yeti, the most advanced and versatile
multi-pattern USB microphone roaming the wild today. The Yeti is the ultimate
tool for creating amazing recordings, no matter what the source or environment.
Best of all, this Yeti can capture anything! The Yeti features Blue’s
innovative
triple capsule array, allowing for recording in stereo or your choice of three
unique patterns, including cardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional, giving
you recording capabilities usually requiring multiple microphones.

The Yeti utilizes a high quality analog-to-digital converter to send incredible
audio fidelity directly into your computer, a built-in headphone amplifier for
zero-latency monitoring, and simple controls for headphone volume, pattern
selection, instant mute, and microphone gain located directly on the microphone
so you are always in control of your recording. The Yeti’s exceptional
performance and fidelity have earned it the distinction of being the first THX
Certified Microphone, a validation of Yeti’s incredibly low distortion, high
fidelity, and balanced frequency response. There are no drivers to install —
simply plug the Yeti into your PC or Mac, load up your favorite recording
software, and record something amazing.

Getting to know your Yeti

Triple Capsule Array • Three condenser capsules in an innovative configuration
to enable great recordings in most any situation.

Multiple pattern selection • You can quickly select from each of Yeti’s four
pattern settings (stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional) by simply
rotating the pattern selector knob. See pages 12-19 for more details and pattern
 suggestions.

Microphone gain knob
• Use this knob to control the gain (sensitivity) of Yeti’s microphone
elements. Begin recording with this knob centered. If you are experiencing
digital distortion with a very loud sound source, simply decrease
the gain counterclockwise. If you desire higher sensitivity, simply increase
the gain by turning clockwise.

Blue logo • The Blue logo indicates the front of the microphone.

Set screws • Turn each of these knobs clockwise to tighten and secure the
microphone at the desired angle. To remove the microphone from the included
desk
stand, simply unscrew both set screws entirely while supporting the microphone
with your hand. Carefully remove the Yeti microphone by lifting directly up and
out of the desk stand.

Mute button/status light • Press this button to mute the output from the
microphone. When the mute button is flashing, the microphone is muted and no
signal will be sent to the computer. To end microphone muting, simply press the
button again. The status light will illuminate solid during normal operation to
indicate proper function.

Headphone volume control • Easily control the volume of Yeti’s headphone output
by adjusting the volume knob — no need to click through software menus to find
the right headphone volume.

Headphone output • Yeti includes a standard 1/8” (3.5mm) headphone jack for
monitoring and playback. You can use Yeti’s headphone output to monitor your
microphone recording in real-time, without latency delays. Or, use the Yeti’s
headphone amplifier to reproduce music, movies, or tracks from your computer
with the incredible fidelity and detail provided by the dedicated headphone
amplifier and high quality digital-to-analog converter.

USB connection • Yeti connects to your computer with one simple USB cable. Plug
the mini USB (small connector) into the USB port on Yeti, and plug the other
end
into an available USB port on your computer. To perform at its best, Yeti
should
be plugged directly into a powered USB port, so avoid connecting through USB
 hubs or other USB multipliers.

Standard thread mount • If you would like to mount your Yeti to a standard
microphone studio mount, remove Yeti from the included desk stand and thread in
a standard threaded mount for maximum versatility.

Yeah, it's their logo I believe is what you are referring to when you say dial,
no?

Below that logo is the mute toggle button. If this is what button you are
referring to when saying dial. Then yes the dial that you are referring to is
the mute toggle button.

I see the dial you’re talking about but I think its just an emblem right? I
don’t think it does anything in particular.

Thanks for mentioning the Headphone Level Volume out and that’s what I should
have said too as its a better description.

When you output to the Blue Yeti via your computer or take input from the
microphone from your computer you can independently adjust the input and
outputs irrespective of what the headphone level volume is doing.

I've found that the 64bit version is quicker, but I most of the time

the editing with the 64bit version 6.15 is just inconsistent for me, which
is why I am for the most part still using the 5.70 version.

Greetings,

5.07.

John, did you **really** mean

5.07.

or

5.70?

5.70 is the last version which will work for WindowsXP systems, 5.07 is a
very early version of GW V5, it works with windowsXP and windowsME but not
with any other windows system.

also 5.07 does not have all the access facilities introduced from 5.25
onwards.

If you are **really** using 5.07, this is probably why auto-scroll-lock
behaves differently.

Further answer to a question, the new GW scripts **only** work with systems
**after** WindowsXP they are created for GW V6.anything, only a 64-bit
program is now available hence the scripts are set up accordingly.

Greetings,

If you want to save parts of a file but not the whole as individual items,
select each area in tern, by marking start and end with start and end
markers, then in the file menu there is a save selection as, give it a name
and save. If you require to save the whole file as tracks, such as if
you've a concert and would like to save each item as a track, this is when
the cue-markers become useful.

In this case, you ensure first you are at the start of the file, once you
begin to work with cue-markers, you cannot make any changes to the file, so
ensure first, all edits Etc. are finished and the original file saved.
also, be aware it is always wisest to work with files uncompressed, i.e when
still in their .wav (or other) formats, not .mp3 or other compressed types.
The more processing a file has undergone, i.e compresion and de-compression,
the more sound degredation will occur and once quality has been lost, it
cannot be retrieved.

So, having made sure the file is as you want it, go to it's start and insert
the first cue-mark, control with q. Now go on through the file, stopping
where the next cue-mark is to be placed, I always first make sure by placing
a start marker i.e left bracket then ensuring cursor is at start marker by
pressing my home key, then issue control with q. Continue until you've
reached the start for the last track and issue the control with q.

Now, you are ready to split the file into it's items.

In the edit menu, go to the cue-markers function which I think is open menu
and cursor up to the sub-menu, arrow right into the submenu and down to the
split file. Note, you can change cue-markers as there is a list of the ones
you have set but I strongly advise keeping it simple for now, go to the
split file within the menu. I cannot remember the tabs here, think they are
self-explanatory, eventually you will find a save button, enter on this and
ensuring you save into a location you want, allow it to work.

You should end up with a set of tracks, what their names will be depends on
how you process these tabs, but I tend to make then save as Track nnn (the
first being 001) into a folder set aside for such matters.

Then (I use Winamp) play the folder ensuring you have saved what you
intended, if happy, close the file from which you saved the tracks but
unless you want to keep the cue-markers, don't save the file.

Cue-markers cannot be saved in a file other than, so far as I am aware, .wav

still in their .wav (or other) formats, not .mp3 or other compressed types.

Cue-markers cannot be saved in a file other than, so far as I am aware, .wav
format, if you try and save them, GW will warn you no way! but they can be
saved in a file of the same name if I recall rightly, with the exdtension of
".cue" this will happen in the same folder in which the file from which you
extracted the tracks, is saved.

Remember, I am using GoldWave V5.70, the last which works with WindowsXP how
V6.anything differs, as of now, I know not for though I have V6.14, have not
yet installed on my W7 machine.

RE: where do I find options for recording off of a USB device using goldWave?

1. F11 to get to control properties.
2. then control tab until you get to the device tab.
3. tab through to see whatever it is that you are after selecting and
recording from (keep in mind, you will need to have the device you are
interested in recording from, plugged in).

Re: Media Player 11?

2006-11-11 Thread Smiling?
Hey Chris,
I am using WinAmp pro to burn, and I'm not having any troubles, I am using
the scripts though (which I'm sure you know, makes it quite a bit easier).
I downloaded the scripts from the jfw lite site, they're for versions jaws 5
6 but, they made it much much easier for me.
I am using WinAmp pro version 5.31.
Hope this helps,
Jeremy

Re: Media Player 11?

2006-11-11 Thread Smiling?
Chris,
This is how it is done if using the scripts. First, open up WinAmp then,
you will hit alt L, to open up the library (where all of the ripping and
burning selections are located) after that, it's going to ask you which
drive it is that you are wanting to use, given that you have more than one
drive. Select the drive which you prefer then tab down to add... then, it
will bring you to files... or folders..., if you are wanting to add just
some various files then you would select files but, if you know which
album/folder it is that you are wanting to burn then select folder... Then,
it's going to place you in a treeview and you'll just need to select which
album/folder it is that you are wanting to burn then tab down to ok.
After you select the album and hit ok, it'll then ask which speed etc. When
ready just hit burn and the rest will be history
Hope that this helps,
Jeremy
