The Bose campanion 2 speakers are adiquate for
computers I have had them and they don't take up very much room on your
desk. They cost about a hundred dollars.

Re: looking for wifi headphones

2015-01-06 Thread Brian Sackrider
Try plantronics headphones they sound great for music in stereo iI don't
about how they would sound with the tv audio they have flat controls
like pannels that you push. The mike is not that great but if you don't
need it they should be just fine. I like the corded version of the
plantronics as I am not afand of wireless devices but thats just my
opinion They cost about 100 dollars I hope this helps.

Beware a few things.
First, WiFi headphones aren't actually WiFi. Wireless,
yes. WiFi,
definitely not as they have no need to join a WiFi network.
Secondly,
Sony wireless headphones have a 1 year parts warranty, but
only ninety
days labor, and the labor is important as the switches in
the headbands
tend to fail. Sony wireless headphones do not have a
conventional power
switch, rather, they turn on when you place the headphones
on your head,
and that switch goes bad. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
The best maker of wireless headphones, and honestly the
only other
major manufacturer, is Sennheiser. Look for them.

to hear it, also he would like some that can filter out a

Again they must be wifi and not cable as it would not be

longwave radio

2014-06-07 Thread brian sackrider
I use to have radio shaak dx400 radio and would tune leftof the am
broadcast band from 150-540 or so and the only thing that I have ever
heard on this band was those 3 letter cw becons and weather and this was
on a long wire antanna and this was back in the 80's. In 1986 I went
toEurop and they did broadcast on this band but it was in their own
langueges. I think that those 3 letter cw stations might be airport
navagation stations and this is my experiences with the long wave band.

Dane,

Do you want a long wave scan or just samples of stations?

I am quite happy to do a scann for you, waiting on each station for a few
minutes, but please be aware, I am located only three miles from the local
transmitter which carries A.M services and we get some imaging at the hf end
of long wave.

As for sets being sold with long wave, I am not aware of any lack, certainly
down here in Hampshire.

Radio 4 is on 198kHz and RTE1 (or is it 2)? is on 252kHz. R4 is reasonable
but again, suffers problems due to the local A.M transmitter, primarily
because we have Talk Sport on 1107kHz which generates a hetrodyne on 198kHz,
I have not yet found a radio which totally nulls this, if you care to work
it out, 1107 minus 198 = more or less double the i.f of many sets, i.e 909,
most sets have an i.f of 465, 455 is half 909, rather close to the i.f of
465, which most sets tend to use, least those which have a.m on the lf and
mf bands.

RTE on 252 here, is not very strong, but then being on the south coast, the
signal not really being very strong from the transmitter, it not really a
surprise.

listen to music in surrround sound

2014-05-26 Thread brian sackrider
Hi this is Brian Sackrider and it is a matter of prefference on how
to listen to music if you listen toyour music in stereo or in surround
sound that is your prefference. I used to have a pioneer surround sound
system it was the htp 55 and I did like to listen to music in surround
sound I liked the concert hall effect and all of the seperation and the
acoostic effects. in my opinion that is the only to listen to music in
full surround sound you just can't get that kind of sound from stereo
speakers iI do like to hear good stereo speakers but there is no
compearason to listening to music in surroundsound.

On 5/26/2014 2:54 AM, Dane Trethowan wrote:

You're right, they don't like surround-sound and they do have a point.

Surround-Sound systems are not designed for pure music listening, you're better
off with a good stereo amp and a good pair of stereo speakers for doing things
like that and here's their point, for the cost of a surround-sound system you
can buy better sound stereo amp and speakers.

In short, surround-sound is for entertaining and enjoyable listening.

to use a graphics equalizer with one piece of equipment I had, but when I
bought surround sound, the equalizer made things sound distored, so I quit
using it. Audiophiles don't like graphic equalizers.

As much as Bose users won't like to hear it, you won't find a Bose system or
product mentioned in an audiophile magazine but that's nice to say their
products are cheap, nasty and rubbish because that just isn't the case.

The products are reasonable at worst and the company is very good to deal
with, or it is here at any rate.

I've been able to try before I buy the products I have in my own home, there
was one product I didn't like and I told Bose so after the trial, they made
arrangements to pick the product up from me and I was given a refund of the
purchase price, no questions asked.

I had a problem with my Bose Soundlink Air and a pickup of the old and
delivery of the new replacement was arranged, again no questions asked, no
hitches etc, I just had to identify who I was.

I wonder if anybody on list owns this speaker from Bose. It costs $300.
I saw one briefly last evening at the Verizon store, as I was
purchasing my new iPhone and was pretty impressed with the sound,
given the size of the box. I really haven't looked all that much in
to this sort of speaker. I have an older dock that works with the
older style iPhone connectors, and it really sounds pretty good, but
my better half has sort of taken it over for use in his class-room.
So I'd like to know from those who have experienced this equipment,
what did you think, and are there other units you'd recommend as good
competition? I like the size and the volume and depth of sound, but
am not thrilled with the $300 price tag, naturally.
Mary
