Re: [Bulk] Can't do streaming audio with WMP.

2005-10-05 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi Deb. Have you by any chance installed some software since the last
time you listened to those .asx streams. I'm asking because the same
thing happened to me when I installed Winamp 5.1. Logically, as a
couple of list members pointed out when I mentioned the problem, with
.asx files on my computer directed to associate with WMP, there
shouldn't be any connection to the Winamp install. However, when I
uninstalled Winamp 5.1 and reinstalled Winamp 5.093, .asx files began
to play again just fine through WMP. Just thought I'd pass it along
in case your dealing with something similar.

Meanwhile, with the link in focus, try doing a save target as from
the audio file to your desktop. Then press enter on the resulting
file. For me, that was a workaround while I figured out what was going on.

to download the link that points to the file; it won't play when I
click on the link, again the download prompt starts. Do you think it
might help to go back to an older version of WMP?I'm sorry if this
doesn't make sense, but if someone could help, I'd really appreciate
it. Thanks, Deb.

You've probably got Winamp installed? Here's a little trick I discovered. I
don't know why this works, but it does. Here's what you do.
Get into Winamp preferences, then file types. Now tab to the button that
reads none and hit enter.
Now tab into the list view of file types and select only mp3. OGG and m3u.
to play.
Your file will now launch Windows Media Player and play fine.
