If you are not worried about the storage capacity, get it. you don't get the remote, but to save $100.00 you may think it is worth it. I like mine! I haven't noticed an adapter jack. How ever, the battery life, is great. I think they claim around 35 hours, depending on what you are doing. So I have never worried much about using batteries. It does have a jack too plug in an included USB cable. It all so came with software. How ever I never installed it. That's because your computer will see it as another drive. And you can just copy and past files. I think the only thing besides memory, is on the DS50 you get some kind of included remote control, but again for my uses, I just don't even need the remote. It all depends on what you really want to do with the Olympus recorder. I have the DS30 and like it just fine. Now I will say, I just use it for notes, and phone numbers, and messing around. A speech are two every once an a while. That's about it. On HQ mono, which is what I use most of the time, the DS30 will give you over 18 hours of recording time. With excellent quality, So again I would make your choices, according to what you really want to do with your recorder.
