You might try Express Scribe from NCH Software at:

http://www.nch.com.au/index.html

Its primary use is transcription. One of the options in the options menu is
setting up speech recognition. It will create a text draft of a file.

I haven't tried this particular option so I can't vouch for its accuracy.

Robert

Thanks for catching the discrepancy. What I am hoping to do is take a mp3
of a radio broadcast (monologues, sermons, whatever) and turn them into
text for easy searching.
Probably the best suggestion so far, offered on BlindTech, appears to be
Dragon Naturally Speaking.
I don't need 100
% accuracy; just something that is usable.

Hello,Woops, my mistake.
I am sorry, I've never heard of a peace of software that can do that.
I know of a couple of programs that can do it the way that I suggested
before, but never the other way around.

My best regards, John.

You have his request backwards. He wants to take audio and convert it to
text.

High every one,
There are 2 peaces of software that I know of that can do this for you
without any problems.
One is Open Book, and the other one is Wave Pad.
I know how to convert text to mp3 using Open Book, but I haven't a clew of
how to convert text to mp3 using Wave Pad.
My best regards, John.

One might be able to use windows Vista Speech Recognition with the $15
add-in that allows you to transcribe a wave file to generate some kind of
output, but it will be one long fairly inaccurate string of text with no
punctuation, since no punctuation marks will have been indicated in the
audio. Naturally Speaking and an add-on for it called KnowBrainer
supposedly have a system for transcribing text from any voice, with no
profile having been built, but again, there will be no punctuation in the
resulting document.

Ok, I realize that this might seen to be a somewhat stupid question as
this may appear to be impossible on a very accurate basis. is there
software out there that can attempt to take a spoken word file, such as
an

mp3, and attempt to convert the words into a text document?
I would like to post some comments from a radio show onto some blogs and
into some emails without having to go through the laborous process of
hand

transcribing.
It would also be nice, upon occasion, to use the find command of a screen
reader or text editor to search for strings.

Is this possible on a practical level, and are any of these programs, if
they exist, both affordable and screen reader friendly?
