RE: Program for general recording on the PC needed.

2013-07-20 Thread Rob Tabor
Good morning Dave and list members,

An external synth is certainly a workable solution to your recording
dilemma. However, if you go that route I would advise you to use your sound
card to run JAWS and use the external synth for other audio for the simple
reason that if you lose speech it will be much easier to rule out hardware
failure as a cause. For example, if you hear Windows system warning sounds
you will be able to rule out hardware failure if you have JAWS configured to
run on the system's internal soundcard. Conversely, it will be much harder
to rule out hardware failure if JAWS is configured to run on the plugin
speech box. It's just a thought to ponder and I hope it helps.

Best regards,
Rob Jayhawk Tabor

Yes.A usb sound card for speech is a good idea. You can even get usb
digital speakers that are fine with Jaws such as the Palo Alto Audio
Design Musik Digital Multimedia Speakers for arounf $50. Or a usb
sound bar for laptops. Be sure it acts as a sound card as well as
drawing power from usb. This is the simplest solution I've found. I
did have a problem with Jaws not responding or speaking quickly if it
hadn't been talking for a while but somehow that is fixed.

They are not good for music having no bass or treble but pretty good
 with speech.

Re: Program for general recording on the PC needed.

2013-07-19 Thread Aidan Maher
Hi, I suggest you update total recorder to the latest version, then
you choose software recording and you just switch off jaws speech
buy pressing insert plus space (before recording) and the same
keystroak again to put speech back on, if you have jaws ten or older,
you would need to use insert plus v, press the end key and then
spacebar to turn speech off and then enter.

that the program I currently use, Total Recorder, is unable to record the
audio I want without also recording the screen reader, Jaws. In XP, Total
Recorder could separate the audio streams and keep Jaws out of the
recording, but it can't do it in Windows 7 or 8. Is there another program I
can use that will do this? I could use 2 sound cards, 1 for JAWS, 1 for
stuff I want to record, but I'm using a laptop. So I'd have to take the
computer, external sound card, and headphones or speakers everywhere I go,
which is quite annoying. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you got to press jaws key + space then s, for speech on / off.

Why not use the fully accessible audacity, which is an amazing tool for

The only way around this is to get a trippletalk external synth.
Another way is to get the virtual cable. Don't ask me anything about

there should be some way to do in 7 or 8 something that was so easy in XP.

Thanks, but this doesn't really solve the problem. It sort of reminds me of
the old joke about the guy who goes to the doctor and says, doctor i have
severe pain whenever I move my arm. And the doctor says, well then just
don't move your arm. I frequently use the PC for other things, or set up the
next thing to be recorded while the current recording is going. So no speech
isn't really an option.

which is quite annoying. Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: Program for general recording on the PC needed.

2013-07-19 Thread Rob Tabor
Good afternoon,

I have not tried using VAC, but I have every assurance of its accessibility
with JAWS and NVDA, but I can't say for sure as to whether or how well VAC
works with We. Several instructors and students of the Cisco Academy for the
Visually Impaired (CAVI), are using VAC with overwhelming success. The main
thing to be aware of is the learning curve that lies before you, and it will
take a lot of trial and error to configure all the inputs, throughputs, and
outputs to get the program to connect various components correctly, be they
hardware or software. Good luck with VAC if that is how you decide to go.

Best regards,
Rob Jayhawk Tabor

The only way around this is to get a trippletalk external synth.
Another way is to get the virtual cable. Don't ask me anything about

Access isn't a problem with Total Recorder. In fact, it's one of the
easiest, most fully-featured programs. It just can not record in Win 7

2013-07-19 Thread Robert Logue
Yes.A usb sound card for speech is a good idea. You can even get usb
digital speakers that are fine with Jaws such as the Palo Alto Audio
Design Musik Digital Multimedia Speakers for arounf $50. Or a usb
sound bar for laptops. Be sure it acts as a sound card as well as
drawing power from usb. This is the simplest solution I've found. I
did have a problem with Jaws not responding or speaking quickly if it
hadn't been talking for a while but somehow that is fixed.

They are not good for music having no bass or treble but pretty good
with speech.

You go to schedule under tools and add an item and you can background
record from there -- I use it a lot and it works great, but you must

Hi, I suggest you update total recorder to the latest version, then
you choose software recording and you just switch off jaws speech
buy pressing insert plus space (before recording) and the same
keystroak again to put speech back on, if you have jaws ten or older,
you would need to use insert plus v, press the end key and then
spacebar to turn speech off and then enter.

Yes.A usb sound card for speech is a good idea. You can even get usb
digital speakers that are fine with Jaws such as the Palo Alto Audio
Design Musik Digital Multimedia Speakers for arounf $50. Or a usb sound
bar for laptops. Be sure it acts as a sound card as well as drawing power
from usb. This is the simplest solution I've found. I did have a problem
with Jaws not responding or speaking quickly if it hadn't been talking for

They are not good for music having no bass or treble but pretty good with

Open a url from the file menu. Sometimes you start a streem playing in
another player and copy the address from the file properties in that
player into TR then use capture. The capture feature opens a web page.
You may need to copy the url in the search box again and fiddle around
with the interface. It doesn't work on some web based players but worth
trying.

This is called background recording.
