You will need the latest version of winamp which is 5.11 at least that is the version that I am using. I think v 2 does not allow you to play wav files. Re: Winamp.
1. Start Winamp, and open the playlist editor, with alt-e. Press ctrl-tab, until the playlist editor has focus. 2. Press ctrl-n, to open a fresh (empty) playlist. 3. Close or minimize the winamp application. 4. Browse, in Windows Explorer, to the first track you want to add to the playlist. Click on the Files menu (or open the context menu, with a right click). Press enter on Enqueue In Winamp. When you do so, Winamp will re-open, but ignore it. 5. Repeat step 4, for each track you want to add to the playlist. 6. When you have added all the tracks you wish, return your focus to Winamp, and ctrl-tab to the playlist editor. The playlist editor should now contain all the tracks you enqueued, in the order you added them. Save the playlist, with ctrl-s, being sure the files has a .m3u extension. You're done! Re: winamp?
There were some focus issues on Winamp's part with the playlist editor through part of the 5.0x series. I don't remember exactly where they started or at what point they were fixed, but it seems to me like everything was back to normal with it by maybe v5.11 or 5.111, something like that, at least with Jaws. Window-Eyes still has some weird issues with the playlist editor even now, but it's nothing that can't be overcome. -- Ken, [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: "Michael Babcock" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "PC audio discussion list. Re: winamp?
Everything should work right with 513_pro, and yes you can do everything with it that you could with the older pro version. You don't even have to re-enter the registration key, etc., assuming that you did that when you got your original copy of pro. Somebody else will have to take over with regard to the playlist editor questions, as I don't have Jaws personally--I just remember there being issues with it in the 5.0 series and that they were later resolved. -- Ken, [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: "Michael Babcock" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: winamp?
No you can't with the free version. You have to use the pro version to burn and rip CDs or you could use another program such as Nero or Easy CD Creater to burn them and Easy CD DA extractor or the Goldwave CD ripper to rip them. - Original Message - From: "Gary Wood" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. hi XP did not tell you that the file was a virus, all it said was that opening this type of file could *potentially* be dangerous. But since Winamp is not a virus, you are ok. RE: Winamp.
hi. Did you see a dialogue that said Open file security warning dialogue. While files from the internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you did, that is acommon thing with windows xp service pack 2. So even if you downloaded Winamp from the Whitestick.co.uk website and after downloading it, pressed enter on it, and as i said before, you are running XP service pack 2, you are going to get that dialogue. If you are unsure, you can always scan the file in your favorite virus checker such as Norton and it should tell you if the file is a virus. Re: Winamp
hi. Well, there's that word, "accessible" again. I would say the only real issue is with the media library. So if you don't plan on making use of it a lot, you should be fine. A more screenreader friendly version can be gotten from http://www.toonhead-online.com/winamp513_full.exe However when you install it, as I've said many times already on this subject but I'll say it again, when installing Winamp, make sure that the modern skin support is not! checked. By default, everything is turned on. So when installing it, arrow down the list of options and uncheck modern skin support. You'll know it's unchecked for sure when you get to the skin selection part of the instalation. Make sure that the radio button for classic skin for slower machines and greater accessibility is checked. If it isn't, you know modern skin support is still checked, so you'll need to go back and uncheck it. Otherwise, you'll have nothing but trouble with it. If you have a version of JAWS after 4.51, press insert plus h for specific hotkeys for the window you're in, or insert plus w gives you hotkeys for all Winamp windows. Hope this helps. It's accessible if your not concerned with the winamp library. They've changed the library and it's more of a grafical interface than it used to be so if you use the library I'd stay with an older version but if the library is of no concern as it isn't to me then upgrade by all means. Re: Winamp
hi. I got so disgusted with version 5.2 of Winamp that I just went right back to version 5.13. To answer your question about the library, it kind of is, and kind of isn't. In version 5.2, you have to do all kinds of tricks to get it to work properly. In version 5.13 of Winamp, you don't, it just works as it should, every time. Now I ask you which version would you install? Yep, 5.13, until Nullsoft can fix the library, or until someone, with some JAWS scripting abilitiesand/or Window-eyes set file manipulation, can make the library, the 5.2 version of the library this is, more accessible. Re: Winamp
It's not an ad. It's a windows Pop Up you can enable or disable yourself. Simply look under general preferences and uncheck the "look for updates at winamp startup". That will stop the pop-ups. Hello Chris, I have Winamp 5.12 on my laptop. I'm having trouble getting to the library. Is there a trick I need to know? Thanks. Dennis Shulman - Rabbi Dennis G. Re: Winamp
hi. Press alt plus l and it should show the library in a separate window. By the way, if you have Winamp 5.12, you should upgrade to version 5.13 immediately, because 5.12 has a major security flaw. Somehow, Nullsoft missed it and released version 5.13 to fix it. Sane keystrokes and everything else applies, the only fix in 5.13 was the security flaw. oh! so you guys are talking about the notification of new versions of Winamp being available. Yes, this can be turned off in preferences. It's not an add or even a popup, it's just a little dialogue box. But yes it can be turned off in the general preferences. I'm sure you can find it. At 12:17 PM 4/17/2006, you wrote: >It's not an ad. Great suggestion...This won't help him with XM, so in that case, I recommend a subscription to XM Radio Online, available at listen.xmradio.com. I think the trial is three days; not sure what the monthly fee is since I get it free as a regular XM subscriber...But, you get a LOT more channels with a real sub than you do with Winamp. I also recommend using the XStreamXM player instead of the default one on XM's site. Check out my articles at Associated Content. Subscribe, and receive an email every time I publish an article. Carlis, In the Winamp main window, or any of the other winamp windows, press ins-h, to get a list of available keystrokes. also, from the main window, press alt-f, to open the main menu. Explore the menu options, and the options in the various submenus. Pay particular attention to the single letter hotkeys mentioned after many of the menu options. These can often be used from the main window, just by pressing the letter in question, without having to open and scroll through the menus. Let us know if you have any questions about the purpose and use of any of the options. Good luck. Blessed Be, Dana that's Dayna, D A N A, NOT Donna, D O N N A D. S. Leslie, née C. R. Re: Winamp.
Hi. Keep in mind that the below directions, at least pressing insert plus h are for JAWS only. If you use window-eyes, you won't get some of the features like time markers and panning and adjusting the volume to specific levels as well as being able to stop after the currently playing track in a playlist of songs. but another good tip is that Winamp is comprised of 3 windows, the main Winamp window, the equalizer and the playlist editor. to cycle between these windows, you must press control plus tab. In other words, you land in the main Winamp window when you start the program. pressing control plus tab once takes you to the equalizer window, if it is enabled, but let's say that it is for ease of explanation. Once you're in the equalizer window, pressing control plus tab once more takes you to the playlist editor. then, if you press control plus tab yet again you go back to the main window. then the equalizer, then the playlist editor and so on. If you press control plus tab and you expect to land in the equalizer from the main window and it does not appear, the equalizer window is turned off. to turn it on press alt plus g. the playlist editor keystroke is alt plus e and the main window keystroke is alt w. be sure to not toggle the main window to off or you won't be abl to do anything very easily. Hope the explanation was clear enough. Not sure, but I suggest you upgrade to windows XP because windows 98 is no longer supported. Re: winamp
Doc, I've never actually used multiple instances of Winamp. So I'm talking theoretically here. But, if you check that check box, I believe you should be able to run two entirely separate instances of Winamp, in separate windows. From what you say below, it sounds as if you played one file, and then tried to play a second, in the SAME instance of winamp. You would need to play each in its own instance of Winamp, of course. Also, of course, your sound card would need to be able to handle the multiple outputs, simultaneously. If you've done all this and it still doesn't work for you, sorry, but you've exceeded my competency. Good luck. Re: winamp
Doc, Martina, With the relevant check box checked, I WAS able to spawn two separate instances of Winamp, and have them play separate files, simultaneously. But I had to spawn the two instances by pressing my winamp shortcut twice. The ctrl-n technique that Martina mentioned doesn't seem to work for me, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Listening to Phantom of the Opera and Phil Ochs simultaneously is rather hard on the ear. But it DOES work. Hi! I've never used Winamp to burn CD's, but over the last 2 months, I've ripped almost my entire CD collection to my hard drive, using Winamp Pro. The process has worked very well for me, and it is very quick, usually about 3 minutes for a CD. Take care! Hi Tiffany, I'm not sure if there is a special reason why you want version 5.34 but version 5.35 which is the latest official version of Winamp can be downloaded from www.whitestick.co.uk/progs/winamp535_full.exe. Re: winamp
Hi Joe I don't know where you heard your information, but by all reports I've received, you *can* use Winamp 5.0 and up with JJAWS 4.51. So, run, don't walk over to, http://www.winamp.com, or better yet, here's a direct link, http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp508c_full_emusic-7plus.exe When you install it, choose full, because it contains extra plugins for different audio files you may need in the future and it's always better to be prepared. It's not that much bigger than lite. Also, when installing, make sure you pay extra special attention to the skin selection part of the instalation. Be sure to choose the radio button which mentions classic skin for slower machines and greater accessibility. If you do this the classic skin is installed, and not the modern one which is an accessibility problem. By the way, if you can ever upgrade your JAWS to version 6, the checkboxes in the Winamp instalation screen are actually spoken, where in earlier versions you had to guess. By trial and error I figured out that everything was checked by default. Simply download and install this new Winamp right over the top of your 2.x version. If you uninstall your previous one before installing this one you will lose any saved settings you may have. Hope this helps. Re: WinAmp
hi. With the current version, 5.23, I see absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to use it effectively. The only problem, as you so rightly said Steve, is the media library. However, it is entirely possible to use http://www.shoutcast.com to search for, and listen to exactly the same radio stations that you would be able to find in the media library. In fact, the exact same listings are used. So, it is completely safe to download version 5.23 from http://whitestick.co.uk/download.html Even better, the direct link to 5.23 is http://whitestick.co.uk/progs/winamp523_full.exe Note! If you're using a previous version in the 5.2 series of releases, it'll recognize that and the first choice you'll see on the install screen is called previous instalation. This maintains all your settings about what was installed before. If you're the paranoid type however, you can always press your tab key and make sure all the options you want checked are actually checked. For my system I have the modern skin support, visualizations, and Winamp agent all unchecked. Everything else is ok to keep checked. The Winamp agent is a personal preference type of thing, so just because i have it unchecked, doesn't mean you have to also. It's free, so what have you got to lose, right? Of course there's time, but we can't get that back anyways, . One final note, if something awful happens, and version 5.23 doesn't work, you can simply go back to a previous version if you keep the installer for it around. I have all the installers going back to some of the 2.x versions of Winamp. Hey, you never know when someone may need them. Hope that helps. and At 08:58 AM 6/9/2006, you wrote: >Hello friends, > >the last time I tried WinAmp, the latest version had changes to the >media library and it was not accessible for listening to internet radio >etc. Can anyone tell me if this is still the case or if there is >modified scripts or anything to resolve the problem? > >Many thanks in anticipation, > >Steve. >- >The information in this e-mail and any attachments is confidential >and is intended for the attention and use of the named >addressee(s). Re: WinAmp
Reed, Suggestion 1: FORGET ABOUT THE LIBRARY! Even with the latest scripts, it isn't accessible, and it simply isn't worth all the effort to try and make it accessible. For browsing the music on your hard drive, use the ctrl-l and shift-l commands, and, for finding interesting web streams to play, browse the shoutcast web site, and bookmark anything that interests you. Go ahead and install the latest scripts, though. They do make various other functions more accessible. Just don't think they'll do anything significantly useful for the library. Blessed Be, Dana D. Re: WinAmp
Dana, What do you suggest, for those of us trying to create see deeze, with crossfades in them, that sighted people can "advance the tracks" in, when they are playing them on regular CD players? I can only get the Disc Writer plug in to create one big wav file, now that the 5.24 version of the Media Library is the "norm". I have heard that others have gone back to version 5.09E, to alleviate this problem, but, that creates security issues, doesn't it (or does it not?)? Thanks, -Mac- - Original Message - From: "Dana S. Re: WinAmp
That's interesting to hear people saying how "inaccessible" the library is...I'm running JFW 5.1, XP Home, and currently, Winamp 5.27...Thanks to Jim's scripts, I have absolutely no trouble using the media library...Works great for browsing files, searching for files, ripping/burning CD's, using the online services, and so on. Granted, I haven't upgraded to any of the 5.25 betas, so that might make a difference...Actually, I've considered upgrading, but as a Winamp Pro user, I haven't seen any version newer than 5.24 on the Winamp site. Re: winamp
Do yourself a favor! Forget about the Winamp library! If you want to play a shoutcast stream, go to the shoutcast web site, find the stream on their site, and click the TuneIn button. Once Winamp opens and the stream is playing, bookmark it. - Original Message - From: "Joe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: winamp
I did say "if you want to play a *shoutcast* stream." For XM streams, the easiest solution is to get sighted assistance to select each of your favorite streams, play them, and bookmark them. Do whatever you need to to bypass the sucky Winamp library. Struggling with it simply isn't worth the effort! - Original Message - From: "hank smith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list.
