Re: midi to wave/mp3

2007-01-11 Thread Richard Claypool
Hi,

You can't convert midi to wav or mp3. All midi is is a set of musical
instructions that your soundcard works with.

You could use total recorder, or something like goldwave, turn on the what
you hear option in your soundcard's volume, and record it that way through
the soundcard.

Of course it's possible to convert Midi to WAV at least; I use a program
called Wingroove for it, I guess I sent it to some people on this list some
years ago. I think it's not available on any site but I can send it to
anyone who wants along with some instructions.

actually, that would not be a true conversion. all it's doing is piping the
sound to the drive.

I actually think winamp will do that, though I've not tested it in awhile.

RE: midi to wave/mp3

2007-01-11 Thread John Sanfilippo
There actually is a pay program midi to mp3 which does this very easily.
Only problem I've had with it is that it will clip the end of the sound.
So I suppose you can counter act this by recording extra space and some
unheard midi message such as a pedal up down a few seconds after the
actual sound stops. I haven't tried this and I haven't registered the
program.

The few times I've converted MIDI to MP3 or Wav I've done it in real
time by playing the MIDI file in WinAmp or something and recording it
simultaneously with Sound Forge. The MIDI format is totally alien to any
sort of MP3 or Wav format.
I have heard of programs to convert MIDI to Wav however.
