Re: recording CDA on a data disc
Hi Cris, That can be said of any cd. There are too many factors involved, in burning cd's, to say with absolute certainty that one way is really better than another. Prime example, I have been burning, erasing, and re-burning on the same cdrw's, for the last 9 months. In that time, I have never been unable to retrieve any data from any disk. On the other hand, I have had some cdr's, that I couldn't access. The quality of the manufacturing process has slipped since cd's first became available because they have become more popular. In the beginning, the technology was new, and therefore, the quality of the product had to be very high, in order for it to get a firm hold in the market. Once established, competition grew, and the manufacturing process speeded up to keep up with demand Like everything else in our modern society, quality suffers, when more speed is added to the production process. So, you just have to find a combination of media, and hardware that works in your particular situation, and stick with it. Re: recording CDA on a data disc
Just to clarify things, the yamaha burner to which I referred is a stand alone burner that burns audio cds only, and you have to burn them on discs called audio discs. It will accept both cdr and cdrw audio discs, but it won't accept data discs of either type, and it won't burn data at all. I use it to burn records and then transfer them to the computer. Tom , Cdrws can screw up when burning either data or audio. Re: recording CDA on a data disc
Hi Tom, That is my practice! I use cdrw's for my daily backups, because I do a seven day cycle, so every week each disk is erased and re-written. Of course, I also back up my data files to another hard drive. I use cdr's, for permanent storage of data, and audio cd's. I also burn data disks containing only mp3 files, so that I can listen to the files in devices other than the computer. This procedure works for me, so I'm not inclined to change. After all, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. There is alot of discussion on the different types of compact disks, and their uses, it enough to keep us confused HTH, R Q J - Original Message - From: "Tom Kaufman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Hi Chris. You can put a lot more music on a data CD than you can with an audio CD. Up to ten hours worth. - Original Message - From: "Cris Hall" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. RE: recording CDA on a data disc
Hi, was wondering the same thing . So I asked a sound engineer friend of mine. The story is, the surface layer of the disk, i.e.. the data layer where the information is burnt, is the same. The difference is that if you buy music cdrws, some royalty money go's off to the record companies. So buy cdrw meant for data. hth Cheers,James -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of stever2525 Sent: Sunday, January 09, 2005 4:43 PM To: PC audio discussion list.
