Re: C-Crane FM Tramsmitters

2005-02-02 Thread Adrian Beech
G'day,
Do you recall what the make and model was of the transmitter that you got
from Radio Shack? I'm about to head off to a local electronics shop here
and get what sounds like a similar unit. The sales person I spoke to over
the phone said that it is usually used in cars but it should cover 10 metres
no problems... hm, like I've heard that before!

Cheers.

carry from my computer room to the living room. I took it back and the
salesman told me that it was used mostly in automobiles.

Thanks to all who have provided information concerning the CCrane FM
transmitter! Now all I need to do is to get someone here who can take care
of this as I ddon't quite have nerve enough to tackle it myself! Even as it
is, the range isn't too bad! However..I do find, for example, that if I
tune my clock radio (which is one of those Sony "Dream Machines") it won't
pick up the signal from the transmitter good enough for it to be in stereo.
I feel fairly certain that, based on the information that I've heard, that
turning that screw will solve that problem!

I think the transmitter might be a monster transmitter. it costs about
$50.00. I believe there is a switch that allows you to tune the transmitter
from 88.1 to 89.1 megahertz in 200 megahertz steps. at the top of the unit,
there is a cord that has an eighth inch male plug that is plugged into the
audio source. the unit is round on top and squared on the bottom, almost egg
shaped. I shall try to find out more about it.

RE: C-Crane FM Tramsmitters

2005-01-31 Thread Rick Alfaro
Here are the notes I have regarding the modification for the ccrane
transmitter. I followed these instructions and was able to turn the screw
up for better range.

The C. Crane Company, Fortuna, Calif., offers a low-power FM transmitter.
Blind end users report a limited range when they take the C. Crane unit out
of the box and plug it in. It often reaches only as far as a single room. I
am pleased to report that ingenious blind end users have found a solution to
this dilemma.

There is a rectangular, depressed space on the back of the unit about one
inch by two inches. It is a thin metal or plastic plate that is surrounded
by a feelable line. It's a little rougher in texture than the surrounding
casing and looks like it's a label, which it is. The plate is flexible, but
it is stuck on with good adhesive. It can go back into place very nicely, if
carefully removed. Slide a knife blade in under the corner of the plate and
get it started peeling off.
Once the plate has been carefully pealed off, you'll feel three tiny holes.
The left most of the three holes has an adjusting screw, so you'll need a
very small Philips screwdriver. Turn the screw a quarter to a half turn
clockwise until it stops. Replace the plate. If you were careful with the
plate, you can get it back in place with no noticeable damage.
After performing this adjustment, end users report dramatic improvements in
the performance and range of the unit. People report the range extends
throughout their homes and yard.

Best regards,

Rick Alfaro

Re: C-Crane FM Tramsmitters

2005-01-31 Thread Gary G. Schindler

I would suggest that if you haven't bought the C Crane transmitter yet.
consider the fm transmitter that radio shack sells first. it has in my mind
better coverage around the house. there is no whip antenna to get broken, and
you don't have to remove any plates and adjust any screws to make it more
powerful. my dad bought one and I tried it out when he was here. the unit can
plug into your soundcard and take up little space.

An engineer at ccrane told me how to find instructions by going through
google, but I still can't find a place to lift the corner of the label or
remove the back by removing two screws.

They won't mention the screw in the manual because it doesn't comply with
FCC regulations. They do, however, have an entry you can find with Google
describing how to adjust it, although I'm still having a problem getting it
done. There are a number of people here who have more experience with the
unit than I and who I'm sure will be glad to help.
