Hi Robbie. First, would you please give specifics for your machine such as
operating system (e.g.) Windows XP, Vista, 7). That way someone can better
help you with the problem; actually there's nothing a reboot won't fix.
Second, don't ever rely on the tech support for Hope; I understand the
support (the author of Hope) is not a good person to deal with. Just my 2
cents (cha-ching). Thanks.

Hey Guys, I helped my girlfriend install Hope on her new Windows 7 PC last
Friday. She paid her $15 and downloaded the program. Then she got the
email and entered the activation code, and the program said that it was
activated. The problem is that now it keeps asking her for her username
and password. It won't run without that. When she bought the program she
was never told that she needed those, much less given them. (I have a copy
of Hope as well, but it doesn't ask me for a username or password. It just
logs me in.)

I wrote to the address for support last Friday evening and am still
waiting for a response. I gave them her email address so they would know
what account I was referring to. I have yet to receive a response.
Thinking they might have written her directly instead of me, we have been
checking her inbox as well, but no response there either.

Does anyone here know either how to solve this problem of Hope asking for
login info, or if not, how to get a response from support?

Thanks for any advice.

Well, she had a version of Hope on her old XP system, but it wasn't
transferred onto the new system by the person that was hired to take care
of all that stuff. That old copy of Hope didn't ask her for login info
either. If she set up an account on Pandora, then it was a long time ago
and there's no way she would recall the username or password she used to
set that up. She tried registering with the new version, but it keeps
saying that the registration failed and that she should try new
credentials. I did some playing around with Pandora years ago before Hope
was developed, so I did have an account already set up; although I have no
idea what my username and password are for that now.

So basically, if I understand correctly, we need to go to Pandora itself
and either recover her old username and password, or create a new account.
Then use those to log into the account. Then Hope will log her in
automatically after that. Do I have that right?

Thanks much.

It would still be nice to know why we can't get a response from the
support address.

I have to wonder if Pandora itself broke Hope again by making some kind of

that in the past, and maybe Chris hasn't had time to update it again to

account. Then use those to log into the account. Then Hope will log her
in automatically after that. Do I have that right?

Thanks much.

Well, she had a version of Hope on her old XP system, but it wasn't
transferred onto the new system by the person that was hired to take care of
all that stuff. That old copy of Hope didn't ask her for login info either.
If she set up an account on Pandora, then it was a long time ago and there's
no way she would recall the username or password she used to set that up.
She tried registering with the new version, but it keeps saying that the
registration failed and that she should try new credentials. I did some
playing around with Pandora years ago before Hope was developed, so I did
have an account already set up; although I have no idea what my username and
password are for that now.

That sounds very possible. Nevertheless, it would still be nice to get some

the least they could do if Pandora broke Hope and an update was in the works

However, I don't think that is the case this time, because my Hope is

You definitely need to log into Pandora with Hope. If you're not being
prompted, that's probably because Hope remembers your log in
information. If this is a new install of Hope then you will need to log
into Pandora at least once or create a new account. If you're trying to
use the same account information, such as the same user ID, then it will
fail. As you said, try going to the Pandora page to retrieve the log in
information or try to register with a different account name.

Hi Ray.

I can't answer your question about using this software outside the U.S., but
I can answer the one about Hope being screen reader dependent. I think it
will work well with any screen reader. I use JAWS 12, but I don't think the
program is screen reader dependent. It has hot keys to get to different
functions. It's really nice to be able to have the program running and find

found a long version of a Blondie song that I purchased last night.

2011-01-09 Thread Adrian Spratt
Ray,

I think I remember you live in the UK. A friend in England reported that his
visit to Pandora brought up a message saying it is so far unavailable there.

On this list, Roger suggested trying a proxy server to overcome national
boundaries. It's been a while, but when I looked into that possibility, it
seemed very complicated.

My friend in England had urged me to try Spotify as a Pandora alternative,
but it's available over there, not in the US. Good news for you, I hope. He
isn't a screenreader user, so I can't vouch for its accessibility, but I
vaguely recall positive messages on this list.

Two questions?

1. Is this access to Pandora program in any way tied to a particular screen

2. Is anyone outside the US accessing the site and all it's services?

Thanks.

I've not seen his name on any e-mail lists that I'm on, and I'm on quite a

Pandora has found almost every obscure or under-the-radar folk artist I've

Pandora is much more than just a radio or music web site that actually finds
music based upon your specific and wide ranging solutions but I do not feel
like writing all of that crap out. I am not nearly as good as my friend Hap
Holly, is at spinning a good yarn.

Basically, the visually impaired developer of Qwitter, a third party
application layer gateway for the popular social networking site, Twitter,
has gone and done it again with his extremely unique approach to Pandora.
Based on some Python programming skills, and some excellent use of the
Pandora very secret XML technology, he has made a completely accessible
 interface to the Pandora site...

It is $10.00 which seems to be a one time purchase for as many updates as he
can try to write, before his fingers fall off.

The developer, Chris Toth has made a truly usable interface to Pandora. Once
you configure a few stations, either based on artist or genre, you will
never listen to Internet radio quite the same way again. No commercials, no
speaking in between the tracks, just good music of all styles.

Pandora uses your suggestions to essentially pick songs and artists in or
close to the same musical style or genre/sound.

 It is unbelievable!!!

Chris with his HOPE application has made the Pandora experience completely
blind-friendly by eliminating having to even use the Pandora site.

A blind user cannot even independently create their initial account on the
Pandora's.com web site. With H O P E, all all all things are usable and all
account creation, and all of the same interactions that a sighted user would
experience, have been built directly into Pandora's third party gateway, H O
 P E.

The H O P E program can be found at:

 http://q-continuum.net/hope/

I want everyone who is interested to visit Chris's site, and ask him
questions and of course purchase the program to further the development of
 HOPE.

Believe me, from a fellow who has used Pandora since 2006, his program was
 well worth waiting for.

Check it out, and hope you enjoy the accessible experience that HOPE brings
 to Pandora.com

If anyone wants to contact the Pandora support staff, in case they have
questions or want to purchase for 36 bucks per year, a unlimited listening
 experience, please e-mail:

 supp...@pandora.com

The subscription process is only technically open to U.S. subscribers,
unless, you happen to have a proxy gateway to make it look like you are in
fact in the U.S. That is another discussion for another time...

You can also use a credit card. I know this to be true since I used a
credit card for my purchase of Hope.

I second Roger's praises of this program. I have been enjoying Pandora
for the last few months on my Android phone, and for the last week on my
new iPod Touch, both of which have totally accessible apps. It's great
to now be able to use it on the PC.

If you are a music lover, it is well worth the ten dollars, even if all
you have is the free version of Pandora.
