RE: XLR to USB converter

2010-08-15 Thread Alex Stone
I'm no expert, but presumablyXLR does support two channels, and if it does
then stereo mikes should work.
Cheers

Yeah, I only asked because if they did work with stereo mikes, this would be
a very interesting way to hook up an Audio-technica AT822, or an ATR6250 to
your PC. I mean, yeah you can use the eighth intch jack, but this way seems
more direct to me. I don't know maybe it's just me. You know what else would
be some what interesting, if yould could have an XLR jack right on the PC it
self. I mean, this way you don't have to bother with a mixer if you don't
want to.

it depends whether you're talking about a 3 pin, 4 pin XLr connector. most
of these usb devices are for 3 pin balanced microphone cables with one of
the pins being hot for phantom power.

I'm not sure about the pin thing, but XLR does support stereo. The AT822
uses XLR. So dose the Rode NT-4.

RE: XLR to USB converter

2010-08-11 Thread Paul (Pawel) Loba
Thanks John. I know about this but my idea is sort of keep it simple as much
as possible. I am not a musician, I don't need any fancy stuff but something
good enough to make reasonable voice recordings. I got two mics sitting
here, one is Shure SM58 (dynamic) and another Apex 460 (condenser) and was
thinking about the most reasonable and effective way of connecting them to
my computer without a necessity of playing with too many knobs, sliders and
switches.
I was hoping that someone from the pc-audio group had a chance to see the
device I was mentioning about in my original email.
Best,
Pawel.
