Re: good microphone
Your question is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string? For a good headset try the Audio Technica ATH-COM2 For a stand alone microphone try the Audio Technica AT8022 If you are looking for a good USB microphone try the Rode Podcaster. You can find these with a search on amazon.com If you would like more help, tell us whether you want: to plug it in to a 3.5 mm socket or a 6 mm socket (large phone jack) or a USB port on your computer or an XLR socket on a mixer You might also consider buying a Behringer UB502 mixer for less than $50 to give you some flexibility with connections. It is small and has a foot print about the same as an Iphone laid flat. If you search on amazon.com, you will see more details. RE: good microphone
Hello Joe, I use a Yeti USB microphone and it works very well. Another microphone I would recommend are the Roland CS10EM microphones, which can plug into your computer's microphone jack. These microphones are in-ear microphones, but can also double as earphones, and cost £80, which is around $120. Hope this helps. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Joe Sent: 10 June 2013 03:26 To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: good microphone Any recommendations for a good microphone? either headset or desk? Good microphone for the victor stream.
Hello! The internal mike on the stream is a really great one. However sometimes you may whish to record with an external microphone. For example if you want to record an interview or a soundeffect (even if its not the best quelity on the sound format). I do want a small microphone. It may cost what it costs but it must be small with a good frequency range. Thanks for any help in advance. A/nders. Serprised things didn't work with the original sound card as these days the sound card is activated. However, you might have someone check settings in the control panel. The research I've done shows that the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External is not a good card for recording, but I would prefer to stick with a USB sound card because I don't know how to install an internal card. Re: Cannot get good microphone volume
I have checked every single setting I can think, and a few other places recommended to me by folks on this list, including the system tray volume control, but the mic boost remains elusive. I am very familiar with the location of the mic boost setting, as I had it on a former PC and changed it myself. I don't think there is actually a defect in the sound card. From the research I've done, many of these low-cost, consumer-grade sound cards are more designed for listening than recording, so the microphone jack is just basically put there as an afterthought. Mic volume seems to be a recurrent problem for many people using these cards. For example, the SB Live card I have is more designed for home theater, so the surround sound is its claim to fame, not its recording capability. . In the amazon.com reviews, three people said that mic volume was a problem, and one said they wrote to Creative and was told that the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External is really not designed for recording. I just thought all Creative cards were good, but I know now that I should have gotten an Audigy instead of the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External. I suppose I'll try the battery-operated mic, and if that doesn't work, I'll have to get an Audigy. Hi Rick. When I go into the volume control, there is an advanced button next to the microphone, but the only thing in there is a check box for monitoring, which is checked, but nothing about the boost like I had on the old PC. believe it or not, there are two microphone settings. the one you want is in your volume on the system tray under open volume control. there's settings to show what will show up and there's a microphone control in there and the advanced button next to that will let you activate the 20 db boost. rick - Original Message - From: Lynn Schneider [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2006 5:04 PM Subject: Re: Cannot get good microphone volume Hi Rick. Ok, so my big question is, and I'm sure Lynn's asking the same thing, where on earth is the 20 DB boost if you're using the card she's using? She can't locate it, and i did some research trying to tell where to look and I'm coming up with nothing. So we're both lost on this one. At 04:30 PM 7/15/2006, you wrote: exactly. I know I tend to be quite soft-spoken, but I didn't have this problem on the old PC. I first tried the Realtek card that came with my PC. It was fairly acceptible for playback, but I had the low mic volume problem. I then bought a Creative 24-bit USB External card (I went with that card because I figured it would be easy to install since it was USB), installed it and updated the drivers, but again, with trying multiple different brands of microphones, the mic level was very low unless I cranked the Windows volume control way up, in which case I had unacceptible hiss. It is interesting to me that, despite having Advanced Controls checked, I cannot find a mic boost option in my SB Live, but it does have a microphone volume control wheel on the card itself, which only worsens the hiss if I crank it up. I am using Sound Forge 8 on a Shuttle PC with 1 GB of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, 3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, and Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External with the latest drivers as of three days ago. Aside from screaming into the microphones, is there anything else I can do to kick up the volume, preferably without having to break the bank? The research I've done shows that the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External is not a good card for recording, but I would prefer to stick with a USB sound card because I don't know how to install an internal card. However, I will go with an internal card and pay someone to install it if that is necessary. I tried a Logitech USB microphone which does work quite nicely, but I cannot get Jaws to come through my recordings, and for some crazy reason, my PC reboots spontaneously after having it connected for more than 15 minutes, even if I'm not using it. With all the microphones I have tried, I could probably create my own electronics store on Ebay. Re: Cannot get good microphone volume
there are two advanced buttons. The one is for moniterng sound and that's in the volume properties. the other is in the playback or, if you goto the volume icon in yoru system it's under open volume controls, the first item in your context menu. that's where the twenty db boos resides. the same place as yours man. RE: Cannot get good microphone volume
Hi. I have this problem on my laptop. I solved it by buying a microphone that you put batteries in. It does quite well with volume level. I do get CPU noise, but I think that's due to the sound card I'm using. I got it from Radio Shack. It cost me somewhere around $25. Battery life is decent in it. It uses 2 AAA batteries. It's a boom mike, and the batteries go in the bottom of the base that's on the microphone. Sun Sparkle! In my opinion most any cheap computer microphone will do fine for voice chat. Now I'm ducking the flames. However, if you want to make hi fidelity audio recordings of any sort then you should consider getting some sort of microphone preamp and a higher quality microphone. Do you have a budget in mind? Would you want to make stereo recordings? You could do very well for $200 or so. Chirp|Chirp|Chirp: It's the Bat, Chirping Bat .Com ! New DEC-TALK USB: $650.00, www.chirpingbat.com/dectalkusb.shtml ! If you google both terms respecttively, you will get an extensive review of the two. maybe more lengthy than what I can provide. If you have any question or cannot find anything, I will try my best. but I believe you will get a better understanding if you try a search first.
