I use the setup software at: http://download.wdc.com/nas/mc_windows_setup.exe and once I setup my folders with permissions I put shortcuts to the folders on my desktop, then you can copy the shortcuts to any computers on your network and access your folders. I have a 4tb and 6tb wd drive that is more complicated to setup running more than one drive. Creating shortcuts is one way of doing things but its not an efficient way at all, you’d be better off “Mapping” the shares as drives to find them in Explorer - whether that be Windows or File Explorer depending on the Windows version you’re using. - Its a shame that you don’t setup things from the Web Interface as its totally accessible and you can do some incredibly powerful things with your drives there, the Desktop software is merely a window dressing and even WD themselves recommend users of these drives get familiar with the included Interface which is not difficult to learn, if you can navigate a web page then you can certainly navigate the Web Interface of a WD My Cloud or similar drive. Regarding the IOS/Android Apps? Yep, saves a whole heap of time.
