This is quite a strange site. It's very sparse and not easy to figure out
what's required. It seems like you have to build the program up out of
components.

First, you can taylor the interface to you, particularly in that you can
have several different playlists open at once. If you want to be able to
have a playlist containing all your favorite internet radio stations and
another where you open things from Windows Explorer, you can do that.
Foobar2000 also has best of breed support for regioned files. If
you find yourself with a multi-regioned file, you actually get to see the
regions like a playlist. This is beautiful for Ogg Vorbis internet radio
broadcasters like myself, who use the Oddcast/Edcast/Altacast archiving
ability, which does create a file with all those regions. The recall is
amazing.
Speaking of streaming, I don't know of any better player for
streaming audio. Winamp has nothing on Foobar, because Winamp doesn't even
come close to just how robust Foobar2000 is at streaming without buffering.
If you're listening to a stream with Foobar2000 and it's buffering, then you
can be sure that it's the stream's fault or your connections. Not Foobar's.
That's just some of the reasons you guys should actually consider
Foobar.

While it's true that foobar2000 is very modular, you don't have to know
anything about the available components (foobar2000's name for plug-ins)
to get started. Just click the Download link and then find the Latest

Re: Foobar 2000

2008-03-06 Thread Brett Boyer
I saw that screen compatibility stuff but never actually found it. I think
it was for an older version of foobar. Anyway let me see if I can explain
the keyboard setup.
Basically after you go into preferences on the file menu and open the
general branch of the tree view, the new section is keyobard shortcuts or
something. When you tab around you will hear the normal prefernces buttons:
save all, close, reset, whatever. Then you will se a list view, if you arrow
down you will hear some keystrokes and there descrpition with a bit of
giberish betweeen every thing. Once you have highlighted any entry in this
list by either arrowing down or pressing spacebar or whatever the rest of
the dialog box will be revealed. If nothing get highlighted in this list you
will not see the rest of what I am talking about.
Anyway, now that you have something highlighted you can tab to the add then
remove buttons. Now here comes the fun part the next time you hit tab you
will see a tree view of all the commands foobar offers; context menu
commands, menu bar commands, playlist commands, and more. When you find the
command you want tab once to the edit field and press your desired
keystroke. Press shift tab till you find the add button. Now to check your
work shift tab to the first listview and see if your keystroke and command
have been added to the list.
Well that is the short version. If you have trouble I can go through and
give an example if you'd like. There might be other ways of doing this but
this is how I've been d oing it, and remember I've only used this program
for a few weeks now.
Hope it helps

 seen
that works without scripts! Believe it or not!
If I could write set files for WE I'm sure I could make this program

 But I can't so I don't.
The keyboard shortcuts have to be set up by the user. It's a simple

FOobar2000 is an accessible and rather efficient audio player. It
 works
 by
using mainly standard controlls, though there is one querk in the
 latest
versions, that in order to go between the playlist tabs, you have to
controll tab while hovering on the tab controll, not from anywhere,
 and
 you
can't arrow left and right. However, it works well, and I like using
 it
 for
 some things.

 the
command you want tab once to the edit field and press your desired

 Hi Brett,

I've heard a lot of good things about foobar, so I guess I'll persevere
 with
 it for a bit.

Could you possibly give me a quick description on how to define a hot
 key.

Also, while looking around the net, I read something about a screen
 reader
compatibility setting. Do you know if this is correct, and if so, where
 in
the Foobar 2000 menu's it can be found.

 Thanks,

 Tim.

I haven't found it to be very accessible with WE. This might not be a
good
program to use for you. I am a Window-eyes user and have been for over
 ten
years, but I've got to hand it to JFW. Foobar, the first program I have
 seen
that works without scripts! Believe it or not!
If I could write set files for WE I'm sure I could make this program
 work.
 But I can't so I don't.
The keyboard shortcuts have to be set up by the user. It's a simple
 process
but kind of a tedious one. If you don't have the time I suggest moving
 on.

Hmm, when I went to http://www.foobar2000.org/, I saw a download link
there. Are you having trouble downloading it from that location? I ask
because this is the first link I see when I use Google.com, and I posted
this in answer to your question a few days ago. Did you not get that
message? I don't use FooBar2000 myself anymore, so there is a chance
that that download link doesn't work.

 Hi,

I'd be interested in any comments re the accessability of foobar 2000
with screen readers, in particular win-eyes.

Also does anyone know of a tutorial anywhere, on using it with speech.

 Thanks,

 Tim.

Brett,

Many thanks, I'll download the program and have a look. Will bare you're
offer of help in mind.

Do you happen to know if there's a list of default keyboard commands
available anywhere?

Cheers,

Tim.

I don't know how much I can help but I have used Foobar and have been for a
little while. I was using WE but JFW works a little better. It's not
impossible with WE, but JFW actually worked better out-of-the-box which is
 pretty unusual.
anyway configuring keyboard shortcuts is easy and most of the controls are
 standard.
let me know if I can help

Re: Foobar 2000

2008-02-25 Thread Nick G
FOobar2000 is an accessible and rather efficient audio player. It works by
using mainly standard controlls, though there is one querk in the latest
versions, that in order to go between the playlist tabs, you have to
controll tab while hovering on the tab controll, not from anywhere, and you
can't arrow left and right. However, it works well, and I like using it for
some things.

I have just been checking out the program. There doesn't seem to be a way
to create short cuts in spite of the fact that there is an add button. The
remove button works just fine. I also have a problem with the so called

Many of the info listed below is completely incomprehensible to me but it
may make sense to you. I downloaded the special version myself. I have
used both Winamp and Foobar and I would not easily go back to winamp.

Winamp is an excellent product, but I always feel it is worth taking note of
other developments also.

Hi all

Below is some info on the three versions of foobar 2000 from their website
at www.foobar.org

The player is extremely screen reader friendly. Somewhere in the options
there are actually some options to do with screen readers specifically. You
do not even need any scripts for it. All I can think of is that whoever
wrote this software is either blind but also knows something about visually
impaired persons, otherwise why the options for screen readers specifically?

It also seems to be continually updated.

Many of the info listed below is completely incomprehensible to me but it
may make sense to you. I downloaded the special version myself. I have
used both Winamp and Foobar and I would not easily go back to winamp.

Winamp is an excellent product, but I always feel it is worth taking note of
other developments also.

Hi ANdrea
I agree with you about foobar.
Foobar also loads much faster than winamp.
I think i'll go back to it from winamp.
/Anders.

the player is free.

Men are like a fine wine. They start out
as grapes, and it's up to women
to stomp the crap out of them until they
turn into something acceptable
 to have dinner with.
but then again women are always putting
their foot into it!
