Hi, in my free version, i have lost the ability to choose what rate i
want the conversion to be. in your paid version, can you choose the
rate you want. brian.

I still use the free version of switch; not sure...but I believe I can still
change the bit rate! I have raised several files from 128 to 320 with no

Hi. Why are you increasing the bit rate from 128 to 320? You are not
increasing the quality in any way, you will stillhave a file with 128kbs

Tom, you are absolutely not increasing the file quality by doing so.
All you are doing is increasing the file size.

RE: re switch

2015-11-26 Thread Iolaire
Hi. strictly speaking no, not in the file itself. A 128kbs quality file
will always be a 128kbs quality file. You can downgrade from 128kbs but if
you do that, you will never get a 128kbs quality again for that file.
However what you can do is improve the quality of the reproduction in
playback. If you play your music on the PC via a hi-fi system, you can
dramatically improve the quality of the sound by using a DAC but they can be
expensive, depending on just how much you are willing to pay for better
quality. I always play my music from the PC through a DAC as it makes a
huge difference. Walter.

The files are music (we usually don't have as much trouble with files not
playing with the latest version of the client now; what I am saying

Hi tom, we are getting at cross purposes, there is no problem
converting to mp3, but not if the original file is an ogg. then, you
only get four or five minutes, as if it is giving one an example of

Hi Folks,
Well, on the recommendation of two people here yesterday, I went and
installed Switch. It's completely accessible with my Window Eyes 8.4; almost
as though it was written that way, although I don't know that for sure. It's
also simple and fast. There is a five files at a time limit on the free
version, but that is easy to work around. You can select and open many more
than five files and then convert five at a time until you get them all.
However, for convenience, and because I think they deserve it for writing
such a simple and accessible product, I am probably going to buy it. It says
that it will also extract audio from DVD's and video files, although I
haven't tried this yet. If that works as simply and accessibly as the audio
conversions I've done so far, then that will make it even more worth the
price.

Thanks for putting me onto this.

Oh, by the way, Dane, VBR is not on the list of filetypes that Switch will
convert to, so I guess I will continue with M4A.

As to how to find it, just put Switch and NCH software into Google. When I

Re: Switch Is Great

2014-02-02 Thread Evan Reese
If you hit the alt key to go into the menus, just before the Open Output
Folder, the first item is Add File(s). Go into that dialogue box and then
tab over to where the folders are with your audio files, CDs or whatever. Go
into whichever folder that has files you want to convert and select them
all. Then tab over to the Open button and hit space on that. The files you
selected will appear in a list just before that Open Output Folder button.
In the free version, if you select more than five files from that list, one
of two things will happen. It will either convert only the first five, or it
will tell you that the free version only does five files at a time, and pop
up a Buy button. Both have happened to me so far. So just select the first
five, and when those are done, select the next five and so on until you've
converted them all. After you've converted all of the files from that list,
make sure you remove them before starting another batch. Just select them
all, go into that menu that begins with Add File(s) and arrow down to Remove
All.

Hey /Tom,
Do you know where the converted files are supposed to go? When I installed
it, they were set by default to go to the Music folder, and I just left it
that way for the present to test it out. But that's in Windows Vista, that
may be different for different operating systems. But you can check on that
by simply tabbing through the buttons without even going into any menus.
Maybe it's converting and you just can't find the converted files. What
happens when you tell it to convert something? For me, it tells me what file
it is working on and the percentages every so often. If it does that for
you, then I would say that it's converting something, but you just may need
to check to see where it's putting the files it converts.

Sabrina and list: Assuming you're running Windows XP (may be the same for
Windows 7 ()don't know)..here's what I was told to do..and it worked for me:
first, go to add/remove programs..arrow down to Switch..you'll want to
at this point hit something like change/remove..you'll be given some
choices; one of those choices will be downgrade to free version..that's
the one you want! Hope I explained that right; am sure that there are
others who will do a better job at explaining this than I..but it can be
done as I encountered the same problem!

I've used the full program for the free trial but it's expired and I need
to know how to downgrade it to the free version.

Re: switch

2010-04-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not John, but you can get Switch at
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html. The WMA to MP3 conversion is
supported in the free version of Switch. there's a Switch Plus, but I
don't know how much that costs since the free version does everything I
want it to do. When you download Switch you get the features in Switch
Plus as trial ware for a few weeks. You can find the price of Switch
Plus and other information about the program at the above list.

If these WMA files are DRM protected then you'll need to use a different
program, such as Sound Taxi from http://www.sound-taxi.info/. Sound Taxi
professional is $20 and Sound Taxi Platinum is $27. I think I went with
Sound Taxi Platinum because it was faster and could do more conversions
in parallel, but you should double check that.

Well, I'm in a rush now, so I'll look into this later, but my 21 days
ran out on Switch months ago, and I'm still using it just fine. I think
the 21 days is a trial of the full version that you would get if you

being said, it has never not done what I've asked it to, but I usually

Re: Switch Tunebite

2008-04-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
From the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for Switch at
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/faq.html:

Q. Is the Switch Converter really free?

Yes, we offer a free version of Switch. Switch Plus requires the
purchase of a license. Using the Plus version allows you to do things
like save to extra file formats (see the Switch help documentation for
further details) and utilize the Command Line Tool.

The free version of Switch also has the additional features of Switch
Plus enabled for a 14-day free trial after the software is first
installed. If you choose not to purchase the Switch Plus license upgrade
at the end of the free trial period, the advanced features will be
disabled but the standard Switch features will continue to work.

a protected file but it said it couldn't convert as it was protected but
 it
was simple to go through the procedure including selecting the bit rate,
right up to the convert button. On the face of it, they look easy to use
with Jaws. You have all the normal options in the convert option as you
 do
with Gold wave and in the edit option theirs all the normal stuff such as
mix etc. This programme is free and I haven't paid a penny for it and
 there
is no indication that I will have to in future. AS I said, I don't know
where I got this. The program is called Switch plus and I suspect I
 got
it when I downloaded a trial version of Tunebite. Tunebite is
 another
programme like Sound Taxi for decoding DRM encoded music files. If I
 have
time in the next day or so then I'll have another search to see where I
 got
it and let you know or you can do a google search for switch music
converter. If anyone finds it before I do, I would appreciate their
 posting
what they find. That other programme I mentioned is Tunebite and the
 link
 is: http://tunebite.com/en/remove_drm/index.html. Walter.

Sorry about that. I was just talking about the program Switch. I've
never used Tunebyte, and I never heard about it until this series of
posts, so I have no experience with it whatsoever.

Yeh, Switch is very accessible, and the free version will convert almost
anything! I don't think it'll handle DRM protected files though. The URL
 is http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html.

hi. If you install the program with all its default settings, the
upgrade should be so simple you won't even notice anything
happened. Just give it a try, that's the only way you'll know.
