Usenet is still alive, and the comp.unix.solaris group still exists. And
there's the solarisx86 mailing list
(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/).

Unfortunately there is not much traffic anymore in both of them, but
some of the Sun engineers still hang out there.

Martin.

Perhaps one of the illumos based operating systems will fit your need
for a Solaris-like experience? OmniOS is quite popular and even has
commercial support available for those that care about that.

Well, whenever you get that list going, count me in. I have been away from
Solaris for a long while, being forced by the industry to deal with RHEL
based system, but I came back to it in mild form 8 months ago and am about
to get hammered with 500 Solaris boxes due to a merger. I am sure that I'm
going to run into stuff I've never seen it would be nice to have some
sort of forum I can goto for tips

[pca] is there a general mail list related to Solaris admin etc ?

2013-07-26 Thread Paul Lanken
This is the only mail list I know of that seems to be really full of
good Solaris
admins. However this maillist is really patch and PCA specific, of course.

Does anyone know of a mail list somewhere that is more related to day to
day admin etc ? Wasn't there a great thing called usenet once upon a time?

I ran into an issue with zoneadm move and saw that it was broken, I didn't want
to deal with Oracle support and felt that other sysadmins would just know
but had no idea what was the active maillist du jour anymore.

Thank you.

Paul

Sun Managers list is probably what you're after:

http://www.sunmanagers.org/

It's an older style list where you post your questions, receive
replies offline and then reply back with a Summary post.

With that said, very knowledgeable folks are subscribed.

Some of the old OpenSolaris and newer Illumos lists are probably chock
filled with experienced Solaris admins, and you can also try LOPSA and
the LISA (formerly SAGE) lists.
