Re: [PCI] recording alerts
In the sound control panel in 9.1 there is a facility to record more alerts. I tried to get a brief snatch of Sly and the Family Stones (Why not?) from an MP3 track I had on CD. Did not work. It asks to record from a CD. Maybe an au type would work? Maybe CD is mentioned because I have this as set as input. I have some au sounds on HD. It is a little thing I was reminded of by recent posts on sound... I have a 7600. The easiest way would be to get a sound recording program, hook up a CD player to the Mac's line-in, then hit Record on the computer and Play on the CD player. If you're ripping from a CD, you'll more than likely get the whole track, and a four-minute audio alert for Are you sure you want to empty the trash? is a serious waste of CPU cycles. -- Colin A little application called SoundEdit should do the job to trim down a large audio file to a more manageable size. Not having installed or used this for several years I'm afraid I can't give you any info on where to obtain this or how to use it. Re: [PCI] recording alerts
The alert sounds are stored in the system file, aka System Folder - System. Its what's known as a suitcase, also used to store fonts. I think it was originally developed to store large numbers of small files without space penalties of files smaller than the block-size of the drive. SoundApp first said the track was too big to convert, oboy that NEVER happened to me - how big was it ? 500 mb ? so I edited a smaller bit in QT and then got SoundApp to convert this bit to system sound. Plays fine but I am not sure what I need to set the sound control panel parameters to record an alert from it. when it is in the system sound format IT IS already an alertsignal - just click open the file named system (inside the systemfolder) and drop it there and IT WILL SHOW UP in the soundalert control panel - OK !? and you can choose as an alert sound task is finished here. ok ? -- -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... -- Colin -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: [PCI] recording alerts
Then you need to put them in the system suitcase if you want them to show up in the alerts list.
