Re: [PD] [PD-dev] including a font file with Pd-extended

2007-03-31 Thread Andre Schmidt
I didn't have any time to check that on my work Mac, and also forgot to
take the old Pismo with me. (I don't own a Mac)

But i definitely have Bitstream fonts installed on the iMac and i
installed X11 from the install DVD. It's then high likely that i got the
Bitstream fonts installed from other Open Source Software like Inkscape
or Gimp. (Don't remember what other Open Source Software i installed on
that machine)

But, what ever. The easiest way (for you and the users) could be what
you mentioned. Maybe even with to aliases, for /Library/Fonts and
~/Library/Fonts for the user to choose where to drag.

I don't think you can't do this but it's possible to put a

On Debian and Ubuntu, it'll be very easy to support since the

The hard part is Windows and Mac OS X. We could require

yes, install gcc, libc-dev, make, etc, the puredata sources from vanilla

 read the readme files,
install the library first and then compile the external.
I'd be glad to help you, but I've haven't got time actually to get the

anyway, if you encounter problems during the install, you might get some

I suppose the code was taken from a max object. the problem I saw was,
that when you send a message like maxspeed 10 and then dumped the
current values, it showed up as maxspeed 1.#inf.
so that's what I meant with messages get screwed somehow. and I thought
that could be a float/int conversion/not conversion problem...

Oh yes, I see what you mean. All the message functions are expecting doubles
and pd is sending them floats, because pd, unlike max, doesn't use doubles in
messages. I guess I (or someone) will have to change all the doubles to floats
in the code.

hm ... I don't think so - just use mul !

This is like in octave/matlab: .* means element wise multiplication, *
means matrix multiplication.

e.g.:
[ a ] * [ b ] = a*b + c*d
[ c ] [ d ]

[ a ] .* [ b ] = [ a*b ]
[ c ][ d ][ c*d ]

I am trying to arrange speakers in a simple cube-setting.

4 speakers in a square on the floor and 4 attached to the ceiling.

define_loudspeakers 3 8 -90 -45 0 -45 90 -45 180 -45 -90 45 0 45 90 45 180 45

was my first attempt, but i get errors on the output of vbap and it is not
meaningful at all..

Am i trying to do something that is not possible, or does the order play an
important role ???

Help would be appreciated

in general, mtx-operations with a dot in the name (e.g. [mtx_.^]) work

 Hi IOhannes,

 I dont understand..

I think I just should install the packages i need for Gem, not all the
 packages, or not?

yes you are correct.

however, Gem has a lot of dependencies (that is the main reason why i
don't distribute linux binaries myself).

so: when you try to load Gem, pd tells you that it cannot do so, because
it cannot find a file (e.g. libmpeg3.so.1).
this is because you are missing a certain library (e.g. libmpeg3)

it can be rather hairy to find out, which package you need to get a
certain file.
since i do not know which packages you have installed and (as important)
which packages are installed on the machine used to compile your binary
for Gem and i do not know all packages myself (on my debian system i
usually install ftgl-dev, libmagick++9-dev, libmpeg3-dev,
libquicktime-dev, libavifile-dev and probably some others; and that's
it; you won't need the -dev packages, but it should be ok to install the
non-dev versions), i cannot give you a complete list.

but i can try to show you a way:

- where to get the information:
-- you can ask for all missing files on the pd-list; eventually you will
get an answer, but it is rather slow (response times of hours)
-- you can search the information yourself; e.g. on
http://packages.ubuntu.com there is a search-field for search the
contents of packages; you just paste libmpeg3.so.1 in this search
field and lo-and-behold it gives you libs/libmpeg3-1; so install that!
this should be far faster and efficient than asking the list.

- how to optimize the search:
-- you can do it incrementally (install libmpeg1 because libmpeg.so.0 is
missing; relaunch pd with Gem; notice that now libmpeg3.so.1 is missing;
install... and so forth)
-- you can do it in batch-mode: first find out which files Gem needs to
load; then install them
to find out which files Gem depends on, locate the relevant Gem.pd_linux
on your harddisk, and then run ldd /path/to/your/Gem.pd_linux (fix the
path!); you have to search the package for each file that is not found
and install it

nfgas,dr
IOhannes

PS: in Gem there should be a README that says which libraries are needed
for compilation; install these, that should cover most of the dependencies

PPS: it would be far cooler to really have a .deb file with the correct
dependencies; but somebody would have to do the work

PPPS: reply to the list; others might have the same problems like you
and will be thankful for the answers (in the archive)

[PD] float and symbol as abstraction arguments

2007-03-31 Thread Peter Plessas
Hi all,

for writing an abstraction i need a mechanism not using externals if
possible, to get the content of an $1-argument inside an abstraction
which can be of ANY type, i.e. float and symbol.

I already tried the iem_anything, dollarg, etc.
Is this possible without externals?

thanks for any help!

Hi Jasch and all,
I don't know if you fixed the type problem, but many double have to
be changed for float in the function signatures. Then, you might
want to cast it before calling the standard math functions.

If Jasch fixed this problem in the CVS as I suggested (thanks to
Thomas O. Fredericks), then Marius might be interested in using the
version in the CVS.

i think that u need install mpeg libraries. use aptitude install and
aptitude search to locate these libraries and install then.

after install mpegs libraries, maybe i'll find other errors when initialize

my 2 cents.

Re: [PD] Trying to compile Gem for ubuntu ATI Radeon Mobility M300

Problem solved with cvs version!

 Dear list,

which has been reported before on this list. It has been proposed to
compile Gem against another OpenGL version (instead of using aptitude
install gem) or/and to install the Ubuntu's Bleeding Edge Drivers by
 Alberto Milone.

I would like to try that but unfortunately I cannot even run configure
for compiling Gem. I have done the following steps:

 1. Downloaded GemLibs gem-0.90.0 and copied them both to the same
src directory such that they are neighboured.

 2. Run makeauxlibs within GemLibs. Compiled without errors.

 3. Entered gem-0.90.0/src/Gnu (deleting config.cache) and tried to run
./configure which gives the following output:

The script makeauxlibs is existing in this very directory. No idea why
it can't be found. The path ../../../GemLibs/ is as already mentioned
leading correctly to the GemLibs directory.

 4. I tried to run ./src/Gnu/configure from the gem-0.90.0 directory.
This leads to the following output:
