I've been tracking the accumulation of permissions repairs for a
couple of years. It seems that two or three specific files, mostly
having to do with iTunes security components, are the most prone to
require a minor repair. Nothing else has required any repair after
the first permissions repair was performed since I installed Mac OS X
Tiger on this G5 tower, or on my PowerBook G4 for Tiger through Leopard.

The G5 is used daily for many hours. The PB a bit less.

I had my off-brand battery fail last month, after about 9 months of
use (in rotation with the genuine battery that came with the camera).
I had about 4,500 frames on the K10D, so it powered about 2,000-ish
frames. I wasn't too impressed with that, but I still replaced it
with two el-cheapo Hong Kong batteries from eBay. They're so much
cheaper that I can replace them every year and still come out ahead...

First L ion battery failure

2008-07-17 Thread pnstenquist
One of the batteries that I purchased along with my K10D failed the other day.
Zero volts, and it won't take a charge. It was an Impact brand battery, the
brand that B&H sells for slightly less than twenty bucks. I guess that's not a
totally bad life. When was the K10D introduced? Almost three years ago? This
would have been purchased right at launch time. I replaced it with two more of
the same brand. Still less than one Pentax battery. I now have six. Two in the
K20D and grip with two backups. One in the K10D with one backup.

Excellent use of the fisheye, and a very interesting picture as well.
I'm not sure I like the fence in the forground, it actually takes a lot of the
interest away
from the building.
And yes, that is a big ass building.

Actually I shouldn't say that - I like York. I was only passing

RE: Peso Peaches Corners in summer

2008-07-17 Thread Bob W
Old buildings benefit from candle light very often. There is a book by
Junichiro Tanizaki called In Praise of Shadows which discusses this in
a Japanese context, but I was in a Tudor building on Tuesday this week
in which some of the rooms were lit naturally and the effect of the
shadows on how the oil paintings look was very interesting. Seeing
them brightly lit does not necessarily enhance them. Remember that
these buildings and paintings were never expected to be seen any other
way.

I shot about 400 frames, but this is just a quick geso for now.

Three day hoese show, then i;ll have a better look, and add some more.

These are all shots from K10D in Dng and minor adjust in LR Beta 2.

I still have 150 from the D2H to dl and look at.:-)

It's a good little unit - Firewire to Mac for control of Final Cut, or
standalone mixer (as used here). The camera is linked to the Mac by
Firewire, recording onto Mac (with DVCam safety backup) for instant
review by students fter they've been in front of the camera. End of day
they take away a DVD of their efforts.

Understood. My MacBook Pro [and previously my Pismo] only sleeps unless
a rare kernel panic arises.

I was told repairing disk permissions should be commensurate with use.
My MBP is used daily between 1 and 6 hours, mostly around 2.

Just updated my first gen iPhone to 2.0, and now syncs automatically
with the MBP via 'the cloud' - very cool. Trying for a 3G but easier to
milk a hen. Should have one by Aug.

No need to - Macs sleep very well. I tend not to shut my MBP down at
all, sleeps every night. Only shut it down if there's a problem -
happened about three times since purchase, 9 months ago.

Re: laptop bag?

2008-07-17 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I originally bought mine for the PowerBook G4 17", which I had while
I was at Apple. I returned that one to my department when I left
Apple in 2004, but the case belonged to me. I now use it with a
PowerBook G4 15" in 2006 and find the 17" case fits the 15" model
with a nice modicum of room to spare, useful for carrying other books/
magazines/accessories while still remaining very trim.

The one for a 15" model would likely do the same for a MacBook (13"
screen).

My 70-200 rotates and it also has two tripod mount holes. This helps
when mounting a camera like my D2H or i suppose one with a grip, as
the mount is pretty tight against the tripod this way.

My Sigma 100-500 is a bugger to mount on my old Manfrotto tripod, but
better with the Slik 700 Pro. Smaller head i suppose, like the
operator.:-)

Informations given till now by the guy (which as first seems to be a
good source but I suppose that having the lens indeed makes him a good
source...).

* AF speed seems to be pretty nice
* No internal Zoom
* Internal Focus
* Screwdrive compatible !!
* From the pictures posted, seems mighty sharp IMO.

Very convenient. Having 4 drives you dunno which is what is annoying.

My only complain is: why no SDHC reader with firewire connectivity !! GRR

This should be done about once a month.

Do you just close the lid when not in use (sleep) ? When's the last
