mike wilson wrote: "P. J. Alling" wrote: I've tried that still no joy with the first unit. They do, well my newer AF280T does actually seem to talk to a limited extent, it actually sets the shutter speed and aperture in program mode with the K20D, the first doesn't give correct exposures as an auto flash on the *ist-Ds on either red or green settings though TTL flash works just fine. It's completely weird. Especially if the AF280 isn't supposed to talk to the K20D at all... Maybe you have some dirt on your flash sensor, in the green ring at the front. I was hoping that might be the case Mike, but I just examined the sensor opening closely it looks like a simple hole in the case, on both AF280Ts, and didn't see any obvious dirt. I tried a blast of canned air anyway. I just tested the damned thing again, still no joy. Most inexpensive flash units I've examined used a different size opening to control the light light to the sensor, I think the AF280T actually has an electrical switch, (I really don't want to open the case to find out, if it works on at least one mode, I know I'm capable of rendering it entirely inoperable, I've done that before), The fact that it seriously underexposes in red mode, (and the proper exposure lamp lights), and dumps the entire charge in the capacitor in green mode (with no proper exposure light), seems to point to a bigger problem than just dirt, or so it seems to me. Too bad the thing isn't under warranty. My target is only about 6 feet away, well within the operating range for either mode. William Robb wrote: - Original Message - From: "P. J. So I pop a AF280T onto the K20D set the camera to [Green] at ISO 200, then set the Flash to the green range. The camera sets the proper f stop. Nice, at least some of the automation works. Take a test shot, horrible over exposure, not good. Try the red range... Horrible underexposure, damn, this thing was working only a couple of weeks ago. Put said unit on the *ist-Ds ISO 400 TTL mode, exposure is more than acceptable. WTF? Set the *ist-Ds to 200 ISO and the flash to the Green Range, same results as with the K20D. Damn I don't think I've ever used this flash off TTL or Manual, same with the other AF240T... So I drag that unit into the test, yep works fine in all modes on the *ist-Ds, gives good exposures on both red and green ranges with the K20D. I've had a Bad flash for years and never knew it! Damn that hoovers. My backup flash only works on my backup camera(s). The AF280T and AF240T won't talk to digital only flash controls. K20D heresy
What could be more heritical than this. I took the K20D out for a ramble today didn't want to be too encumbered with equipment so I just took two lenses, the FA 20-35mm f4.0 and the FA 28-200mm f3.8-5.6. I don't think I actually took a photo with the 20-35. Except for the fact that the camera meters consistently 1/3 to 2/3 of a stop too low with it the lens preformed admirably. Well except when I screwed up taking shots of the some local toughs, (a flock of swans), and forgot to reset the white balance to daylight. The lens and camera locked focus quickly and positively. I keep wanting to hate this lens, but on APS-C it's just, well I almost hate to say it, very nice. I'll be posting some pictures when I set up some sort of web hosting arrangement, that Dropbox idea is looking mighty good right now. -- The free man owns himself. Re: OT - Dropbox; Free 2GB website storage
Looks interesting. I like that it's free, and unlike places like flicker, you can control the presentation. If not the answer I'm looking for it looks like part of the answer. Brian Walters wrote: G'day all Peter's enquiry about cheap web hosting made me think about Dropbox as an option. I don't know if anyone else will find this useful but I've started using it and it works well. Dropbox is basically an online file storage / file sharing service but it can also be used to host photo galleries and websites. If your ISP is a bit stingy with your free website storage, Dropbox could be just the thing! You install the Dropbox software on your computer and during the installation the software creates a special "My Dropbox" folder. Anything placed in that folder gets automatically uploaded in the background to the Dropbox storage (assuming you have Dropbox running). If, say, you create a web gallery with JAlbum or Lightroom and you copy that gallery into the Dropbox public folder, it gets uploaded and becomes publicly available for viewing. Here's a small, quick and dirty gallery I created with JAlbum and placed in the Dropbox public folder (these are just snapshots of no great interest to PDMLers - it's just for illustrative purposes): http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1370864/album-200609/index.html The 'My Dropbox" folder also contains a "Photos" sub-folder. If you're not fussy about having total control over how a web gallery looks, you can just copy image files into that sub-folder and Dropbox will upload them and create a publicly viewable gallery for you. Here's the Dropbox link: http://www.getdropbox.com/ The free account with Dropbox gets 2GB of ad-free storage. There are paid options to access greater storage but you can develop very large galleries and websites with 2GB! There may be other similar systems but Dropbox is the first one of its type that I've come across. Dropbox runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. It's still at version 0.6 but I've not seen any problems in using it on Win XP and Vista. Now back to our regular programming.. The verticals for the column look like 20 foot sections of #11 rebar which would make them almost 110 lbs each. (5.313 pounds/foot) The bands are #4 rebar - I'd guess 9 - 10 foot length bent into 2 foot squares - roughly 6.6 pounds each. (.668 pound/foot) The first four bands near the end are set on 4 inch centers, but it looks like it changes to 6" centers after that. I make it about 30 bands altogether. 4 x 110 = 440 30 x 6.6 = 198 The whole column assembly is no more than 650 pounds. It might be 800 pounds if the verticals are #14 rebar, but I don't think so. When I was younger I worked as a rod-buster on a nuclear plant. We schlepped around 60 foot #18 bars (2.25" diameter - 13.6 pounds/foot)all day with a crew of 8 men. I started the job as a trainee when it was a hole 200 feet into the ground and was laid off as a journeyman just after we reached 350 feet above ground level. From there I went to a job building a prison and then to building a research facility that now houses CREE Inc, the LED people ... If it's the APO Macro version (focuses down to like 3m/10ft), I've had the same version since just after they were discontinued, back in maybe 2002 or 2003. It's been a very good lens. Not as flare resistant as the Pentax glass, but not much is. And Sigma was very good the one time I had to send it in. I dropped the lens in its leather case and something fairly substantial came loose inside. K10D needs to go on a trip.
My wife and I like to hit Las Vegas every once in a while, usually every 2-3 years. Being part time employees it takes a bit to save up the coin to go there. We usually stay at what was known as the Barbary Coast, and now is called Bills gambling hall and Saloon. We have about 85% of our next visit's money saved up, but how can we resist this offer. Bill's is now offering week day rooms at $39 US a night, down from $90, one free flute of Dom Perrion if you dine at the steak house, and free access to the Flamingo pool. If you're thinking about a long lens, definitely contact Don about this one. RE: metric equivalent of 1/4 NPT
I just checked my Machinery's Handbook, and the only real difference between NPT & BSP is that BSP is based on the Whitworth thread form (55°). The taper on the thread is the same (1:16). RE: Construction III
Good stuff. I particularly like 1 & 4. 1 has a great rhythm, as if it was choreographed. > > Hi Everyone: > > Construction on the superstructure has finally begun--permits > all sorted! > One of those rods weighs nearly a quarter of a ton, and the > whole cage > weighs about 1500 pounds.
