Equipment Updates
A couple of updatesI got my Katz-Eye screen diald in on my K7. The stock screen comes with a .4mm shim, apparently this is standard, I foundthat a .2mm shim was the best one. I tested this with a 50/1.2 lens at f/1.2. So, if anyone is thinking of installing a Katz Eye into their K7, probably don't buy an entire shime set, I expect that if one gets the shims from .15mm to .3mm (they come in .05mm increments) then you will have one that will work. And, my 60-250 came back last week. It seems to work, and was gone somewhat less time than I thought it would be gone for. As a recap, the SDM died on it so I sent it to Pentax Canada, via my local pusher. Pentax Canada then shipped it back to Japan where the repair was done. In all it took something like 7 weeks to do the repair. RE: OT Canon rules
Hi Team, Got home this morning to find that my house had been broken into an ransacked, seems the meat heads left my Pentax DSLR but took our Canon PS (With ING Real Estate specially printed on the front). :-( That's really bad news Rob. I hope they find the perps and throw the book at them. Make sure you get good advice about securing everything against a 2nd try - they often seem to come back for another bite. When my place was done over almost 10 years ago to the day they tried a few weeks later to break into my neighbours house, but were caught and banged up for a few months. The worst aspect of it is that it can undermine your confidence. I occcasionally find myself woken at night by dreams that I've gone out leaving the front door open - something I never used to dream about before. Still, at least that has replaced the dream in which the house falls down as a result of my negligence and the insurance won't pay out...! Re: K20D shooting Magenta images with flash
Is it in the flesh tones, but did not happen in all the photos. I will put up a photo or two. This happened with both the Pentax AF540 and the white lightning. The 540 was a direct flash shot. White lightning was bounced into a 60 reflector with a silver face. On 29 March 2010 02:27, William Robb war...@gmail.com wrote: A couple of updatesI got my Katz-Eye screen diald in on my K7. That's good, important info, William. Is your AF in tune with the manual focusing? I imagine that having a camera with AF adjust for individual lenses plus shims for the focusing screen means that as long as the mirror is close to proper alignment one can obtain a correctly adjusted camera at home without needing to send it out for repair if the mirror isn't spot on. I understand this doesn't matter to some folks who prefer not to touch the inside of a camera, but to DIY types like myself it's great. What Katzeye screen do you have? Given your 50mm f/1.2 I assume you bought it for manual focusing. When the K-8 (or whatever it's called) is announced I'll decide whether to buy it or pick up a cheap (at that point) K-7. Either way I'll be buying a Katzeye screen from the onset; I have too much nice manual-focus glass that doesn't get enough use on my K10D due to viewfinder woes. - Original Message - From: Miserere Subject: Re: Equipment Updates On 29 March 2010 02:27, William Robb war...@gmail.com wrote: A couple of updatesI got my Katz-Eye screen diald in on my K7. Is your AF in tune with the manual focusing? My adjustment method has been to make the manual focus as accurate as possible via shimming the screen in, and then use the AF bias as needed to bring the AF into line. The K7 has been very good about not needing a lot of AF biasing though. I understand this doesn't matter to some folks who prefer not to touch the inside of a camera, but to DIY types like myself it's great. It isn't terribly difficult to change out the screen, and the shims are actually easier to change out than the screen. I have the split image with microprism and I had them put the architectural grid on along with Optibrite treatment. It makes the camera much more usable for manual focus, the screen is noticably better than the stock screen (though it isn't by a huge amount), but having the split image for manual focus is very nice indeed. One thing I noticed yesterday that I never knew before was how very sharp my 50/1.2 is wide open. Re: Help with crushed SD card
In this case it only has to work one time to recover the images from the card. From: P. J. Alling That's the solution I used with the *ist-Ds the K20d however has tighter tolerances and won;t accept a card with tape on it. Also the tape is eventually unable to hold out to the pressure from the sensor and needs to be replaced. I wouldn't trust it in a critical situation. I never know when that fix is going to fail. Re: Equipment Updates
My understanding is that the position of the focusing screen (not the mirror, but the screen) has nothing to do with operation of AF. Notably, my current Katz Eye focusing screen in not aligned properly while AF works spot on. And AF was spot on before I changed the screen as well. Boris On 3/29/2010 5:21 PM, Miserere wrote: That's good, important info, William. I lived in LA for most of a year, I never found a person who could manage a conversation that wasn't about themselves, or a driver who knew the rules of the road in their own state, (though truth to tell, any place that /allows/ Motorcycles make a third lane between cars stopped in traffic, probably doesn't have any reason to expect drivers to care).
