Re: Semi-OT: Preparing photos to print on a color laser
I would recommend couple of possibilities to streamline this process 1. You can save as a PDF from the Photoshop. It is not the best PDF, and it is usually rather large in size, but it might be better than do an intermediate step. 2. Consider a free PDF printer software. I use doPDF: http://www.dopdf.com/ . It installs as a printer, to which you can print from _any_ software, - and it creates a usable PDF. Re: PESO: Cemetery and some test captures
Traveling in western Massachusetts in 1967 I happened across a cemetery overgrown with weeds with few headstones. One was for two brothers, dating from the early 1700's. I really appreciate the quality and quantity of your efforts on our behalf. The May Pug is full of interesting and effective images. My personal favorites are: Blue Jay Feather by Ken Waller -- excellent detail and composition. Assimilation by George K. Vlachou -- How did you see this, let alone capture it so well? Found in Maine by Ann Sanfedele -- An image with both pathos and humor. Just Garbage by Bruce Walker -- I would never look at that object, let alone see such an impressive photograph hiding there. Head by Dag Thrane -- wonderful composition. The effect of the rust and the peeling paint really makes it more interesting and effective. Pentax K-r and AA batteries.
Does anyone have experience powering the K-r from a set of AA batteries via the adaptor? I used nothing but lithium batteries in my K200d. I know I get like 1000 Raw or Raw+ from each set. I think I bought 5 packs in 2010. Now I have a new K-r and i bought the adapter to use liths and I use the rechargeble as a backup. The K-r does have the movie mode and it does suck juice faster along with Live View. That may change my mind. Upcoming North Carolina activities - besides GFM
As usual, I'll be coming down early for GFM and staying a while after. As *not* usual I'll have activities other than shooting photos to attend to: On Thursday June 9 I'll be giving a presentation for WildSouth.org (www.wildsouth.org) on nature photography in general and photography in that area specifically. Festivities begin at 5:30 and will run until around 7:30. It's going to be held at the Westglow Spa (www.westglowresortandspa.com), which is just outside Blowing Rock, between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. On Saturday June 11 I'll be leading a nature photography hike in the Lost Cove Wilderness Study Area (also near Blowing Rock) for Wild South. I'll have exact time and starting location soon. And some time during the week (June 6-11) I'll be doing a book signing (of my Blue Ridge High Country book) at Black Bear Books in Boone, NC (www.blackbearbooks.com) - they've just moved to the Boone Mall at 1180 Blowing Rock Rd (AKA Rt 221) this past weekend, so the location shown by Google Maps is inaccurate right now. These events are all free, so I hope some PDML people can make an appearance! -- Mark Roberts - Photography Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Pentax K-r and AA batteries.
I use only Eneloops in my K-m. Even as reserve. They keep their energy for a while and I never had any troubles with them. And I use the old ones. Sanyo released improved ones recently (Like a year ago) I think. 2011/5/4 Don Guthrie shark50...@gmail.com: Does anyone have experience powering the K-r from a set of AA batteries via the adaptor? I used nothing but lithium batteries in my K200d. I know I get like 1000 Raw or Raw+ from each set. I think I bought 5 packs in 2010. Now I have a new K-r and i bought the adapter to use liths and I use the rechargeble as a backup. The K-r does have the movie mode and it does suck juice faster along with Live View. That may change my mind. Never tired eeneloops because I can never keep up with charging and keeping track of live ones from dead ones. Thanks for the comment Dan. A good collection of images. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Daniel J. Matyola danmaty...@gmail.com Subject: Re: May PUG is up! Brian: It is an excellent gallery! Thanks for all your efforts in putting it together, and for taking on the special refusal Pug as well. Disembodied Scream with Arrow by Christine Aguila -- a surprising and interesting find, well rendered. Thanks and congratulations to all the submitters for such a compelling group of images. Samsung autoleaks 300mm f/2.8 lens
http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/samsung-itself-leaks-a-300mm-f2-8-xf-ed-lens-on-youtube/ I suspect this is a lens that would have been introduced for their Pentax-cloned GX series of DSLRs (see? it's not and OT post), but never did because they moved away from mirrors and Pentax. The lens focuses in the same direction as Pentax lenses, i.e., the correct way, while Sammy's NX lenses focus in the opposite direction, i.e., the wrong way. I wonder what other lenses they were working on... Some think Sammy's upcoming NX 85mm f/1.4 was initially designed for K-mount. So let me ask the question: If Samsung had started developing their own line of lenses for K-mount, would you guys have been happy? The Sammy lenses I've used so far have been quite nice; those that I've seem pictures from online seem equally good. Wouldn't Pentax have benefited from having Samsung producing higher end lenses such as the 85mm f/1.4? I'm curious to hear what y'all think. —M. \/\/o/\/\ -- http://WorldOfMiserere.com http://EnticingTheLight.com A Quest for Photographic Enlightenment -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Pentax users would definitely benefit from more lenses on the market. I could certainly use a good 85/1.4. Miserere wrote: http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/samsung-itself-leaks-a-300mm-f2-8-xf-ed-lens-on-youtube/ Fascinating. Of course, it might never see production. I've seen cases in which a manufacturer accidentally showed photos of an exciting product never intended for production. It draws attention and generates buzz. I wonder how much of a market there might be for a 300/2.8 for a mirrorless system. I'd guess not much at the moment (unless it were also compatible with an SLR system) but possibly in the future. I know you are kidding, but that is one of the very few modifications that is ever done to his pictures. Everything he shoots goes straight to the National Archives and nothing is ever deleted.
