Re: Some thoughts about a Sept announcement of a FF DSLR from Pentax
I believe that Canon removed the aperture ring from their lenses as a cost savings and have managed to convince photographers that this is more modern and that the lack of this feature is in fact a feature. While having manual control of the aperture on a very long lens on the body of the camera may be desirable, as the aperture ring could be of necessity in an awkward place, it only makes sense to put aperture control on a shortish lens and divide up the shooting controls a bit more equally between both hands. At least Pentax and Nikon used to give you the choice of how you wanted to work. Now it's left to Panasonic and Samsung to allow that. On 6/4/2012 7:28 AM, Dario Bonazza wrote: Touchè. PESO - PAD - Power Drive - Print-a-Day-7
This is number 7 in the series Print-a-Day for 30 Days. This photo was posted shortly after the 2012 Power Drive competition. http://georges.posterous.com/power-drive-print-a-day-7 When I processed this photo I added a vignette to help the eye stay focused on the cars. I'm finding, when printing, the gradient in the print has a slightly different character than it does on the screen. I have not used a lot of different papers during this project, but I have a feeling that will also effect the look of the vignette's gradient. Again, if you're very critical about results, it looks as though there is no way around making test prints. gs George Sinos gsi...@gmail.com www.georgesphotos.net plus.georgesinos.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Some thoughts about a Sept announcement of a FF DSLR from Pentax
With older non CPU chipped (ie manual) lenses a higher end body, you can still use the aperture ring on a Nikon. DS On 4 June 2012 21:50, P. J. Alling webstertwenty...@gmail.com wrote: I believe that Canon removed the aperture ring from their lenses as a cost savings and have managed to convince photographers that this is more modern and that the lack of this feature is in fact a feature. Alling Sent: Friday, June 01, 2012 6:03 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Some thoughts about a Sept announcement of a FF DSLR from Pentax Not a lot of thoughts really. However if Pentax was really going to announce a FF K mount camera wouldn't the latest lens, the DA 50 f1.8 which is pretty much one of their 50mm designs going back to oh, I don't know the middle of the 20th century, and probably covers 24x36mm frames admirably, be designated a DFA lens? True it doesn't have an aperture ring, but it wouldn't be the first DFA lens to be released without one. In the event of a FF camera probably wiith a list price between $2500 and $3500 it wouldn't cannibalize many sales of the FA 50 f1.4 lens with that camera as the lens cost difference would be a fraction of the total package price. So either a.) Pentax marketing has their collective heads where the sun don't shine, or b.) there really isn't a FF camera that close in the pipeline. I'll not take any bets either way, since this is not necessarily an either or proposition. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Third Party Batteries
I am certain Auld Tymer Digital PDMLers would have had an over dose of this topic which is on some (20) World Class Photo Forums like Pentax, Photo Camel, DCRP, Shutter Talk, JJMehta etc. 95.70 % of the folks have said 3rd Party batteries are just as good, as long as you buy them from good sources like Amazon, Adorama, Battery Fly com, Energizer etc etc. They cost between $ 6 to 12 shipped vs the original for about $ 45. So the choice is yours. I have been using 3rd Party + Original Pentax Batteries on my K20D and K-5, and have found absolutely no difference. Being an electronic buff, a DIY and a master mechanic, I keep a track of the voltage when fully charged, half charged and discharged of 3rd Party as well as the Originals. All my (9) batteries are going strong even after over (3) years. You are just plain unlucky (Bad Karma) if one has exploded on you!!! After I played with the photos, it was a snap to import them into Lightroom to make a web gallery. The iPad is pretty fun. My only regret is not buying the 64 gig version, or at least the 32 gig. Well, guess I'll save up for the 4th or 5th generation version . http://www.caguila.com/swans/index.html Cheers, Christine -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

That's a really good race photo. Of course that stupid fence next to the road distracts, but it's really difficult to do much about it because there's not much you can do in terms of changing angle or pov or whatever; I'm guessing the fence is everywhere along the course. Lord knows I've got enough racing photos with those ugly barriers in them. ;-) All I could think of for the next next time is to maybe slow down the shutter speed to blur the back ground. Of course you might get more blur on the two wheels but that might not be so bad. ;-) http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2008/05/chris-at-cmwc-2005-new-york.html?m=0 Still, a very good photo. I'm finding, when printing, the gradient in the print has a slightly different character than it does on the screen. I have not used a lot of different papers during this project, but I have a feeling that will also effect the look of the vignette's gradient. Re: An example of timeless design and style
Well I wouldn't exactly call that a great design but it is certainly timeless. My dad had a 53 but it was a 4 door. It was on that car I performed my first oil change found out when they said XX qts of oil, they meant it. Nothing like foaming oil coming out of the breather. Nice capture, I like both renditions. I see more and more of HDR applied to older car images I really like most of them - to me it gives them a classy/artsy look. Now I expect you to give this comment the due respect it deserves. ;+} Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Don Guthrie shark50...@gmail.com Subject: An example of timeless design and style My 1st Car was a '53 Chevy. When I saw this chevy on the street last week I was glad I had my camera primed and loaded. Two versions - one BW straight out of the camera and the second a more stylized version. http://donspix.posterous.com/a-60-year-old-example-of-timeless-style-and-d Warning- There are two pictures (2 tiny icons) please look at both. One would be rejected by National Geo and the other they wouldn't like anyway. As always comments are read and given all due respect. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
