I always preferred FP4 over Plus-X, from memory because Plus-X in Microdol-X
was fine-grained but
slightly 'mushy', whereas FP4 in Acutol was slightly grainier but had better
contrast and much
better acutance (as you might expect).

I know there is some disagreement about this, but in my experience Ilford FP-4
Plus is comparable to
Kodak Plus X with a couple of exceptions. The important one being that FP-4
seems to look sharper,
oh yes, and it's also still manufactured. I used to buy FP-4 because it was
less expensive. They're
both old fashioned, well more or less, traditional films.

This place also sells a house film called Ultrafine Xtreme which is

Re: OT - Plus -X Film Available

2013-07-28 Thread Mark C
I think it is a matter a personal preference. At one time in the past I
bought a couple of pro-packs of FP4 and worked my way through them,
probably using D76 or and Rodinal, but I did not take a shine to it and
went back to Plus-X. I found the FP4 to have less grain than Plus-X, but
more than the T Grain films, and if grain concerned me I would use TMax
or Delta 100. If I wanted the organic results of old style film, I
preferred Plus-X or, in the right developer, Neopan SS. I bought another
brick of FP4 earlier this year as I have been casting about for a good
ISO-100 film, now that my stock of Neopan SS is used up. Again - I found
the FP4 to be OK but just lacking the snap that I am looking for. I
recognize those are subjective terms, but my decision is purely subject.

I still have not found a currently available 35mm ISO 100 film that I
really love. I am going to give the Kentmere 100 a try. Arista EDU seems
to be good and may be what I settle on. In 120 format I still have
substantial stocks of APX-100 and Plus-X.

Re: Cheap extension tubes and reverse lense adaptors (and other photo accessories)

2013-07-28 Thread Igor Roshchin

Boris,
Thanks for the followup on this with more information.
I am way behind on the new chineese reseller sites, and haven't
purchased anything from alibaba or anything of the kind yet.
However, I've seen gadgets made in China that are not available anywhere
else. (E.g. just recently, for my nephew, I bought an electronic
stethoscope. )

I vaguely remember seeing DX before, but didn't pay much attention to
it. I wouldn't go for quality things on this website, but for simple
accessories that you want to try/play with or to use infrequently, -
it might a reasonable source.

Over here it is known for being very slow on shipment, which happens

Larry,

I don't think schnitzel means chicken fried steak, rather it's a
cutlet (as in a portion of sliced meat breaded and served either
grilled or fried.)
Often, it's a veal or other lighter meat.

Thanks for reminding me Ken.

Yes, Boeing wanted to get out from under the Engineers and Machinists Unions,
who kept winning against Boeing in the negotiations over most anything.

S. Carolina (or wherever) offered Boeing a union-free facility and of course
many tax breaks. The Everett gangs won after a walkout that delayed the 787,
along with dozens of other snags that apparently are still occurring. Building
the future of aircraft design is tough.

The lens was the smc Pentax-A 50mm f1.4 that I've had since the early
80's. It seems to me there is lots more light coming into the good ole
manual than the DA 18-55.

focus faster I'd have had a lot more respectable shots..
But I like these three - 2 street shots, and one kitty.. (not Ashley

The lens was the smc Pentax-A 50mm f1.4 that I've had since the early
80's. It seems to me there is lots more light coming into the good ole

manual than the DA 18-55.

Two on-topic GESOs for a change.

Excellent and fun, as usual. Nos 3 and 6 are especially appealing.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc/13/07/;%29OX/index.html

Nos 13, 15 16. I like!

I also notice the wonderland bookshop kinokuniya now has a separate
shelf for Australian photography monographs, including some rather
hard to obtain self-published tomes. Kudos to the bookshop's taste.

Ah. Thanks for that - I'll check those out when next in the city.
Kinokuniya must go close to being the best bookshop in Sydney. The
coffee's not bad, either...

G'day all

Apologies for the naff title - couldn't think of anything catchy.

This is from our USA trip - taken in Santa Fe, which has to be one

way many homes have decorations on their external walls.

This faded ceramic pot caught my eye:

preferable.

Don't get the title but I'm not all that familiar with Magritte.

Like the photo, though.
