pentax point and shoot and a pink polaroid

2014-10-04 Thread Christine Aguila
Hi Everyone:

Had some camera spotting today. Check that old Pentax point and shoot the
pink Polaroid. I guess color cameras isn’t such a novel idea after all. Also,
Central Camera had a red Pentax Q—was it cute. First time I was able to play
with one! Very fun!

Odd. I use the full matrix metering on both the k-5 and k-3 when shooting
egrets, and I haven’t blown one out in recent years. Generally, white objects
will slightly underexpose because a dumb meter considers them neutral. I’ve
shot them both against a bright sky and against dark water and shrubs. No blow
outs. I don’t believe I used exposure comp on any of the shots. I do shoot RAW
and usually pull down highlights in conversion.

Re: PESO(s) I have but one Egret...

2014-10-04 Thread P.J. Alling
That's not CA that's sensor bloom. The lens itself exhibits almost no
CA. Supposedly CMOS sensors have done away with blooming but I see it
all the time in lens reviews, refereed to as CA, because well, CMOS
sensors did away with bloom, but CA is almost always two color red/blue,
bloom is purple or just plain white. Now I'm going into this because
I'm really tired of seeing obvious sensor bloom in images and having it
be miss identified as chromatic aberration, they are not the same
thing. CA is caused by a lens defect, bloom can be exacerbated by
having a high contrast lens with even a very good sensor. Neither of
those things is a defect. The issue of removing the sensor bloom is
another problem, I've never successfully been able to do that. If it's
there I just live with it.

It doesn't have a very dark background, so matrix worked fairly well. I'd guess
that
had you used spot metering on it's body, you would have gained the desired

Odd. I use the full matrix metering on both the k-5 and k-3 when shooting
egrets, and I haven’t blown one out in recent years. Generally, white
objects will slightly underexpose because a dumb meter considers them
neutral. I’ve shot them both against a bright sky and against dark water and
shrubs. No blow outs. I don’t believe I used exposure comp on any of the
shots. I do shoot RAW and usually pull down highlights in conversion.

2014-10-04 Thread Darren Addy
I'm all about learning new stuff, so I appreciated P.J.'s correction
(in the thread above). This led me to a little Google-Fu workout and I
thought I might share something that might be of interest to the
Photoshop users of the group. This little plug-in is free to try, but
only works on images up to 800x600. To use it on larger images, one
has to pay the 15 euro shareware fee:
http://flofilters.free.fr/

I have not used either the trial version or the full version yet, but
I thought I would pass the info along in case someone has experience
with it or would like to give it a shot. Cheap enough, if it does what
it says. It seems it has been recommended by a lot of people over the
years, but not mentioned much in recent years - so maybe there is a
better tools (or one that comes with post-processing software?)

I'm all ears...

Googling: b2evolution [your version number] vulnerability

would be my first guess. In some cases the vulnerability results in
your site being used to spam which ends up getting your site

My advice with backups is to never trust a hosting provider to do them for

A company I used to work for found that out; after that we set up our own
remote backup system which proved quite useful in the long run.

Attila's advice about the upgrade is good, maybe you can upgrade

I've been involved in difficult upgrades like that before - all I can say

PESO - In The Mudroom

2014-10-04 Thread Mark C

http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/in-the-mudroom

This used to be a true mudroom - buildt onto the exterior of the house,
no electricity except for the over head light, just bare tongue and
groove wood paneling on the walls. We spiffed it up a bit a couple of
years ago when we remodeled and it is not heated and integrated into the
kitched as additional storage space.

Taken with the IR converted K10d and Ricoh XR Rikenon 28mm f2.8 , though
there is Little IR effect here even with direct sunlight streaming in.

Comments always welcome!

GESO: Antarctic Planes

2014-10-04 Thread David Mann
The US Antarctic Programme had an open day today to show off their C-17
Globemaster which arrived down here a few days ago. Also present was an RNZAF
Hercules and an A319 (I don't know who owns that one).

The Globemaster took us about 10 minutes to get through as the flight deck was
optional (with about an hour wait). The Herc took us about 45 mins - we had no
option as everyone was going up front.

By the time we got to the A319 I couldn't be bothered waiting and the crew were
advising people they wouldn't get in before closing time anyway, so I just had
a look around the outside.

I only took a handful of photos and 5 made it through.
