GESO -- One spring day in Hammonasset.

2015-05-07 Thread P.J. Alling

As I warned, a GESO

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1604247/PESO/Hammonasset/index.html

Equipment: K-5II mostly with the SMC A*300mm f4.0 and smc F 1.7x AF
Adapter, a couple were shot with the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f2.8~=4.0
(Komine), I occasionally forgot to re key the focal length.

I used the opportunity to relearn how to build a web gallery with
Photoshop, I remember it being easier somehow...

As usual comments are welcome but may be totally ignored.

If it's larger than doves you usually see it might be the Eurasian

it seems there are several doves with a similar coloring and neck mark, so
it's not just a matter of local naming; based on location and the red eye,
it should be one of these two:

Streptopelia decaocto is what iBird Pro told me — Eurasian Collared Dove,
and the most widespread candidate:

S. risoria, Barbary Dove or Ringneck Dove is not on iBird's list, but
according to various sources it is a domesticated species, and it does look
similar; it is not as widespread as S. decaocto; some people think it was
domesticated from S. decaocto, but most think it came from the African S.
roseogrisea centuries ago; here's more from Pigeon Talk:

Zenaida macroura, the American mourning dove, is the one i see around my
house, and it is easy to distinguish because it lacks a collar

Great collection as usual! Hard ot pick a favorite from so many great
images but "Bleeding Heart" is really outstanding.

G'day all

Another great gallery, with more Spring offerings than Autumn. A nice
range of Spring flowers - I especially liked Mark's "Trillium" and
Ken's "Bleeding Heart" and I really like Dan's "Heart of the Bloom",
but I think my overall favourite this month is Matt's "Autumn Morning"
with sunlight filtering through light mist.

As usual, you'll find the gallery here:

(you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery
there).

Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not
infallible. So, if you made a submission and you don't see it in the
gallery, let me know.

Next up is 'The Lake'.

I thought aspens were mainly Colorado trees.

Simple background helps with the double's complexity.
