Ho hum. This beast uses Waterhouse style aperture plates. It's supposed to
come with a set of plain plates, a set of "specially designed" plates to produce
"deep, textured backgrounds rarely achieved in photography" and another set of
plates in heart, snowflake and other vomit-inducing shapes.

I have two sets of specially designed, one set of vomit and no plain. Bugger.
Overwhelming backgrounds r me. Message sent to Lomography but they probably
won't pick it up until tomorrow.

If I get time later on, I'll rattle a few frames off and post a zip file on
Dropbox or somewhere for people to peruse at full strength.

If its photographic capabilities live up to its fondling ones, it should be
stunning.

Dan,

K-1 Questions

2016-11-20 Thread jtainter
Every new Pentax camera has more features, larger menus, and more sub-menu
options, but the manual never gets any clearer. The biggest problem is the
index, which has an inscrutable approach to naming things that I have questions
about. I find Pentax's indices virtually useless for finding answers to my
questions.

So, can someone please help me with a couple of questions?

1. How do I turn off Auto ISO?

2. How do I turn off the focus beep?

(Most of my approach to new cameras is to turn defaults off.)

Thanks,

Joe

I think you turn of Auto ISO the same way as with a K-5 or K-3 hold down
the ISO button and change the ISO.

It's in the menu under Roadrunner ;-). No it's probably the same as the
K-7 thru K-3 too. Which if I remember correctly it's on one of the menu
pages under the wrench, labeled something really confusing like BEEP. I
don't have the K-5 in front of me, and I may have confused that with the
K20D but it's probably close to that.

Try searching for "sounds" instead. (Or just go to the first of the

K-1 Turning Off Auto ISO

As far as I can tell, the manual does not say how to turn off Auto ISO. I've

a professional-grade camera, there is no easy way to turn off a feature

In the Index on page 123 it lists:

ISO AUTO Setting .. 49
ISO Sensitivity ... 49

You set ISO AUTO by pressing the green button while holding down the ISO
button.

Turning the rear wheel while holding the ISO turns ISO AUTO back off and
resets the ISO Sensitivity to where-ever you leave off turning the wheel.

Index page 125 lists:

Sound Effects ... 28

That takes you to "Set-up Menus" where All of the sounds appear to be in
"wrench 1" where you can control the volume of the sounds & turn
individual sounds on & off.

Also lets you turn sounds on/off for Fx1 & Fx2 Buttons.

Which is exactly the way the K-5[II[s]] works. To set auto ISO the
K20D required a trip to the Fn ISO menu. Maybe the manual writers for
the K-1 assume that the only people who'd buy a K-1 at one time used a
K-7, K-5 or K-3, so they didn't need the information.

It's something I don't really think about. I go through all the menus with
every new camera -- I've owned all with the exception of the k-5 II-- and just

2016-11-20 Thread Alan C
