To me these design related issues speak to a much bigger issue than quality/reliability. They speak to a lack of knowledge of car design and the potential customers wants. Re: ISO invariance
If I remember correctly, there was a discussion on the list related to the color rendering in low light and ISO invariance. I don't rember all the arguments, but I have two factors in mind that may affect the colors. But first, - just in case: have you checked that both the temperature and the tint numbers (as seen in LR) are the same for both photos? 1. With the colors that have very low RGB numbers in one or two color channels, it is easy to imagine that small variations due to discretization play a noticable role in the outcome once amplified (i.e. amplification of the rounding error). 2. With the low levels in one or two color channels, you effectively compress the dynamic range at the lower end (which, I suspect might even yield bending, as someone on this thready has mentioned already). [I am too busy/lazy at the moment to think carefully about this second argument. Please, don't kick too hard... ;-) ] Actually, one other question: can the specifics of what LR does to the RAW file (what they refer to as "process version") affect the color outcome. I.e., if one used the process from the earlier versions of LR (e.g. LR 1.x) and from the latest, could the outcome be different? Igor On Fri, Jan 27, 2017 at 5:54 PM, Gonz wrote: Ok. Here is what I did. 1. take an image with ISO 1600 properly exposed. Use manual and set shutter and aperture for image result that takes up most of the histogram (avoid blowing highlights) 2. take a second image with same shutter and aperture but at ISO 100. I.e. 4 stops underexposed. 3. Import into lightroom, compensate +4 exposure on the underexposed ISO 100 image. My lightroom has a limit of +4, hence the selection of 100 and 1600 for ISO values. Images should look roughly the same if this methodology is right? Are the ISO values correct? 100 * 2^4 = 1600, or is this wrong? -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Sorry for your issues Dan, but its music to my ears as a retired Ford salaried worker You really should go back to Avis and demand a different vehicle - speak to the station manager and you should get your wish. Images should look roughly the same if this methodology is right? Are the ISO values correct? 100 * 2^4 = 1600, or is this wrong? It looks right to me. Before I had heard of ISO invariance, I sort of discovered it accidentally. When not shooting action, and when I don't want to bother chimping the histogram for every shot, or when I'm shooting wide dynamic range images I'll just bracket, generally three exposures +/- 2 or three stops. My preferred auto exposure mode is usually Tav. I noticed that when bracketing in Tav, after correcting my exposure in lightroom, I generally couldn't see much difference between the three shots. Do note that in the "over" shots I'd get a bit more clipping, and in the "under" shots, I'd sometimes get a bit more noise in the shadows. Also, there seem to be some nonlinearities in the way LR processes files, so they wouldn't always all come out exactly the same after processing, but yeah, modulo some channel clipping, they'd look pretty close. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. No images selected for The Book yet, and I'm pretty disappointed with 2016's output. Have a PUG pic but not posted yet. Got my submissions for the PDML Annual in reasonably early, even though 3 acceptable quality images represents WAY too large of a percentage of my work last year. Found something good for the February PUG, and better still, when I went to shoot it, everything actually seemed to work out for once. And this time, I'm not struggling against the deadline. I've already managed to get out to do some photography four times in January and it seems like every one of my outings has produced at least one image that's not complete crap. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. Thanks, John. I’ll probably be using the camera less than in the past. But I’d hate to give it up. It’s only a compact, but my experience of it is as a wonderful little camera. My only wish has been for a little more manual control. I get a little of that with the Fuji X-M1 I’ve just acquired. A bit larger but still a small camera. -- Eric Weir Decatur, GA USA eew...@bellsouth.net (I)t is important that awake people be awake... the darkness around us is deep. - William Stafford -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: ISO invariance
Your resulting exposure levels are not the same which is why you have a difference in color. If you put them side by side in lightroom and evened them out they should be identical. Interesting. I had no idea the k-5 was also iso invariant. On Fri, Jan 27, 2017 at 5:54 PM, Gonz wrote: > Ok.
