Pencil. If you numbered the "blocks" it could become a "painting by numbers"

I am not an artist: My abilities to draw a picture by hand are at the
level of a middle school or so. And most of the time I am too lazy to do
anything in Photoshop.

But occasionally I have an idea for a manipulation on the photo...
I think, this is somewhat reminiscent of a drawing. (What drawing
technique is this similar to? Pencil? Charcoal? Etching?):

Ups and downs

2017-02-01 Thread John

Asked my local pusher today to order a Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 15-30mm
f/2.8 ED SDM WR Lens. He said it would probably arrive next week.

THEN My computer's boot drive filled up, even though I try VERY hard not
to install or download much to it. I like to keep all my STUFF on my
second drive.

PITA to hook up the replacement drive, clone it & swap for the existing
drive. Not enough SATA power connections. Could have sworn I had a spare
SATA power cable for the modular power supply, but no, they were old
4-pin Molex, so I have to disconnect the DVD drive & use it's power cable.

And Micro$oft apparently had a BIG update hanging. That may be what
filled up my old drive.

But, it's done & I'm back in business.

It might not be Precision's fault, it could simply be a delayed effect
of being dropped. I doubt they opened up the lens to see if anything
else was wrong inside if they didn't have to.

Try Eric Hendrickson at pentaxs.com. I'm pretty hard on my equipment,
and he was able to bring both an A 24mm f2.8 which suffered a much more
severe drop than you describe and a 43mm limited that a couple of years
after a minor, for me at least, drop simply jammed at the same time
started falling apart, not to mention the Vivitar Series 1 70-210 he
adjusted for me pretty much as a favor since he doesn't usually work on
them. His prices are very reasonable, and I doubt that he'll charge
anything like Precision's rate.

This is an outtake from my shoot with Denisa Strakova, but despite
suboptimal framing I still like the shot, so it's a keeper. :)

Posting this on the topic of butt shots is perfectly topical and
humorous. Unfortunately, even beyond the framing, I don't think it
works all that well as a photograph. All of the action is going on at one
end of the alimentary canal, but the focus is on the other. Everything
else going on in the frame just distracts and detracts from her lovely
posterior.

Two strobes plus sunlight through (unseen) sheers behind me. One

Treed Baldy is less than crisp as a result of being shadowed.
A little surprised I'm posting him/her.

31Ltd wonkiness

2017-02-01 Thread Gonz
I dropped my camera from a couple of feet with my 31mm1.8Ltd on it a
couple of years back. (ugh). It bent the petal in the front enough to
show up in my K-5's pics as a slight darkening. So I sent it off to
precision camera and they "fixed" it, but now its exhibiting something
else. Sometimes it will not autofocus past about 5ft or so (aprox),
and if I try to do it manually, it has what feels like something
stopping it going past that point. But if you move the lens around,
usually vertically, you can hear something loose in there and then it
"fixes" itself. How hard is it to take one of these apart and take
care of whatever is rattling in there? I don't want to send it back
to precision as its a $300 round trip or so, and they won't answer my
emails about taking care of this since I suspect this has been there
all along since the last repair, but I never noticed it because I
don't use this lens enough.

Re: Asking for help once again

2017-02-01 Thread Boris Liberman
Peter, I am happy to report that I've downloaded, installed,
registered and upgraded my LR 6.x to the latest 6.8 version. With some
very minor hitches it appears to run properly.

So far I can report that it does some things differently (such as
creating a zipped, rather than plain version, catalog backup) and it
works a good deal faster with the Oly EM-1 files. That is, it really
uses the cache insofar that sometimes the zoom to 1:1 size is
instantaneous indeed - LR 5.7 was a good deal slower in this regard.

More LR time coming my way as I need to get at least basic
understanding of what new features it has compared to LR 5.7.

Many thanks!

Boris

GESO 2017 - 004-011 - GDG

2017-02-01 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
A small gallery of Polaroid shots from my walk the other day. Nothing gets me
going when I get back into shooting like a Polaroid. :-)

  Bird House: https://flic.kr/p/R99xxo
  Lamp: https://flic.kr/p/R99wLU
  Coffee Mug: https://flic.kr/p/R99wnN

That's three of the eight exposures in that pack. The others are in the album
"Walk 01 - 2017" at https://flic.kr/s/aHskN4fZnQ

enjoy!

Re: PESO - a grape snack

2017-02-01 Thread Bruce Walker
I've been finding that women appreciate this shot. More than would go
for the cliché "bikini babe" sort of image that appeals to most men.

I totally get the need to be circumspect about imagery in publically
viewable spaces though. HR must be placated. :)

I've got to clarify - it didn't offend my sensibilities, it's just that in
a shared-office environment I have to be much more circumspect about what I
splash across the big displays. Something about wanting to keep my job and

PESO/VESO: Charlie Young Sunset

2017-02-01 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Last night's sunset at Charley Young Beach, Maui:

The sunset covered 180 degrees nof the Western sky, so I tried to capture
it all in a video:
