nurses trained ay St Tommy's. Being a mere physio, Karin's never

OT: Anniversary

2017-09-04 Thread David Mann
Today's the 7th anniversary of the first of our big quakes and there have been
a couple of interesting articles recently about the ongoing effects.

First, one about the longer-term effects on kids. I suspect it's not just the
quakes themselves but also a reflection of the stress on their parents as they
wade through the troubles of insurance and repair/rebuild.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/96211829/four-in-five-christchurch-primary-schoolers-exhibit-ptsd-symptoms-study-finds

Secondly this article about some of the dodgy repairs that were made to houses.
It's quite risky buying a house in this city now so many people are opting to
build new.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11916129

It's not all doom & gloom though; the central city is starting to look a lot
better now with plenty of new buildings going up. Still a long way to go but
there's good progress being made.

Cheers,
Dave

thinking of another song, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square"?

Incidentally we carried on to visit the historic Clayton House where

OT Peso's York plow match

2017-09-04 Thread David J Brooks
I'm getting quite frustrated with the new and improved photo dot net.
I uploaded 4 photos from Saturdays plowing match and cannot for the
life of me figure out how to share the individual links, so i'm
posting this main page link the first 4 photos are the new ones.

https://www.photo.net/EquineSlr#//Sort-Newest/All-Categories/All-Time/Page-1

I click on the pictures and do not get a numbered link like i used to,
sometimes it allows me tto go to a specific gallery and sometimes i
have to scroll through everything. The old system was more than fine
for me. May not renew my membership next July

David:

I share your frustration. Try this:

Go to the page to which you have linked above.
Put the cursor over the thumbnail of the image you want to select.
In the lower left, you will see "view."
Clicking on view leads to a larger version of the selected image.
You can then copy and paste the URL from the navigation bar of your browser.

My fave, the Grackle. Ideal exposure
picked up a variety of tones.
Spider detail is special, also.

Very nice, Paul!

I'm sure you observe all sorts off limits, then ignore them at your whim.

OT: What to Watch

2017-09-04 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
From the NYT:

Elsa Dorfman in “The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography.” Fourth

Stream This Documentary About a Photographer With a Rare Camera

Monica Castillo
*‘The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography’*
*Where to watch:* Stream it on Netflix

.
*Save it to your Watchlist*

.
In the 1950s and ’60s, Elsa Dorfman picked up a camera and made a name for
herself by taking pictures of her famous friends, like Allen Ginsberg, Bob
Dylan and other members of the Village arts scene. Later, she switched to
large format photography, using a towering and rare Polaroid camera that
produced 20-by-24-inch portraits. They made her a local celebrity in
Cambridge, Mass.
This documentary from the director Errol Morris (“The Thin Blue Line
”)
juxtaposes interviews with Dorfman alongside her images — self-portraits,
candid photos from Beat Generation parties and unused photos of her
subjects, which she affectionately calls B-sides. The resulting movie is an
engaging portrait of an artist and a reminder of how everyone just wants to
keep pictures of the ones they love the most.
