I think it was the leaf distribution, the lighting, and the smoother concrete

Question re Xfif data from K3

2017-09-21 Thread Ken Waller
I'm converting a group of RAW captures I took with my K3 and used several
shutter modes - multiple exposure, time delay etc and am noticing the Exif
data doesn't reflect those different capture modes. Am I missing something?

I'm using Photoshop CS2.

Thanks for posting that.

I think something has to be clarified there. The called it
"the world’s first digital camera."
I suspect, it should be "a the world's first self-contained camera".

The famous picture (circa 1974) of Boyle and Smith, the inventors of CCD
(1969, Nobel Prize 2009), Smith and Boyle,

http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-photography-revolution-2015-4
pictures them with a digital camera.
(It probably didn't have "recording" portion, but you still call a CCTV camera
- a camera.)

BTW, the same inventors had a self-contained camera built too:
https://journals.aps.org/rmp/pdf/10.1103/RevModPhys.82.2307
(See Fig. 13)
Unfortunately, that article doesn't mention when they did that.

You might notice in this article a "picturephone". :-)

Cheers,

Igor

Re: OT Photo dot net email about accounts.

2017-09-21 Thread Ken Waller
Just got an email from the real photo dot net advising they are aware of the
bogus email and have taken efforts to stop it.

Among other things the email states -
"No credit card information is stored by photo.net so there is no way
photo.net could charge credit cards. All of our transactions are handled
with encypted tokens and handled by either PayPal or Stripe - again no
credit card information is stored at photo.net."

"What we know now, is that this is a phishing expedition that originates
from a domain registered in China (udeth.com) and hosted in Los Angeles
(sudjam.com)."

'We have been trying to contact the US based hosting company to let them
know this email is associated with their company, but beyond that we have
also reported this as a phishing email to the authorities."

Re: Attn: Virus from "photo.net": do NOT open attachments in messages from Photo.net

2017-09-21 Thread Igor PDML-StR

That's correct.

As for "non-executable" extensions, there is still a danger there.
Thanks to Microsoft, the default setting in Windows is to masquerade
the "known extensions". This is frequently used by the perpetrators: a
file has two extensions, e.g. file.doc.js or file.doc.exe

So, it would appear as "file.doc" in that case.

(I always disable that extension hiding on all Windows systems I set up.)

BTW, in this specific case, the attachment in question is called
terms_and_conditions_doc.zip, and the file inside is
terms_and_conditions_doc.js

The interesting thing is that clamav doesn't indentify any virus in this
.js file.
