Do you still have the original screen?  If you don't then somehow you're
original screen somehow got sealed into a plastic sleeve. Which seems to
be decidedly odd and unlikely.  But as Sherlock Holmes is said to have
said, when all other facts have been eliminated those remaining no mater
how unlikely have to be the truth...

Re: OT: WARNING Beware Firefox 58.0.1

2018-02-18 Thread Paul Sorenson
Sometimes things get botched up doing upgrades over existing
installations.  Have you tried downloading the install files for
Firefox, uninstalling Firefox from your machine and doing a clean
install?  It would seem the problem exists on your machine somewhere
since so many of the rest of us are having no problems.

If the problem persists after a clean install it would seem you have
three more choices:

 * start eliminating what you consider potential conflicts (plug-ins,
etc) one by one until the problem is solved
 * move to another browser that has no conflicts
 * continue with Firefox and spike your blood pressure every time you
   use it :-)

Re: Adenium spp.

Alan,

It's interesting, - at first, after seeing the flowers, I thought I had
seen it in Europe and in the US, but then, looking at the Wikipedia page

for this plant, - I realized that the stem portion of the plant is
rather different, really surviving-in-desert-capable one.

What I had thought of - was a shrub-type or maybe low-tree type of a
plant. I am guessing it could be either a completely different one, or
something that is a hybrid.

The plant looks nice in the photo, but the background is somewhat
distracting. I would have tried to blur it by limiting the DOF by using a
wide-open aperture - f/4 for your lens (you've used f/8).

Cheers,

Igor

Well this sux.

2018-02-18 Thread P. J. Alling
It seems that when I'm not actually breaking my equipment, it's breaking
itself.

I was using the AF200T with my digital cameras, and been pretty happy
with the results.  Sure it's not P-TTL, but as far as it goes, having
it's own sensor, the fact that it actually sets the recommended f stop
and shutter speed when the camera is in program mode with an A class  or
later lens, was convenient.

It also worked well with K/M lenses though it obviously loses even the
small amount of automation supported with modern digital interface cameras.

Within it's limited parameters it gave good exposures, is compact, and
now it's broken.  It just stopped firing, either when mounted to the
camera or when the test button is pressed.  Based on that I'm pretty
sure that I know what's wrong, it has a blown secondary capacitor.

It would probably be an easy fix, if I had a schematic, but finding the
part without one wouldn't be cost effective, let alone the effort
involved, for a flash I could probably replace for $10.   Worse it would
probably cost more than that to order the capacitor.

Sometimes I miss Radio Shack.

Re: K1-II spec leaked, seems like minor improvements only

2018-02-18 Thread John

What range do you need to cover?

My 300/2.8 works well with the K-1.

Even though there's no stretch of the imagination that would let me say
I NEED one, I wish I could find an FA 600/4 that I could *AFFORD*.

The limited 77/1.8 and the A 100/2.8 Macro do pretty good for portraiture.

On 2/17/2018 19:56, Rob Studdert wrote:

The K1 to me is an ideal portrait/landscape camera, not so great for

zooms at launch was admirable but they seem a miss match for the body.

A couple of high quality portable primes (the 15-30 is a great lens, I
have the Tamron version but it's huge and weighty) to satisfy
traditional landscape and portrait shooters should have at least
closely followed the launch of the three f2.8 zoom lenses IMO.

I needed a new solution to cover my events shooting with better speed
and low light performance (was previously using K3/K3/K5iis
combination) but I knew that the K1 buffer would limit its usefulness
to me so I finally jumped ship. I would have stuck around for another
5 plus years on top of my 30 or so if they had produced a K3/ii
replacement in a timely fashion.

Re: Mystery focusing screen

2018-02-18 Thread John
That's kind of what I was thinking. If you sent the camera off to have
the Katzeye screen installed, the installer may have shrink wrapped the
original to protect it before returning it with the camera.

Do you still have the original screen?  If you don't then somehow you're

said, when all other facts have been eliminated those remaining no mater

Anyone know which it would be?

Could it be the original focusing screen the Katzeye screen replaced?

That’s what I First thought, but it’s in a sealed plastic sleeve. Never been

Re: OT: WARNING Beware Firefox 58.0.2

2018-02-18 Thread John

No problem after a clean install BACK to Firefox 58.0.1 ...

Until for some reason it decided to install 58.0.2 again even though I
have the option set to NOT EVEN CHECK FOR UPDATES (I got tired of the
NAG popup) and definitely *NOT* to automatically install updates.

That's a true WTF? ??

Uninstalled and did another CLEAN install for 58.0.1. Have to see what
happens next.

If the problem persists after a clean install it would seem you have
three more choices:

   * start eliminating what you consider potential conflicts (plug-ins,
etc) one by one until the problem is solved
   * move to another browser that has no conflicts
   * continue with Firefox and spike your blood pressure every time you

No, I never got that response browsing ANY site until I installed the
"upgrade" to 58.0.2 and then I got that response with EVERY site.

Unless you mean changing my home page to a different non-anonymizing

The noise only seems to show up on the OOF background. Don't know what
you can do about the Cardinal, but the little Woodpecker you might be
able to apply a Gaussian Blur to the green parts on either side of the
tree and effectively hide the noise.

You can get an AF200T on eBay for $10-$20. Or upgrade to an AF280T for
$20-$40.

I like the AF280T for the tilt/swivel head, although currently I mainly
use it mounted on an IR slave for a background light.

it's own sensor, the fact that it actually sets the recommended f stop
and shutter speed when the camera is in program mode with an A class  or
later lens, was convenient.

I know that feeling. I grew up when you could take something in to be

You might be surprised about that. I recently bought 100 transistors for less
