Re: 3rd place
Honestly, I don't remember the name, I would have to look at a map. But its one of the ones off the curvy highway there, you have to park, cross the road and go down a kind of a steep drop then there are a series of very nice waterfalls along the way. Quite peaceful and visually stunning there. RE: This is EFFED-UP!
I have no idea why you have had problems with Outlook under W7 (and later versions). I've used it with every version of Windows except 8.x: I suspect you may not have allowed upgrades to happen when required, as I know many people do not. John in Brisbane -Original Message- From: PDML On Behalf Of John Sessoms Sent: Thursday, 28 June 2018 12:02 AM To: pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: This is EFFED-UP! Can't speak for anyone else, but AFAIK Outlook is only available as part of Micro$oft Office; the latest version of which doesn't work with Windoze7. Down-level versions that do work with Windoze7 are not available and are not supported. After the hell I went through with Windoze10, I'm not inclined to pay Micro$oft for software that I have to learn all over again, especially when experience tells me that even if I could get it to work, it won't let me do things the way I want to do them. I've been using the mail client from Netscape and its descendants (aka Thunderbird) since 1994. Thunderbird works just fine. The problems are all with the email providers, not with the software I use to send & receive email. Right now, Yahoo is the least problematic email provider I can use with PDML. I would use it exclusively if I could figure how out to get it to echo my own submissions to the list back to my Yahoo inbox so messages would thread properly. And *NOT* Gmail either. Google is already far too intrusive. I'd ditch Google and Google+ in a heartbeat if could find a way to do it without losing YouTube. I might as well sell my soul to fakebook and be done with it. Re: peso blue wings
That is a lovely and well-composed image, Dave. I have visited a half dozen butterfly observatories in the US, Canada, and Europe, and they are always enjoyable and fascinating. As you noted, even in those confined areas, good photographs are not easy to obtain, because of the wing positions at rest and the erratic patterns of flight. Good work, and good luck to have such a "heads up" from the staff. Re: This is EFFED-UP!
Re: PESO: Prickly Pear
Thanks, Brian, Allen, and Paul! It is interesting to hear that it can be a real disaster when it spreads in the wild. It is indeed an aggressive species, and spreads quickly. In my yard, I must cut it back significantly each year after it blooms, and I have to watch where it germinates spontaneously. It is, however, one of the flowering plants that is ABSOLUTELY deer proof, not merely deer resistant. 50 years ago, at survival school in California, we learned to eat the flesh of the prickly pear, along with other treats such as dandelions and wild onions. I would recommend it only as an alternative to starving.
